Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Titan’s Instinct

A few more days passed.

"I am so bored."

Daniel lay sprawled across the couch and complained to Quill.

"Yeah," Quill nodded in agreement.

"If I had known, I really wouldn’t have obliterated that allied fleet last time. Now nobody’s even trying to hunt us anymore!"

Daniel grumbled, "It’s all your fault. You just had to insist that we wouldn’t be able escape and begged me to act."

"And now look at this. Nobody wants to play with us anymore!"

Daniel dumped the blame squarely on Quill’s head. Quill just rolled his eyes but didn’t argue.

He was currently relying on Daniel to stay alive, so he couldn’t be bothered to argue.

Instead, he grumbled inwardly:

’Wait, wasn’t it you who got excited the moment you saw that huge fleet, charged in to provoke them, and ended up blowing the whole thing apart? And now you’re blaming me?’

Without Daniel, Quill had nowhere to go.

With a staggering two billion credit bounty on his head, he sometimes felt tempted to turn himself in just to cash it.

Let alone everyone else.

Even Yondu, who always acted like he couldn’t stand him but secretly treated him like a son, now looked at Quill with dollar signs in his eyes.

When Yondu’s men saw Quill in the past, they wanted nothing more than to kill him on the spot. Now, they practically wanted to pounce on him just to trade his body for cold, hard cash.

Quill was basically a walking treasure chest, and a completely unguarded one at that. Anyone who crossed paths with him immediately wanted a piece of him.

"So, what do we do now?" Quill asked. "We’ve gone a whole week without anything to do. It just feels like something’s missing."

Normally, the two of them caused a minor incident every three days and something major every week. Their lives had always been thrilling, but now that things had suddenly gone quiet, they both felt strangely uncomfortable.

"How about we go to Hala?" Quill suggested out of nowhere.

"What do you think about going to Hala to collect protection money? That’s the Kree homeworld. The Kree Empire is one of the three great galactic empires. Going over there to mess with them... just thinking about it gets my adrenaline pumping."

Having spent so much time alongside Daniel, Quill’s courage had grown to astronomical proportions.

Originally, the two of them only provoked small to medium scale civilizations. Now, he was actually suggesting they go after the Kree Empire itself.

"No thanks. That’s boring. Hala was one of the first places I visited after leaving Earth. I was even the one who destroyed the Supreme Intelligence."

Daniel remarked casually, tossing a piece of jerky into his mouth.

"No wonder the Kree have gone completely crazy these past few years. So, it was your fault, "Quill said, a look of sudden realization dawning on his face.

"If we can’t go to Hala, then where should we go?"

"I don’t know." Daniel replied impatiently.

"You’d better come up with a plan quickly. You’re a natural troublemaker, and you’re always full of those crazy wicked ideas.

There’s a reason you’re worth two billion in bounty money. Most of the bad things we’ve done were your ideas."

"If you can’t think of anything, don’t bother following me anymore. We’ll part ways right here."

Daniel had no intention of actually abandoning Quill. He was just trying to scare him.

It had become his favorite threat recently, and it worked every time. Whenever he used it, Quill somehow managed to come up with another brilliant, or terrible, idea.

"But I really can’t think of anything!" Quill looked like he was about to cry.

"I don’t care. I’m going out for a workout. By the time I get back, I expect to have our next destination locked in. Otherwise... heh."

After delivering the threat, Daniel slipped out of the ship. Lately, he’d become obsessed with working out.

Exercise brought him pure joy. Every time he went out to move around, he would come back feeling completely refreshed and clear-headed.

The heaviest gym equipment in the universe was utterly useless to him. At most, those weights scaled to around a hundred tons, which felt like holding a toothpick in his hands, absolutely zero sensation.

Therefore, Daniel’s preferred method of working out was pushing planets around.

He would seek out a completely uninhabited star system and amuse himself by pushing the planets around. It was surprisingly entertaining.

Furthermore, he could treat himself to a massive display of fireworks every single time.

The only downside was that after he finished exercising, the entire planetary system would be left in complete chaos. Sooner or later, every one of those systems was doomed.

Daniel simply sped up the process. He’d kick one planet, shove another, and when the two collided, the resulting explosion was an incredible sight.

Ever since Daniel discovered the joy of exercise, he’d already "worked out" hundreds of star systems into ruin.

.......

Once he was done with his workout, Daniel made his way back to the ship.

The moment Quill saw Daniel looking at him, he hurriedly spoke, "I’ve got it. I know exactly where we’re going next!"

"Oh? Where?" Daniel asked, suddenly interested.

Scaring Quill really paid off. Over the past five years, the two of them had already tried almost every form of entertainment imaginable, yet Quill had somehow managed to come up with something new.

"We’re going to Sakaar," Quill declared.

"The Grandmaster runs a massive gladiatorial arena over there."

"An arena?" Daniel questioned.

"Yeah, and every single day features real, live hand to hand fights. The word around the cosmic street is that it’s an incredible show," Quill said excitedly.

"Sounds interesting enough. Then Sakaar it is."

Daniel immediately approved the idea.

"Ultron, set course for Sakaar."

Before Daniel could even respond, Quill took the initiative and ordered Ultron to act.

"Understood, Mr. Quill." The spaceship fired up its engines.

.......

"Initiating the thirtieth consecutive jump. Countdown commencing: ten, nine..."

Ultron’s voice echoed through the cabin.

"I can’t... I can’t do this anymore! Stop jumping!"

Quill waved his hands desperately, his face turning pale as he looked completely drained.

"I can’t take this anymore!"

"You’re the one who wanted to go to Sakaar."

Daniel grinned mischievously from the side.

"Yeah, but I didn’t check the coordinates first. It turns out we have to cross three entire galaxies. Ultron is way too ruthless. After that many jumps in a row, how is my fragile body supposed to survive?"

"My apologies, Mr. Quill," Ultron offered an immediate apology.

"Fine, we’ll take one day off. You’re such a weakling. This is exactly why I keep telling you to work out with me. Look at you... you’re already starting to grow a belly," Daniel said looking at Quill with obvious disdain.

"If I worked out with you, I’d probably end up dead even faster." Quill shot back irritably.

"Ultron, scan for a nearby inhabited planet so our Star Lord here can get some rest," Daniel teased.

"Yes, Mr. Danvers."

An hour later, the ship entered the atmosphere of a planet called Yaka.

.......

Planet Yaka.

Yaka was home to the Yaka people, a deeply peaceful race. They lived in complete isolation from the rest of the universe, with almost no contact with outsiders. Their cities were built harmoniously within vast, ancient forests.

Under normal circumstances, the Yaka enjoyed a simple and peaceful way of life. They rose with the sun, worked throughout the day, and returned home at dusk to rest.

Today, however, this peaceful world was engulfed in the smoke of war. Thick clouds of smoke rose from the cities as terrified Yaka citizens desperately fled through the streets and alleyways.

Invaders had arrived.

"Do not resist! Resistance will only lead to more unnecessary casualties!"

"We’ve come to help you."

"For the sake of balance in the universe, our lord Thanos has taken it upon himself to restore order. He has come here to save you."

"Everyone, line up!"

"Your planet has become overburdened, so it needs... appropriate adjustment!"

Chitauri soldiers raised their energy weapons, forcing the Yaka citizens into large groups and herding them through the streets.

"My lord, everything is ready. We only await your command," a Chitauri commander said, bowing deeply before the towering figure.

The man stood nearly three meters tall, with distinctive purple skin and a massive frame covered in heavy battle armor.

"Mm.... then you may begi..."

Just as the man was about to give the order, he suddenly looked up toward the sky.

The kneeling Chitauri waited for the command, but after several moments of silence, he cautiously raised his head.

He saw his lord staring into the sky, with an unusually grim expression.

The purple-skinned warlord silently lowered the helmet over his head and tightened his grip on the massive double-bladed sword buried deep in the ground beside him. He then quietly muttered to himself.

"A very powerful being... has arrived..."
