Chapter 340 - 340: How Are We Supposed to Explain This?

The people nearby couldn't help muttering among themselves, utterly speechless at what had happened.

Ultron had no choice but to return to headquarters first.

However, when Dotilt and Ultron finally returned with the massive Skrull force, they were stunned by what they saw.

The entire place had practically been reduced to ruins.

Everyone was shocked by the sheer power that had devastated the base!

"Karl was here?"

Karl's strength was enough to make them despair.

He was far more dangerous than they had predicted.

Everything had turned out even worse than they had imagined!

"He escaped right in front of us! How are we supposed to explain this?"

"The target was standing right there, and you were still busy throwing your weight around!"

"If you had that much power, why didn't you use it against the enemy?"

"Why did you have to take your anger out on us?"

"I never imagined someone could behave this badly!"

Karl had escaped with everyone, while the Skrulls hadn't managed to catch so much as a single hair from their heads.

How could humiliation like this possibly disappear so easily?

Everyone could only feel increasingly helpless.

"Just look at what things have come to."

"Regretting it now isn't going to accomplish anything."

"All we can do is deal with the consequences."

"Ultron really knows how to show off. If he had that much strength, why didn't he use it against Karl and Eric O'Grady?"

"Why attack his own allies instead?"

"It's disgraceful."

The Skrulls below whispered among themselves.

Ultron naturally heard every word.

His expression remained grim.

How had Eric managed to escape so quickly?

Only now did Ultron finally realize that the entire thing had been a trap.

"Enough!"

Although everyone was deeply dissatisfied with Ultron, the strange power he possessed still made them wary.

None of them dared provoke him too openly.

Meanwhile, Karl knew perfectly well how close the timing had been.

If they had escaped even a little later, they might have been caught in the middle of their operation.

Ultron's speed and power were far beyond what they had expected and absolutely could not be underestimated.

"Good thing we got out of there quickly."

"Otherwise, that power could have caused us serious trouble!"

"Ultron's strength has clearly advanced beyond what we predicted."

"Looks like he's been working closely with the Skrulls to achieve these upgrades."

Even Iron Man couldn't help being surprised.

Back at headquarters, everything had descended into chaos.

They had failed to capture either Karl or Eric O'Grady.

Their entire base had been wrecked.

Dotilt still had injuries on her face, but she didn't even have time to complain to Tothwanwell about what Ultron had done.

"Karl was definitely here!"

"No one else could have destroyed our base with this kind of power!"

"From the moment he leaked information about the ultimate weapon to the moment Eric O'Grady appeared, every single part of this was a trap!"

"No wonder Eric refused to attack no matter what we said to provoke him."

"No matter how badly we insulted him, he refused to leave that protective barrier."

"So this was what they had planned all along…"

The more Dotilt thought about it, the angrier she became.

Then she saw Ultron standing nearby with his arms folded, acting as though none of this had anything to do with him.

Her anger immediately flared.

She pointed at him, but made sure to keep plenty of distance between them.

After the beating she had already taken, she had no desire to get within reach of his fists again.

"This is all your fault!"

"We clearly had a chance to capture Eric O'Grady!"

"Even if we had only managed to take the belt from him and obtain the ultimate weapon, our efforts wouldn't have been completely wasted!"

"But look at what happened!"

"We didn't get the belt, and you even turned that terrifying power against me!"

"Just look at my face!"

"You did this!"

"Eric O'Grady was standing right in front of you. You couldn't break through his defenses, so instead you took your anger out on us!"

"What kind of logic is that?"

"No reasonable person behaves like this!"

Anger burned inside Dotilt.

Murmurs began spreading throughout the Skrull ranks.

Almost all of them seemed to be expressing the same contempt for Ultron.

Tothwanwell felt as though the situation in front of him had already become complicated enough.

"Enough!"

The moment Tothwanwell roared, everyone below immediately fell silent.

He knew perfectly well that Ultron was violent, arrogant, and possessed a dangerous power that they could not fully control.

That power itself was also a threat to the Skrulls!

But right now, their base had been destroyed.

The starship had been taken away by their enemies.

"Enough. I know our current situation is far worse than we expected."

"But we cannot allow personal grievances to destroy the cooperation we've built over all this time!"

"This entire incident caught us off guard."

"Not only did all of you fail to notice what they were planning—even I failed to take the danger seriously enough."

"This situation is simply…"

Tothwanwell couldn't even find a suitable word to describe it.

Looking at the ruins around him, he knew they would need time to rebuild and prepare themselves again.

So what if the enemy had rescued the real superheroes?

It wouldn't change anything!

"Do they really think rescuing those useless captives will be enough to reverse the situation?"

"They're dreaming!"

"I already placed the DNA samples under layer after layer of protection!"

"Even though the base has been destroyed, the DNA itself hasn't been affected at all."

"As long as we use it properly, everything can still be brought back under control."

Tothwanwell slammed a hand against the table.

The entire room immediately fell silent.

Dotilt could only retreat to the rear.

Tothwanwell slowly walked over to Ultron and extended his hand, signaling that their cooperation should continue.

Ultron gave him a contemptuous look before reluctantly shaking it.

If he didn't need the Skrulls to ensure that he could withdraw safely and continue pursuing his own goals, Ultron would never have wanted to associate with them in the first place.

In Ultron's eyes, the Skrulls were the truly inferior life-forms.

They lacked a sufficiently intelligent mind of their own and thought only about copying the abilities of others.

That was precisely what Ultron despised most about them.

He believed that with his own superior intelligence, everything would only continue to improve.

"Look at that contemptuous expression of his!"

"Who does he think he's looking down on?"

"If we hadn't supported him, does he really think he could have made it this far?"

"In his dreams!"

"Now that he's gotten what he wanted from us, he thinks he can simply turn against us?"

"It won't be that easy!"

"If we don't make him pay for this, none of us will accept it!"

The Skrulls' eyes filled with increasingly vicious hostility.

Meanwhile, Karl had successfully brought the starship back with them.

Now came the next problem.

They had to figure out how to open it.

The massive starship had been brought to a secluded lakeside cabin and carefully set down nearby.

For the time being, this was their hiding place.

"Don't worry."

"This place has an extremely powerful security and concealment system."

"No GPS signal or other positioning system can locate us here."

"To the outside world, this place might as well not exist."

Eric O'Grady had already walked several circles around the entire starship.

All he could see was its incredibly hard outer shell.

There wasn't even a scratch on it.

Eric lightly touched the hull.

There was none of the electrical shock or mysterious energy response he had expected.

Inside the starship, however, the imprisoned superheroes seemed to sense the slight vibration.

They immediately began pounding against the inner wall of the vessel.
