Chapter 832: True Adamantium
Chapter 832: Chapter 832: True Adamantium
As for the research data on mutants, Wild Boar copied the electronic files and took them with him. For the paper documents, he only photographed some of them. There simply wasn’t enough time to photograph the enormous amount of physical material in its entirety.
None of the research files were destroyed. They were being left for Professor X, to help clear the mutants of their alleged crimes and restore them to the role of victims.
Looking at the horrifying photographs in the files, along with the descriptions of the cruel and inhumane experiments, any politician with a functioning brain would want to keep this information buried.
That was the leverage Professor X could hold in his hands.
The problem was that once this leverage was played, the X-Men would effectively be breaking with the authorities.
They might still smile, shake hands, and pose for photographs in public, putting on a harmonious show for reporters. But if they didn’t openly turn against each other and simply stopped having anything to do with one another in private, that would already be an extraordinarily graceful outcome.
After all, everything documented in those files had been done by the U.S. military.
This wasn’t like after World War II, when the United States absorbed the spoils of war and experienced a massive leap in medical technology while all the blame was conveniently placed on Japan’s Unit 731.
Perhaps under Professor X’s leadership, the X-Men would once again put the greater good first and compromise with the authorities.
But how those mutants chose to respond had nothing to do with Wild Boar.
He was simply handing the information over.
All the surveillance footage inside the base, however, was destroyed, along with the equipment itself.
Whether it was the old-fashioned tape-based systems or newer digital cameras, there wasn’t a surveillance system in the entire base that could escape Wild Boar’s scrutiny.
That said, only footage related to today’s events was destroyed—the footage that might have captured Wild Boar or the distorted image of Aetos armor.
Surveillance footage from other periods could serve as evidence of the persecution of mutants. Wild Boar wasn’t kind enough to help the U.S. military destroy that evidence as well.
Although there had been plenty of eyewitnesses, surveillance footage was material that could be replayed and analyzed.
In the hands of intelligence personnel skilled at analysis, that would be far more dangerous than simply allowing every eyewitness in the base to survive.
At the very least, information about the armor, along with Aetos armor concealed within its distortion field, might end up exposed under the scrutiny of those professionals.
The reason Wild Boar had suddenly decided to rob the Alkali Lake facility before leaving was, of course, the true Adamantium that had the potential to enhance Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike’s abilities by more than a single level!
Unlike Proto-Adamantium, which had been accidentally created and ultimately used to make Captain America’s shield, True Adamantium was a mature alloy with an established manufacturing process and precise formula.
It incorporated alien metals, with vibranium and iron as its primary components.
The problem was that the formula was divided among members of the U.S. leadership and protected as the highest-level secret. Stealing it was extraordinarily difficult.
With Henry’s resources, he didn’t even know who possessed the different parts of the formula, let alone how to steal them.
But the original form of True Adamantium was stored inside this very facility.
It had to be kept at a temperature of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit in order to remain in its malleable liquid state.
Once it cooled, it would permanently solidify within eight minutes. Unless it was subjected to a precise molecular rearrangement device, its shape could no longer be altered.
Solidified Adamantium was also highly resistant to heat, meaning that simply heating it again could not return it to a malleable liquid state.
Precisely because its storage requirements were so difficult, the equipment and the original liquid form of True Adamantium had been kept at the Alkali Lake facility, where the Weapon X program was operated.
He hadn’t managed to obtain the formula, but taking a vat of True Adamantium home wasn’t bad either.
Perhaps with the raw material in hand, he could reverse-engineer the alloy’s composition.
This wasn’t some inferior version of Adamantium.
The only way to destroy it was to attack it while it was at extremely high temperatures using a weapon made of another piece of True Adamantium.
The biggest difficulty now was figuring out how to transport the liquid True Adamantium while keeping it at 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Wild Boar and Aetos armor arrived together at the room where Wolverine had originally undergone his transformation.
As a powerful mutant who had lost his memories and spent years searching for his past, Wild Boar had no intention of destroying this crucial location in Wolverine’s history so thoroughly that even Wolverine himself wouldn’t recognize it.
So the transformation tank and the needle used to inject True Adamantium remained intact.
What Wild Boar had his eye on was the tank of liquid metal beside it, bubbling and churning like boiling water.
Maintaining a temperature of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, or approximately 815.56 degrees Celsius, naturally wasn’t accomplished here by burning wood or coal.
Instead, electric heaters were used, consuming electricity.
This meant that even if the facility was temporarily shut down, as long as its power supply remained active, the Adamantium wouldn’t harden. There was no need for personnel to constantly replenish fuel.
So if he could maintain the heating tank’s power supply, he should be able to move the entire vat of liquid True Adamantium without allowing the troublesome alloy to cool and solidify along the way.
After walking around the heating tank and inspecting it, Wild Boar decided that his idea was feasible.
The heating tank and its delivery pipes themselves weren’t particularly sophisticated, and the secret of the alloy’s formula wasn’t stored here.
After confirming that the extremely hot liquid metal in the tank could be transported, Wild Boar began preparing for the move.
The first priority was naturally modifying the heating tank, because the tank itself had never been designed to transport an entire vat of liquid metal.
Next, he had to replace its power source with a portable battery.
Every suit of armor had spare batteries. All he needed to do was take out the spare battery from Wild Boar armor and connect it.
That wasn’t particularly difficult.
The most important thing was to put a lid on it!
Otherwise, the liquid metal might splash out during transport.
Once everything was ready, Wild Boar armor hoisted the heating tank onto his shoulder and left the Alkali Lake dam through the spillway.
The U.S. soldiers, already terrified by the fight and with their commander dead, didn’t have a single person step forward to stop him.
The soldiers knocked unconscious by the anesthetic hadn’t woken up yet, while not a single soldier who had directly confronted Wild Boar armor had escaped with only minor injuries.
Wild Boar’s standard wasn’t simply to knock people unconscious.
He deprived them of their ability to fight.
If emergency treatment wasn’t administered properly, bleeding to death was entirely possible.
So the U.S. military, who had no shame in surrendering, had no intention of trying to fight an enemy they couldn’t afford to provoke under these circumstances.
The only reason no one had raised a white flag was that the other side hadn’t actually asked them whether they surrendered.
When Wild Boar armor and Aetos armor walked out of the dam together, with Wild Boar carrying the heating tank, Minotaur and Bonnie had already arrived ahead of them and were waiting for the two to emerge.
Gilgamesh looked at Wild Boar carrying his spoils without much concern.
"How are you planning to transport that thing back?"
The super-ejection acceleration system didn’t provide any biological force-field protection.
Unless the object was properly secured to the armor and made into an integrated whole, it would simply be destroyed by the tremendous acceleration during launch.
Gilgamesh had some experience with this himself.
He had once tried to use the armor’s convenient mobility to bring some things back from his own treasure hoard.
The result had been a pile of shattered junk.
Fortunately, he had listened to Thena and tested the method with some unimportant items first, which allowed him to discover that the method simply didn’t work.
