Silas Hawthorne looked at her and said, “Are you staying at the hospital tonight, or coming home with me?”

Stella Shields gazed at him and said, “I think I’ll stay at the hospital.”

Hearing her words, Silas Hawthorne chuckled. “Alright, then.”

He said, “Call me if you need anything.”

He didn’t try to force her to go home with him.

With that, he walked out.

Seeing him leave so decisively, Stella Shields lay back on the bed and breathed a sigh of relief.

‘I thought Silas Hawthorne was going to give me a hard time!’

‘But instead…’

‘He just left? Just like that?’

‘Maybe he’s not as scary as I thought!’

…

When Anne Sutton got off work, she stopped by to check on Stella Shields.

She was lying in her hospital bed, eating something.

Anne Sutton asked, “Have you eaten?”

Stella Shields nodded. “Mhm. Silas Hawthorne was just here. He brought me dinner.”

“Where is he now?”

“I said I wanted to stay at the hospital for another night, so he went home.”

“…” Anne Sutton looked at Stella Shields. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”

“Did you talk to Auntie Linden for me?” Stella Shields asked. “About me wanting to stay at the Linden Family’s home for a couple of days.”

Anne Sutton said, “No, she’s busy with work.”

“Why didn’t you ask her?” Stella Shields demanded.

Anne Sutton looked at her and said, “She doesn’t want to see you.”

Stella Shields stared at Anne Sutton. “She liked me a lot before you showed up.”

“And isn’t that your own doing?” Anne Sutton retorted. “Don’t you dare try to pin the blame on me. That won’t work on me.”

Stella Shields said, “If Silas Hawthorne ends up killing me one day, you’ll regret this.”

“…” Anne Sutton was speechless at her words. “What does that have to do with me? You’re going to blame that on me, too?”

‘Does she think I’m some kind of scapegoat?’

Stella Shields looked at Anne Sutton and asked, “Are you getting off work?”

“Mhm.” Anne Sutton glanced at the time. “Just focus on getting better. I’m leaving.”

…

After leaving the hospital, she first stopped by her mother’s shop to pick up some kimchi Mrs. Sutton had made for her before returning to the Linden Family home.

Nathan Fawcett was helping the two children with their homework.

‘He certainly has a lot of energy.’

Seeing Anne Sutton walk in carrying something, he said, “You’re back.”

Anne Sutton took the kimchi into the kitchen. “I went to my mom’s place and picked up some food.”

Nathan Fawcett walked over. “I want some too.”

Anne Sutton glanced at the man, picked up a pair of chopsticks, and gave him a piece to try. “How does it taste?”

Nathan Fawcett nodded. “Mhm.”

Anne Sutton said, “It’s so great having my mom around.”

Mrs. Sutton always made all sorts of delicious food.

Anne Sutton just had to go over and pick it up; she never had to cook it herself.

Nathan Fawcett gazed at her and smiled.

The housekeeper had already prepared dinner, so Anne Sutton dished out some kimchi and they began to eat.

Because Nathan Fawcett had slept in the same room as Ian for the past two nights, Ian’s attitude toward him was a bit better today.

Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, “Stella Shields went to the hospital today.”

“What happened to her?”

“She has a cold,” Anne Sutton said. “But from the looks of it, it seems like she was scared into it. What did you say to her yesterday? She seems terrified of that Silas Hawthorne guy.”

“It’d be strange if she wasn’t,” Nathan Fawcett said. “That Silas Hawthorne… his last few fiancées all jumped off a building. Anyone in that situation would be scared.”

He had simply reminded Stella Shields of that yesterday.

‘Hopefully, she’ll think it through.’

‘Glory and riches, or your own life—which is more important?’

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, finding it all a bit incredible. “Is that Silas Hawthorne guy really so outrageous? Could there be some other reason?”

As someone who believed in science, she didn’t really buy into things like that.

Nathan Fawcett said, “Don’t think too highly of the people involved in this. It’s not like I’m spreading rumors about him just because he’s my enemy.”

Anne Sutton nodded. After all, she didn’t know Silas Hawthorne and didn’t really understand the situation.

She said to Nathan Fawcett, “Do you know how the Shields Family has been doing recently? Are they running into some kind of trouble?”

“What trouble could they be in?” Nathan Fawcett said. “Justin Shields recently hired Charles Prescott to work for him.”

“…” Anne Sutton hadn’t heard about that. “Charles Prescott? He went to work for Justin Shields?”

“After leaving SV, he had nowhere else to go. The auto industry wouldn’t take him, so he followed Justin Shields into the entertainment business,” Nathan Fawcett said. “The Shields Family should be fine for now.”

Nathan Fawcett wasn’t targeting them, and others knew the Shields Family had some connection to him, so no one would go out of their way to make things difficult for them.

Although the Linden Family hadn’t offered the Shields Family any help lately, they hadn’t suppressed them either.

As long as Justin Shields didn’t make any mistakes and the Shields Family managed their business well, there wouldn’t be any major problems.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and asked, “Why the sudden mention of him? Did he contact you?”

Anne Sutton shook her head. “No! I just heard from Stella Shields that Silas Hawthorne was introduced by her brother, and I was wondering why someone like Justin Shields would introduce his own sister to a man like Silas Hawthorne.”

“What kind of person do you think Justin Shields is?” Nathan Fawcett asked, looking at Anne Sutton with curiosity.

Anne Sutton looked at him. “You won’t get angry if I tell you?”

‘She was genuinely afraid of him now!’

‘Afraid that, just like before, he would target Justin Shields just because she got a little close to him.’

Nathan Fawcett: “…”

He looked at Anne Sutton without saying a word.

Anne Sutton said, “Then I won’t say it! How could I dare?”

Nathan Fawcett said, “Go ahead. I won’t cause any trouble.”

Only after he said that did Anne Sutton speak up. “I think he’s a pretty good person. Even though the rest of the Shields Family is annoying, he’s alright.”

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett let out a short laugh.

Anne Sutton asked, “What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing,” Nathan Fawcett said. “You’re just seeing him through rose-tinted glasses. It seems like a real shame you two didn’t get together back then. My bad for snatching you away.”

The moment he finished his passive-aggressive remark, Anne Sutton pinched him. “That’s enough out of you!”

‘He was really taking it too far.’

‘He had just promised he wouldn’t cause any trouble.’

‘And here he was, already starting trouble with her!’

Anne Sutton resolved to never believe the man’s lies again.

Nothing he said was trustworthy.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, “Anne, you don’t love me.”

“…” The corner of Anne Sutton’s mouth twitched. “Then what would it take for you to believe I love you? Should I just cut my heart out and show it to you?”

Nathan Fawcett said, “Try saying ‘I love you.'”

“…” Anne Sutton looked at the man, then glanced at the two children eating at their side, who occasionally looked up at the two ridiculous adults.

‘How could she possibly say something like that?’

‘Especially at a time like this?’

Nathan Fawcett said, “See? You can’t say it.”

“Don’t push it!” ‘How could she say it in this kind of setting?’

She really couldn’t say it in front of the children.

‘How embarrassing would that be?’

Nathan Fawcett huffed. “See! Woman! These are your true colors! You don’t like me at all.”

As Nathan Fawcett spoke, he sat to the side and started eating, acting as if he were genuinely angry.
