Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 474: Are You Done With Your Work Already?
Stella Shields looked at Anne Sutton and said, "You have someone protecting you, so of course you don’t know what it’s like to be afraid. Not like me..."
Anne Sutton said, "If you don’t like him, then why are you with him?"
Stella Shields lowered her head, thinking of Justin Shields. She had grown up by her brother’s side and was a little scared of his temper.
It was one thing to be spoiled by him normally, but now, the moment she saw Justin Shields get angry, she was terrified.
Anne Sutton found it incredible that as soon as she spoke, Stella had meekly lowered her head.
’This person...’
’Is this really Stella Shields?’
’When did she get so timid?’
Anne Sutton asked, "How did you end up with Silas Hawthorne?"
Stella Shields said, "My brother introduced us."
"Your brother?" Anne Sutton said. "Do you want me to give him a call and have him come pick you up?"
"Better not," Stella Shields said. "My brother won’t come."
"But you’re sick." ’In the past, if he knew Stella was sick, he definitely would have come.’
Stella Shields said, "Really, don’t. Can you talk to Ms. Linden for me? I know she really listens to you now."
Anne Sutton said, "I’ll go ask."
After she spoke, she walked out the door. After a moment’s thought, she picked up her phone and called Justin Shields.
Justin Shields answered. "Hello."
"It’s me, Anne Sutton."
Justin Shields paused, phone in hand. He and Anne Sutton hadn’t been in contact for a long time.
Over the phone, Justin Shields was silent for a long time, not saying anything.
He and Anne Sutton used to be friends, but after Nathan Fawcett got involved, the two of them didn’t even dare to contact each other.
Receiving Anne Sutton’s call now, his feelings were complicated.
Anne Sutton said, "Your sister is sick. Don’t you want to come see her? She’s in Veridia, at our hospital."
Hearing this, Justin Shields paused for a moment, then said, "Isn’t she with Silas Hawthorne?"
Anne Sutton said, "Are you really okay with leaving her in someone else’s hands? From what I can tell, your sister doesn’t seem to like that Mr. Hawthorne. Are you going to make them be together? If you have time, you should come pick her up."
"Anne." Justin Shields’s voice was gentle. "Back when you gave up on Charles Prescott and chose to be with Nathan Fawcett, were you afraid?"
"..." Justin Shields’s words left Anne Sutton stunned.
Those old memories came flooding back.
She fell silent for a moment...
Justin Shields said, "See? You weren’t afraid back then either, were you? There’s nothing wrong with Silas Hawthorne. He’s well-off and a good person. There are just some strange rumors about him. I want Stella to marry him because there’s no one in this world more suitable for her! She can only find happiness if she marries a man who can protect her."
"..." Listening to Justin Shields, Anne Sutton said, "It’s been a while. How have you changed so much?"
Something about him sounded strange.
Justin Shields said, "I haven’t. I’m still the same as before. When I get a chance, I’ll come treat you to a meal."
"How’s your company doing lately?" Anne Sutton asked.
Justin Shields said, "It’s doing well."
"Shouldn’t you still come see your sister?"
"It’s fine, she’s doing well over there," Justin Shields said. "She’s not a child, and Mr. Hawthorne will take care of her. She hasn’t caused you any trouble, has she? If she has, I’ll give her a call."
"That’s enough, don’t call her." Anne didn’t know what had happened, but she got the feeling that Stella Shields was now quite afraid of her brother.
Justin Shields said, "Well, I have to get back to work. Bye, Anne."
"..." Anne Sutton hung up and frowned at her phone.
She had called him thinking he would come pick up his sister, but it seemed he had politely refused.
She returned to the door of the hospital room and saw Stella Shields lying on the bed, wrapped in a blanket and trembling. She looked quite pitiful.
「At noon」
Anne Sutton had lunch with Anna Linden.
Anna Linden was on the phone with her family, talking about Finn.
When she finished her call, she looked up, saw Anne Sutton staring at her, and asked, "What are you looking at me for?"
Anne Sutton said, "Stella Shields is sick. She’s staying here at our hospital."
"Lots of people come to our hospital every day. Why bring her up? Don’t you dislike her?"
"I went to see her today. She said she wants to stay at our house for a few days," Anne Sutton said. "She asked me to ask you."
Anna Linden said, "Why on earth would she want to stay at our house?"
Anne Sutton said, "I don’t know either. She’s been living with a man recently, and she doesn’t like him. Then she got sick and wanted to come to our house for a couple of days. I guess she just doesn’t want to be with him."
Anna Linden said, "Don’t bother with her. I don’t have a good impression of that family anymore. Let her do whatever she wants! She’s not a child."
Anne Sutton looked at Anna Linden and nodded. "Okay."
Stella Shields lay on the hospital bed. In the past, whenever she was on an IV drip, time seemed to crawl by.
Not like now...
She actually wished it would go slower.
But Silas Hawthorne came anyway.
He had finished his work and came to see her.
Seeing her still in the hospital bed, he asked, "How are you feeling? Any better?"
Stella Shields said, "Not yet. I might have to stay in the hospital for a couple more days. I’m fine, you should go take care of your own things."
’As long as I don’t have to see him, I’d be happy even if it meant staying in the hospital.’
Whenever Silas Hawthorne was in front of her, she was very afraid of him.
Silas Hawthorne looked at Stella Shields, noticing how uncomfortable she was in his presence. "Are you afraid of me?" he asked.
Stella Shields froze. Of course she was afraid of him. Last night, she had been too scared of him to sleep, and the fear had ended up making her sick.
Now, seeing this man, she denied it, "N-No, not at all!"
The butler brought over the food he had prepared for Stella Shields.
Silas Hawthorne took the bowl, sat down beside her, and said, "Have something to eat. You haven’t eaten all day. Food will help you get better faster."
As he spoke, he picked up the spoon, intending to feed her.
Stella Shields looked at the man. "N-No, you don’t have to. I can do it myself."
"It’s all right." Silas Hawthorne was very patient as he fed Stella Shields.
Seeing that she couldn’t refuse, Stella Shields could only sit there, watching the man.
Silas Hawthorne looked at her, smiled, and fed Stella Shields half a bowl of congee.
Perhaps it was because she hadn’t eaten all day.
Under his care, looking at this man, he didn’t seem so terrifying anymore.
Stella Shields found it rather ridiculous.
For some reason, when she heard Nathan Fawcett say that several of Silas Hawthorne’s previous fiancées had jumped off buildings, she had been scared to death.
But looking at the man before her, he didn’t seem to be what she had imagined.
Stella Shields looked at him and asked, "Are you done with all your work?"
"Mostly," Silas Hawthorne said. "I dealt with a few things quickly and came to see you. I couldn’t just leave you in the hospital, could I?"
Listening to his words, Stella Shields looked up at the man. Silas Hawthorne had already had the butler take the bowl away.
