Chapter 373: Coming to Take Nathan Fawcett Back

Anna Linden asked, "Are you getting used to it here?"

Caleb Summers said, "It’s fine. My dad didn’t send you, did he?"

Anna Linden glanced at him and said, "Your dad asked me to bring you back."

Caleb Summers laughed, then said firmly, "You can tell him I’m doing great here! I’ve said it before, if Nathan isn’t going back, I’m not going back! From now on, I’ll just stick with him at the Fawcett Group."

Nathan Fawcett stood nearby. Hearing Caleb’s words, he glanced at him and said, "You don’t have to. You can go back on your own."

"No way," Caleb Summers said. "If you’re not at Linden Group, I don’t want to go back! I just want to stick with you."

He was being incredibly loyal right now.

Anna Linden looked at the two of them and said to Nathan Fawcett, "Nathan, you should come back with us too."

Hearing this, Caleb Summers looked at Anna Linden in disbelief. "You’re agreeing to let Nathan come back?"

Anna Linden said, "You left the company just to threaten me, didn’t you? Now there’s no one left to handle things."

Honestly, the whole thing was giving her a massive headache.

She felt like she could never keep up with her work at the hospital, and now she had to divide her attention to deal with company business. That’s why she had no choice but to make this trip to bring Nathan Fawcett and Caleb Summers back personally.

Caleb Summers said, "You’re the best! I knew it!"

With that, he turned to Nathan Fawcett. "Did you hear that? We can go back."

Standing nearby, Nathan Fawcett said, "You go back."

"What do you mean?" Caleb Summers asked. "You don’t want to go back with me?"

"I’m not going back. I still have things to do here." He knew his mother had only come to get Caleb.

Nathan Fawcett had no intention of returning to the Linden Group.

’In truth, there were many places he could go.’

’It wouldn’t matter where he went!’

But he didn’t want to go back to the Linden Group just to be a tool in his mother’s eyes.

’No matter what he did, he could never satisfy her anyway.’

Anna Linden gazed at Nathan Fawcett. "So, are you really planning to cut ties with me for good? To never see me again?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I never said that. I just don’t want to go back to the company. Let Caleb go back. They’re still not used to the changes at the office, but it won’t take long for Noah to learn how to handle things."

Anna Linden stood to the side, watching Nathan Fawcett. He had always been by her side, so she had always taken him for granted.

All this time, she had been dismissive of him.

But no matter how she treated him, he was always there by her side, calling her Mom and doing as she said.

Only now did she realize just how distant he had become.

’It’s like he’s grown up!’

Caleb Summers looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Nathan."

"I’m stepping out for a bit." Nathan Fawcett turned and walked out the door.

Watching him leave, Anna Linden looked over at Caleb Summers. "He doesn’t want to come back."

Caleb Summers said, "I’ll go talk to him! He’ll agree."

When Nathan Fawcett walked out the door, he saw Anne Sutton at the top of the stairs. She looked at him. "Finished talking with your mother?"

"Mhm," Nathan Fawcett said. "What do you want for dinner? Let me take you out."

Anne Sutton said, "I actually am a little hungry. But shouldn’t we ask your mother to come with us?"

"She probably won’t want to come. Let’s just go by ourselves."

Anna Linden was used to doing things on her own.

Anne Sutton figured as much, so she went with Nathan Fawcett to get something to eat.

They didn’t go too far. Anne Sutton just took him to the nearest barbecue restaurant.

The restaurant was quite close to the Sutton family home.

When Anne Sutton was little, she loved coming here with her sister.

She sat down and asked Nathan Fawcett, "Why did your mother have Caleb Summers come here?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "She told Caleb to go back to the Linden Group."

"With both of you gone, the impact on the company has been huge! I can tell she’s been a lot more irritable recently. She’ll go crazy if you don’t go back soon!"

"She asked me to go back, too."

Hearing that, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. "And you agreed?"

Anne had thought Anna Linden wouldn’t forgive Nathan Fawcett!

It seemed that as long as you were capable and irreplaceable, no one could deny your value.

Even though others wanted to manage the Linden business, when they actually got the chance, they found they didn’t have the ability.

Nathan Fawcett said, "I didn’t agree. I don’t really want to go back."

Anne Sutton looked at him. "I thought you would."

Nathan Fawcett let out a small laugh. "I’ve discovered how peaceful it is lately. These are probably the most relaxing days I’ve had in years. I don’t want to go back to all that!"

Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "Your mom is going to be furious, then."

Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ll persuade Caleb to go back. Once he does, things will be easier for my mother. Then it won’t matter whether I return or not. After all... I’m just an unimportant person."

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, a small smile playing on her lips. She reached out, took his hand, and said, "Don’t be so down! Our Nathan is plenty capable! You can do just fine on your own without the Linden Group, right?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, his lips curving into a smile. He squeezed her hand and said, "I wish you had some free time. We could go on a trip somewhere."

"I’m afraid that’s not possible right now."

Anne Sutton said, "Things at the hospital are just too busy! It would be nice to have some free time. Where would you want to go?"

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and suddenly remembered—his health used to be poor, so he spent most of his time at home recuperating. He probably rarely got to go out.

’Now that he’s better and doesn’t have to go back to the company for the time being, it’s the perfect time for it!’

Nathan Fawcett said, "Anywhere would be fine. Just to get away for a bit."

"Well, you should take Ian with you!" Anne Sutton said. "It would be a perfect father-son trip."

"Absolutely not!" Nathan Fawcett said. "What fun would it be without you?"

Sitting in her chair, Anne Sutton smiled upon hearing his words.

Nathan Fawcett watched her. ’She’s so beautiful when she smiles.’

"What are you smiling at?"

Anne Sutton said, "When did you get so attached to me?"

He gazed at her. "You’re only just realizing that now?"

"..." Anne Sutton said, "I just figured that with your personality, you wouldn’t care about me this much!"

’But from how he’s been acting lately, it seems like he’s really falling for me.’

Nathan Fawcett asked, "Then what kind of person did you think I was?"

Before, his mother had been the most important person in his life—his obsession—and that was the source of his unhappiness.

Then Anne Sutton came along, and his focus slowly began to shift.

She became his light.

And so, he was willing to focus all his energy on her.

Every time Nathan Fawcett thought about this, he felt a sense of resignation.

’Maybe being a person who feels things so deeply is a mistake!’

’And of course, he had to fall for a woman like her—so careless with her heart, someone who doesn’t take relationships seriously!’

’As long as she showed him the slightest bit of kindness, he would be overjoyed.’

Anne Sutton stared at Nathan Fawcett, saying nothing.

Soon, the owner brought over the food they had ordered.

Anne Sutton handed him a pair of chopsticks. "You have to try this. It’s delicious. Sharon and I used to sneak out late at night to eat here all the time."

Speaking of Sharon Sutton, Anne said, "I wonder how Sharon is doing. I wish I had time to go see her, but it’s too late today."

She glanced at the time, figuring Sharon was probably already asleep.
