"..." Sharon Sutton looked at Mrs. Hayes. "I don’t care. Either way, I am not letting her stay here. Don’t ever let her set foot in my house again. The sight of her makes me sick!"

No woman could tolerate the presence of the other woman!

Sharon Sutton turned to Lucy Todd. "Lucy, David and I are married. Have you no shame, still pestering him like this? You were all over him before, and I already let that go, but now you’re at it again?"

After being berated by Sharon, Lucy Todd lowered her head and said, "Mrs. Hayes, I should go. I won’t stay here. It’ll make Sharon upset."

"Absolutely not!" Mrs. Hayes said. "Don’t listen to her! I’m here. I’ll stand up for you."

Seeing Sharon act this way, Mrs. Hayes said angrily, "I’m insisting she stay in my room tonight! If you’ve got the guts, then throw us both out! Lucy, come on. Come to my room and ignore her! We’ve known each other for so many years, and she’s still so unreasonable! If we’re really going to talk about a homewrecker, I’d say *she’s* the one!"

Hearing Mrs. Hayes, Sharon said, "What did you just say?"

Mrs. Hayes said, "Look at you. What have you done since you married into our family? Nothing! All you do is eat and sleep, not lifting a finger, and I still have to come all the way here to wait on you."

"I didn’t ask you to come!" Sharon couldn’t believe it. ’I’m pregnant, and yet in my mother-in-law’s eyes, I do nothing.’

Mrs. Hayes retorted, "That’s right! You didn’t ask me to come! You wanted to hire a maid. Do you think our David’s money grows on trees? Can we even afford a maid? It’s just a pregnancy, do you have to be so delicate? When I was pregnant with David, I had to work all day and then come home to cook for the entire family. You’re so fragile! A real pampered princess from the city! Too bad that’s not your lot in life, is it? You’re pregnant, but I don’t see any of your family coming to help."

The thought of cooking all these special meals for her every day made Mrs. Hayes burn with resentment.

That was one thing, but now she was being this unreasonable just because Mrs. Hayes let Lucy stay for one night.

At that, Mrs. Hayes dropped all pretense of politeness.

Sharon said, "My mother has her own life; she can’t come over. But my sister was the one who helped arrange David’s job."

"Your sister may have helped, but he still had to be competent to get it!" Mrs. Hayes shot back. "Besides, you’re married. Shouldn’t you be helping him? If you don’t, are you going to earn the money to raise that son in your belly yourself? Come on, Lucy, let’s go to bed!"

With that, Mrs. Hayes pulled Lucy right into her room.

Sharon’s gaze fell on David. He was drunk, completely oblivious to everything.

She looked at the man, absolutely furious. ’I told him not to let his mother come over, but he insisted!’

She ignored him and went back to her room to sleep.

Of course, Sharon didn’t sleep a wink all night.

The next morning, at the crack of dawn, Mrs. Hayes was banging on the door. "Sharon, get the hell out here."

Sharon dragged herself out of bed, walked to the door, and looked at Mrs. Hayes standing outside. "What is it now?"

Mrs. Hayes demanded, "How could you just leave David on the sofa to sleep all night? He came home so late, and you didn’t even bother to look after him."

"Look after him?" Sharon’s gaze fell on David. "Why should I have to look after him?"

The memory of Lucy bringing him home made her furious. ’And she expects me to look after him?’

’In her dreams!’

"You wretched girl! And after how good our David is to you! How can you be so heartless?"

Mrs. Hayes began to curse, livid.

David had mostly slept it off by now and was jolted awake by his mother’s shouting.

He glanced at his mother. "Mom."

"You’re awake?" The voice belonged to Lucy Todd.

Mrs. Hayes glanced at her. "Lucy, you’re up?"

David turned his head and glanced at her. "What are you doing here?"

"You have the nerve to ask!" said Mrs. Hayes. "You got drunk last night, and Lucy brought you home. It was too late, so I had her stay in my room! Meanwhile, your wife threw a tantrum all night and left you on the sofa without a second thought."

David rubbed his neck. "I’ll go check on her."

He walked into the bedroom and saw Sharon sitting on the bed.

When she saw him come in, she quickly pulled the covers over herself.

"Sharon!" David said.

Sharon said, "Get your mother out of here. Now."

Sharon looked at the man, who was finally awake. "I don’t want to see her."

"What’s all this fuss about?" David asked.

He had intended to comfort her, but who would have thought the first words out of her mouth would be a demand to kick out his own mother?

’That’s going too far!’

"I’m making a fuss?" Sharon said. "Why were you drinking with Lucy Todd?"

"I ran into her at dinner last night. I drank too much, and I never expected she would be the one to bring me home."

"Fine, let’s just assume that’s true," Sharon said. "But your mother knows full well about your history with her, and she still had her stay the night. What is that if not a deliberate attempt to piss me off?"

She hadn’t slept all night thinking about it, and she was still seething with pent-up anger.

Sharon never wanted to live with Mrs. Hayes again!

’She should have insisted on her original plan and hired a nanny to take care of her.’

’Then she wouldn’t have to be here, putting up with this abuse!’

David said, "I’ve known Lucy forever. Our families are close, and she’s good friends with my mom. Just treat her like a family friend, okay? You know you’re the only one for me. There’s no way I’d have anything going on with her! If I did, would we even be here today?"

’When Lucy was pregnant, he had chosen Sharon over her and the baby.’

’That was more than enough proof of how good he was to Sharon!’

He didn’t want Sharon to keep fighting about this.

"I don’t care!" Sharon said. "Either you get your mom and her out of this house, or I’m leaving."

"Leave?" David asked. "Where would you go?"

"I can go anywhere I want," Sharon retorted. "Don’t think I can’t leave you just because I’m carrying your child! David Hayes, if you dare to have anything to do with that woman, I swear this will not be over."

"Alright, stop making a scene!" David said. "I’ll talk to her in a bit and tell her not to come over anymore. I’ll talk to my mom, too."

Sharon said, "Make your mom leave. Now. I don’t want her taking care of me anymore. She even said I do nothing all day. I never asked her to take care of me! You’re the one who insisted she come over. You were deliberately trying to upset me, weren’t you?"

David looked at Sharon and said, "I have to go to work soon. Can you just stop? It’s such a small thing, is all this really necessary?"

"’A small thing?’" Sharon echoed. "You think this is a small thing?"

She’d been stewing all night. The other woman was sleeping in her home, and he really thought it was such a trivial matter?
