Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 341: Nathan, Are You Impotent?
Anna Linden smiled. "Do you think he’s a good person?"
"I’ve spent time with him. He’s a very good person, and he loves you very much. He’s always treated you as his everything. I heard from Anne that his relationship with his father has been strained for years because of you. Dr. Linden, I don’t know much about your family’s affairs, but Ethan Linden really is a fine young man."
"But you saw his attitude toward me just now! I was just coming here for a meal. Good grief, he made it seem like I was here to rob the place, bursting in like that."
It was humiliating, and that was another reason Anna Linden was angry.
Mrs. Sutton thought about the incident with Nathan Fawcett. She could tell he had just been worried.
Mrs. Sutton tried to console Anna Linden. "Dr. Linden, don’t dwell on it. Your son is truly an outstanding man. Just have a good talk with him later! He’ll listen. Don’t work yourself up and get sick over it."
Anna Linden looked at Mrs. Sutton and said helplessly, "I feel like such a failure, both as a person and in how I handle things."
"How can you say that?" Mrs. Sutton said. "If someone like you is a failure, then what about me? What does that make me? I lived to this age only to find out my husband had a son with someone else, and then I got divorced. But that was the path I chose. My only regret now is that I didn’t live for myself when I was young."
Anna Linden looked at Mrs. Sutton. They had talked about her past before, and she recalled how detestable Sean Sutton truly was.
Anna Linden said, "Don’t you dwell on it either. That man had better not show his face in front of me, or I won’t let him get away with it."
Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton smiled. "Dr. Linden, thank you."
It felt like someone had her back.
Mrs. Sutton stayed at the restaurant and chatted with Anna Linden late into the evening. In the end, it was Anna Linden who drove her home.
Anna Linden looked outside and asked, "So you and Anne Sutton are living here now?"
Mrs. Sutton said, "Ethan Linden and Ian are here too. Why don’t you come in and see them?"
Anna Linden said, "Forget it. I’d better not. I’ll just get angry again if I see him."
Perhaps it was because he was her own son that her expectations for Nathan Fawcett were so high, which was why they so often fought.
Hearing her, Mrs. Sutton said, "Well, I’ll head inside to rest then. Be careful on your way. We’ll see each other again soon."
Anna Linden nodded. "Okay."
Mrs. Sutton opened the car door and was about to get out when Anna Linden looked at her and said, "Oh, by the way."
Mrs. Sutton turned back and glanced at Anna Linden. In the presence of the formidable Anna Linden, Mrs. Sutton seemed a bit like a gentle lamb.
Anna Linden said, "Actually, I’ve been thinking... if Ethan Linden wants to be with your daughter, I suppose it wouldn’t be such a bad thing."
Her initial impression of Anne Sutton had been terrible.
But after getting to know Mrs. Sutton, she found her to be a very kind person.
From that perspective, Anne Sutton probably couldn’t be all that bad either.
Anna Linden’s bad impression of Anne Sutton all started when she had a child for Nathan Fawcett in exchange for money.
When Mrs. Sutton heard this, she said, "That’s wonderful! The two of them have a great relationship. I can tell Ethan Linden is quite afraid you won’t approve. If you give your blessing, he’ll be over the moon."
Anna Linden said, "You don’t have to tell him this. I’ll talk to him later. And don’t tell him I drove you home, either."
"I know," Mrs. Sutton said. "I understand. I won’t say a word, don’t worry."
Only then did Anna Linden drive away, her mind at ease.
Anne Sutton opened the door and saw Mrs. Sutton walk in.
Mrs. Sutton looked at her and asked, "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"
Anne Sutton said, "I wanted to wait for you. Did you take a taxi back?"
Mrs. Sutton nodded. "Yes. Dr. Linden stayed at the restaurant a little longer, so I kept her company. What’s wrong?"
Hearing her mother mention keeping her company, Anne Sutton asked, "She’s been to the restaurant before?"
"She’s been coming to the restaurant to eat recently. We chat often." Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "What, were you afraid she was going to give me trouble?"
"I was a little worried before," Anne Sutton said. "She really doesn’t like me. I thought she might have gone there to cause trouble for you."
Mrs. Sutton walked over, glanced at Nathan Fawcett, and said, "Ethan Linden."
Hearing Mrs. Sutton, Nathan Fawcett looked up at her.
Mrs. Sutton said, "I have to have a word with you about what you did today!"
Nathan Fawcett: "..."
He looked at Mrs. Sutton, feeling wronged. "What did I do?"
"How could you speak to your mother like that?" Mrs. Sutton said. "You’re the younger generation, and she’s the mother who carried you for ten months to bring you into this world. Have you ever thought about how hard things are for her? How hurt she must have been by what you said? Don’t you ever do that again! You go and apologize to your mother later. Don’t let her be sad."
Hearing Mrs. Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "I didn’t know she was just there to eat."
Mrs. Sutton said, "Regardless, you were in the wrong. Even if it was a misunderstanding, you should still apologize to your mother, understand? Otherwise, she’ll hold it against you."
His face grim, Nathan Fawcett looked at Mrs. Sutton and nodded.
Anne Sutton breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that Nathan Fawcett was being relatively well-behaved in front of her mother.
Anne Sutton asked, "So, did you and Dr. Linden have a good chat?"
Mrs. Sutton said, "I think she’s a very nice person."
"Really?"
Anne Sutton still felt a bit skeptical.
’They really didn’t get into a fight?’
Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "She’s come to my restaurant several times. She really likes my cooking, and we usually chat a bit. I honestly didn’t know she was Ethan Linden’s mother before, and she didn’t know about my relationship with you. We only found out today."
Listening to her mother, Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett. She remembered how he had gotten into a fight with Anna Linden over getting their two mothers to meet, and he hadn’t even been home for the past few days because of it.
’To think that...’
’They ended up meeting on their own anyway.’
Anne Sutton asked, "When are you planning to go back to the Linden Family’s home? Let’s go together."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "No need. I’ll go by myself."
With that, he stood up. "I’m going to get some rest."
Anne Sutton watched him go, helpless. She turned to her mother and said, "Mom, you should get some rest too."
Mrs. Sutton worked hard at the restaurant and had gotten into the habit of resting as soon as she got home.
Having said most of what she needed to with Anne Sutton, she went upstairs.
Before her mother had gotten back, Anne Sutton had already showered, and Ian was already asleep.
Her mother had come home a bit late today.
Anne Sutton entered the room and saw Nathan Fawcett lying on the bed with his eyes closed.
’He looks so well-behaved when he’s asleep.’
Anne Sutton lay down beside him and said, "You fell asleep that fast?"
’He only came up a few minutes ago.’
Nathan Fawcett ignored her.
Anne Sutton reached out a hand. "Nathan."
She slipped her hand under the covers, touching his chest and feeling the rhythm of his heartbeat.
He grabbed her hand and pulled it away, clearly not wanting to deal with her.
Anne Sutton said, "We were getting so cozy earlier, and now you’re giving me the cold shoulder. What’s the matter, can’t perform?"
Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett glared at her. ’Can’t perform?’
