Anne Sutton hadn’t been that scared at first, but after hearing what Caleb Summers said, she glanced at him, a little nervous. "Really?"

Caleb Summers nodded.

Nathan Fawcett stood to the side, watching the two masterminds. He walked over and pushed the door open.

’What’s the use of just analyzing things? Better to go in and see for myself!’

When Anna Linden saw Nathan Fawcett walk in, she asked, "What are you doing in here?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at his mother and asked, "I should be the one asking you that. What are you doing here?"

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s tone, which sounded like an interrogation, Anna Linden snapped, "Is that how you speak to me? I’m your mother!"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I just don’t understand what you’re doing here. Do you hate the idea of me being with Anne Sutton that much? Do you hate the idea of me being happy? If it were Ethan Linden standing in front of you today, would you still be acting like this?"

He fired off a series of questions, which stunned Mrs. Sutton.

Mrs. Sutton quickly said, "Ethan Linden, how can you speak to your mother like that? She’s still very concerned about you."

"Concerned?" Nathan Fawcett looked at his mother. "I’d like to know if she’s really concerned about me at all."

Mrs. Sutton said, "She just came here for a meal. She didn’t know about my connection to Anne before. Your mother is a very good person!"

She was afraid Nathan Fawcett would hurt his mother’s feelings, so she quickly tried to explain.

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anna Linden.

Anne Sutton and Caleb Summers walked in as well.

Seeing this, Mrs. Sutton said to Anne Sutton, "Anne, quickly get Ethan Linden out of here. Don’t let him make his mother any angrier."

Hearing this, Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Let’s go."

Caleb Summers watched the scene unfold and quickly pulled him out, afraid he would offend Anna Linden and get kicked out of the Linden Group.

Seeing how familiar her mother seemed to be with Anna Linden, Anne Sutton quickly closed the private room’s door.

Once outside, Nathan Fawcett shook off Caleb Summers’s hand. Caleb said, "You’re really not afraid of dying, are you? Talking to your mother like that."

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb Summers, then glanced at Anne Sutton. "So you’re that scared of me leaving the Linden Group?"

Caleb Summers was speechless at his words.

Nathan Fawcett walked straight out.

Watching this, Anne Sutton said to Caleb Summers, "You should head back first. We’re leaving too."

She called to Ian and followed Nathan out.

At the entrance, Nathan Fawcett was already sitting in the car.

Anne Sutton got into the car holding Ian and looked at him. "Nathan."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her but didn’t respond.

Since he didn’t seem to want to talk to her, Anne Sutton decided to just sit in the back.

Ian looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Mommy, it’s okay if Daddy isn’t talking to you. I’ll talk to you."

Anne Sutton looked at her little one, the corners of her mouth lifting into a smile. She ruffled his hair. "Okay! Ian is the best, not like some people who get angry over every little thing."

Even though she knew he had been upset from the start, his throwing a tantrum here still left Anne Sutton feeling a bit helpless.

Nathan Fawcett drove back to Anne Sutton’s place.

After they got home, Anne Sutton first got out of the car with Ian in her arms. Nathan Fawcett parked the car, got out, glanced at Anne Sutton, and said nothing.

Anne Sutton followed Nathan Fawcett upstairs.

Once upstairs, Anne Sutton first sent Ian away before turning to Nathan Fawcett. "Are you still angry?"

Nathan Fawcett sat down on the side. "Angry? Why would I be angry?"

Anne Sutton said, "I was just saying. I just don’t think you need to make your relationship with your mother so tense. Caleb Summers was also just trying to help you!"

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. "So you were just trying to help me too?"

"It might sound a little disingenuous, but that’s really what I think. I don’t want to see you lose everything you have with the Linden Family because of me."

She knew all too well how painful it was for people without power or influence to live their lives at the mercy of others.

He was born lucky and had never experienced such things, so he wouldn’t understand.

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "Maybe in your eyes, everything I do for you just seems foolish."

"That’s not what I mean, Nathan." Anne Sutton looked at him. "If you think of me that way, it makes me really sad! Both Caleb Summers and I were truly just looking out for you! Seriously, look at the Linden Family. How many people there are just waiting for you to leave? And Ryan Linden—even though he hasn’t been around lately, who knows what he’s plotting behind your back! They would never try to talk you down; in fact, they’d love to see you on bad terms with your mother, wouldn’t they?"

Nathan Fawcett averted his gaze.

Anne Sutton looked at him and took his hand. "Alright, I was wrong today. I won’t say it again, okay?"

’Let’s leave the thankless job of offending people to Caleb Summers!’

’Caleb Summers can say it to him, and he won’t care.’

’But if I’m the one who says it, he gets upset.’

Anne Sutton didn’t like seeing him unhappy.

After all, they were so sweet together, and she really liked that feeling. She didn’t want to be fighting with him over every little thing.

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "Don’t worry. I won’t leave the Linden Family. I know what I’m doing. And I certainly won’t do anything that harms my own interests for your sake."

Maybe he’d had thoughts like that before, but not anymore.

That conversation with Anne Sutton and Caleb Summers had been a wake-up call.

It made him realize just how terrifying the idea of giving up everything for a woman could be.

Anne Sutton looked at the man and said, "As long as you know what you’re doing."

Nathan Fawcett sat to the side, looking at Anne Sutton with complicated feelings.

Anne Sutton looked at the man and said, "By the way, I have no idea why your mother would suddenly show up at my mom’s shop. I was totally baffled when I saw her today."

Anne Sutton still couldn’t figure out the situation with Anna Linden.

If she hadn’t heard her mother’s explanation, she would have thought Anna Linden was there to cause trouble for her mom.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. "If you were so worried, why didn’t you ask her directly?"

"Didn’t you see how angry your mother already was?" Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. "You’re truly fearless."

Nathan Fawcett said, "I was just reasoning with her."

’Thinking about it now, she must think it’s ridiculous how worked up I got on her behalf!’

Anne Sutton said, "You call that reasoning? I thought you were about to start a fight."

Nathan Fawcett said, "You’re overthinking it."

Anne Sutton looked at the man and asked, "Do you want some water? I’ll go get you a glass."

Usually, when she wanted water, he would be the one to get it for her.

This time, upon hearing Anne Sutton’s offer, Nathan Fawcett said, "No."

But Anne Sutton went and poured a glass of water anyway.

Because she had seen Anna Linden at her mother’s shop, Anne Sutton couldn’t sleep now.

Neither she nor Nathan Fawcett was in a hurry to sleep; they wanted to wait for Mrs. Sutton to come back.

...

Back in the private room, Anna Linden sat to the side while Mrs. Sutton tried to console her. "Kids are just like that sometimes. Don’t be angry."

Anna Linden said, "He wasn’t raised by my side. His father turned him into this."

"..." Mrs. Sutton fell silent, then said, "Actually, Ethan Linden is a really good person."
