Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 336: Not Hardship, a Hard Life
After leaving home, Anna Linden didn’t go anywhere else.
She hadn’t eaten yet today.
After some thought, she had Chloe Chase drive her to Mrs. Sutton’s place, where she ordered a few small dishes and sat down.
...
That evening, Anne Sutton was rooming with Faye Yorke. They had met before, so Faye had spoken with the housing coordinator, and they ended up sharing a room.
Faye Yorke looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "By the way, are you still with Ethan Linden?"
Seeing Faye’s gaze, Anne Sutton cleared her throat and nodded. "Yeah."
"What do you see in him?" Faye said. "I was even thinking of introducing you to a nice, handsome guy! You seem like a really good person."
Anne Sutton looked at Faye Yorke and asked, "If... Ethan Linden’s health wasn’t an issue, would you be willing to be with him?"
"There’s no point in ’what ifs’," Faye laughed. "But, if his health weren’t an issue, I probably would have gotten together with him!"
"Then what if he gets better? Wouldn’t you regret it?"
Anne Sutton looked at Faye Yorke.
Hearing this, Faye Yorke walked right up to Anne Sutton and stared at her. "Are you asking because you’re afraid I’ll steal Ethan Linden from you?"
Anne Sutton looked at her, forcing a smile. "I was just making small talk."
’How ridiculous of me,’ she thought, ’to even ask something like that.’
"Don’t worry!" Faye said. "You two are already together, aren’t you? It’s not like I’m desperate for a husband. I was only interested before because my family was so supportive of it. But since you like him, that’s that. I don’t like fighting with other women over a man. It’s not like he’s the last man on earth! There are plenty of others, right?"
Anne Sutton looked at Faye. "Faye, you’re a really good person."
Faye smiled at her words. "Thanks for the compliment, but I’m going to bed!"
She kept a regular schedule and was quite health-conscious.
She was ready to turn in for the night.
Anne Sutton nodded. "Go ahead and sleep. Good night."
Anne Sutton also got ready and lay down on her bed.
’She had to get up early for a meeting tomorrow.’
As she lay down, she saw a message from Nathan Fawcett: "Are you done for the night?"
She quickly replied, "I’m already in bed. I’m rooming with Faye Yorke."
Nathan Fawcett was sitting on the sofa in his room. He’d had a fight with his mother, so he was in a bad mood.
He used to be terrified of his mother getting angry.
But now...
Because of Anne, he had argued with his mother more than once.
’It felt like as long as he had Anne, it wouldn’t matter if his mother never spoke to him again.’
Nathan Fawcett realized he was getting a bit lovesick.
He glanced at his phone and saw Anne’s message. Seeing that she was rooming with Faye Yorke, Nathan asked, "How did you two end up rooming together?"
Anne replied, "It’s what they assigned."
They were here for a training program, and accommodations were centrally assigned, so it was only natural they’d end up rooming together.
Nathan typed back, "She won’t give you any trouble, will she?"
"She won’t," Anne replied. "Faye’s a really good person."
"So you two are friends now," Nathan replied, a little surprised.
Anne smiled and sent a laughing emoji. "I know, right? And I have you to thank for it!"
...
Since she had to be up early the next day, Anne didn’t chat with Nathan for long before going to sleep.
In the morning, she and Faye Yorke went to the conference. The speaker for the first lecture of the day was Faye’s grandfather, Academician Yorke.
After the lecture, Faye took Anne to meet her grandfather.
"Grandpa."
Academician Yorke was in the middle of a conversation when he heard Faye’s voice. He shot her a look and said, "I told you not to call me Grandpa in public."
"So what if I do?" Faye retorted. "Everyone knows you’re my grandpa! Anyway, Grandpa, let me introduce you. This is my roommate, Anne Sutton."
Academician Yorke glanced at Anne, who said, "Hello, sir."
Academician Yorke nodded. "Our Faye hasn’t caused you any trouble, has she?"
"Not at all," Anne said. "Faye is wonderful. I’m grateful for how she’s been looking after me."
Anne was even a little overwhelmed that Faye had brought her to meet her grandfather.
"That’s good," said Academician Yorke.
Faye smiled. "Oh, by the way, Grandpa, Anne works for Mr. Linden now. And she’s Ethan Linden’s girlfriend."
Hearing this, Academician Yorke gave Anne a surprised look.
’Ethan Linden’s girlfriend?’
That detail couldn’t help but pique his interest.
Anne hadn’t expected Faye to mention that and felt a little embarrassed.
Academician Yorke glanced at Anne but didn’t say anything more. He had other matters to attend to, so he left.
As Faye and Anne walked back to their dorm, Faye said to her, "My grandpa’s just like that. He’s very concerned with his image in public. When you come to my house sometime, you’ll see he’s actually a really nice person."
"Will he be unhappy that I’m with Ethan Linden?"
"Why would he be?" Faye said. "He doesn’t care about things like that. He’s usually so busy. Sure, he’s always nagging me to get married soon, but he’d never force it. I told him about Ethan’s situation before. And even though he really wanted me and Ethan to get together back then, he didn’t say anything about it later. Don’t be scared. He won’t bite!"
Anne gave a resigned smile.
Perhaps it was because Faye had been on a blind date with Nathan, and Nathan had lied to her, but Anne couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
’She was a little afraid Faye would blame her.’
’After all, Faye was just too good of a person!’
After the experts’ lectures, there were practical sessions with the mentors, and Anna Linden came to teach a class as well.
Anne even got to observe one of her surgeries up close.
Ever since her divorce from Arthur Fawcett, Anna Linden had honed her surgical skills to their absolute peak.
As a female surgeon, she faced disadvantages compared to her male colleagues in many aspects of day-to-day work, such as physical stamina.
But that wasn’t the case for Anna Linden.
She was now on par with any of her male counterparts.
In her field, she remained one of the top surgeons in the country.
Anne and the other trainees observing from the sidelines were amazed.
...
When it was over, Anna Linden took off her mask. Anne handed her a bottle of water. She glanced at Anne and said, "Thanks."
She took the water and drank a sip.
Anne said, "That was incredible, Dr. Linden."
’For some reason, she suddenly remembered that Dr. Linden had been her idol. She used to admire her a great deal.’
Anna Linden looked at Anne and said, "Not hard work, just a hard life."
"What’s the matter, Dr. Linden?" Anne laughed. "What could possibly make you think that?"
’She was the eldest daughter and heir to the Linden Family. She was born with a silver spoon, and on top of that, she was so talented and capable.’
’If she had a hard life, then what hope was there for anyone else!’
"I had a fight with Ethan," Anna Linden said.
"..." Hearing this, Anne was stunned for a moment. "What happened?"
"What do you think happened?" Anna Linden said. "We never fight about anything except for you. He wanted me to go see your mother, and I refused. Now he’s not even answering my calls."
