Manaless Mage

Chapter 70 Sudden Notification

Her eyes squinted slightly as he turned her head to Trent. ‘First things first, why would an elite student like Trent bother to even visit the spell library?’ She wondered.

Unlike regular Elementalists in the academy. Elite student had access to more powerful versions of spells, so they never bothered to come to the regular spell library.

Besides, most of the top students were very arrogant and saw it as ‘beneath them’ to come to the regular spell library.

“Why are you even here in the first place?” She asked Trent.

Trent’s heart skipped when he heard the woman’s question, he didn’t reply immediately as different thoughts ran through his mind.

“I came here looking for a tier one spell.” He said rather hurriedly.

Harry brows furrowed slightly when he heard Trent’s reply, from Trent’s irregular breathing, it wasn’t hard to guess that he was lying.

Trent was definitely in the spell library for another reason, but what that reason was; he didn’t know.

Though he appeared to be focused on the librarian and her conversation with Trent, he wasn’t. He was more focused on the other voice’s words that were ringing in his head, unlike the last time, he tried his best to make it seem like he wasn’t zoning out or anything.

[The Host shouldn’t compare himself with normal Elementalists]

The system’s emotionless and robotic voice first resounded in his head, Harry was quite surprised when the system replied his question.

However, that surprise faded away when it went silent once more.

[There is a reason the power gap between each mana core stage and spell tier is very high.]

[The amount of mana required to cast a tier two spell was at least three to five times more than the mana needed to cast a tier one spell. This applies to all tier.] .𝙘𝙤𝙢

Harry’s eyes squinted slightly as he tried to get the other voice’s point.

[If we were to put the amount of mana in each mana core stage in simpler terms—by using the system unit and calculations. A stage one mana core has at least 10 mana points, while a stage two mana core has at least 100 mana points.]

Harry’s eyes widened slightly, he already understood what the other voice was trying to explain.

[The amount of energy you need to use a skill is a lot less than the amount of mana an Elementalist uses on a spell.]

Harry nodded his head slightly in understanding. Going by the other voice words, the huge disparity in the amount of mana didn’t really matter.

While he could activate skills on the level of tier one spells for only two energy points, an Elementalist would need at least five times more mana.

This meant his energy had more value so he didn’t have anything to worry about, it was just like two currencies of different value. A mana core had more quantity while his energy had more quality.

The librarian kept going on and on about how they shouldn’t cause commotion in the spell library, Harry was quite surprised that she believed Trent’s excuse—he felt that Trent’s lie was very obvious.

It didn’t seem like she would punish either him or Trent which was a good thing. From the look of things, she didn’t notice when Trent attacked him earlier or things could have gotten a lot more complicated.

She only appeared when Trent was casting a second spell.

Though Harry was quite curious about Trent’s true reason for coming to the library, he didn’t put much thought to it. After all, it wasn’t his business.

After giving a long boring ‘pep’ talk on how they should not quarrel and should maintain peace in the library, the librarian finally left them alone.

Trent faced the ground as he heaved a sigh of relief. He started walking towards the exit as he didn’t want to stay in the library anymore.

He was sure the librarian’s eyes would be on him from now, he would only attract suspicions on himself by trying to search for the scroll.

He planned on checking his dorm one last time and then returning to the library later.

The woman’s eyes followed Trent as he left the library. A low sigh left her lips, just that little issue had left her exhausted.

In a way, what happened was her fault. Since commotions like this hardly happened in the library, she had gotten lax in her duty.

If she had reported the case to an instructor, she was sure she would also be blamed for neglecting her duty, so she simply let it slide with a warning.

Her father didn’t exactly like her current job, the only reason he didn’t force her to change it was because he knew the kind of person she was—a lazy person.

If he got wind of information that she was still slacking off, he might force her to quit the job—which was something she didn’t want.

Harry picked up the tier one spell [Wind blade] he planned on learning as his ‘first’ wind spell.

Though he had already learnt three wind skills through the system—wind blade, wind steps and wind needles, he still had to take one of the scrolls and ‘officially’ learn in it the wind hall.

He couldn’t just announce that he had learnt three skills within hours, that would put too much attention on him and might even attract unwanted suspicions.

He walked towards the librarian who was seated at a counter placed in one corner of the library.

Just like any normal library, the students also needed to register their names before taking anything out of the library.

The process didn’t take long as he only needed to write down his name and what he took from the library.

He then started walking towards the exit, however, just as he got to the edge of one of the shelves, he noticed that one of the scrolls seemed to stick out of the other end shelf.

Harry’s eyes squinted as he stared at it. A normal person might not have noticed it however, Harry now had better perception of his surroundings due to his high perception stat.

He slowly walked to the disarranged scroll planning to put it back in place. However, just as he placed his hand on the ‘book’, a sudden system notification appeared in front of him.

[Does the Host want to learn the skill “Blade Barrage”?]

[Cost: 10 Skill points]

[Yes/No]
