Manaless Mage

Chapter 45 New Skill: Energy Control

[A/N: I made a mistake in the last chapter, the flame was white not blue. My first plan was to make it blue so I subconsciously wrote blue. it has been edited and changes has been made.]

[Strange… it’s mixed with blue and golden colours…]

Harry’s brows creased slightly when he heard the other voice’s words. He didn’t understand what the other voice meant by “strange”.

To him there was nothing wrong with the colour. Back then, when he used mana conceal, the colour of the ‘substance’ that coated the mana core was also white. So a part of him had already guessed that his energy was probably white in colour.

‘What do you mean by “Strange”?’ Harry asked the other voice.

[…]

Unfortunately, he got no reply from either the other voice or the system.

His brows twitched slightly as he gritted his teeth.

‘I thought you already stopped this annoying attitude…’ Harry complained inwardly. Since he evolved into his current class, the other voice had been chatting with him regularly.

It didn’t just vanish after a few words like it used to do but rather it actively replied his questions. This made Harry think that things would perhoas change after his evolution and his relation with the other voice would improve, but it seemed that wouldn’t be the case.

‘White… blue… and gold.’ The other voice thought. Although it existed in Harry’s head, it didn’t mean the other voice couldn’t have his own thoughts—the privilege didn’t extend to Harry though, at least not yet.

Right now, it wasn’t sharing its thoughts with Harry like it used to do so Harry was naturally unable to hear what he was thinking. ‘Maybe… I shouldn’t be worried. At least white is still the dominant colour…’

Harry continued observing the white flame. Since it didn’t have any mana veins or foundation connected to it, he wasn’t sure if the method in the manual would work.

Elementalists develop their foundation by drawing mana using their mana veins. They could naturally feel the mana around them, all they needed to do was to attract it using their mana veins.

A person could still draw mana even without a mana core, as long as their mana veins and foundation were intact. The Mana core was only used to store and reserve mana.

This mana drawn would then be used to build and develop the foundation, it was like building a house.

The foundation and mana veins would gradually thicken and strengthen with time, till it became strong enough to hold a mana core.

People in the foundation developing stage couldn’t use spells, since they hadn’t created their mana core, they had no way to channel their mana and cast spells.

It took about one year or a few months—the time taken depended on their talent—for an Elementalist to completely solidify their foundation.

After the foundation was solid, the mana core would then be created and connected to the affinity or element orb.

However, the flame didn’t have any affinity orb around it. Harry currently had three affinities, so the absence of element orbs was quite strange.

Affinity orbs were simply an person’s affinity or elements. The number of element orbs around the mana core depended on the elementalist’s affinity or affinities; a person with one affinity would naturally have one element orb and so on.

They converted raw mana to elemental mana. Affinity orbs could also be used to store elemental mana.

The type of elemental mana depended on the nature of the element orb, e.g, a wind element orb would convert the raw mana into wind elemental mana while a fire element orb would convert it to fire elemental mana.

The elemental mana was what Elementalists channeled to cast spells. For a spell to be successfully cast, raw mana would be channeled from the mana core to the element orb.

The affinity orb would then convert it to Elemental mana, which could be used to cast spells. The Elementalist could also directly channel the elemental mana stored in the affinity orb, this method was faster and even shorter.

The speed of conversion and limit of containable elemental mana depended on the affinity grade. The higher the grade, the faster the conversion and holdable elemental mana and vice-versa.

The orbs also acted like a limiter to the mana core. The mana core could neither hold more mana than the affinity orb nor develop more than the affinity orb.

The total amount of elemental mana that could be contained in a low grade element orb was the same as the amount of mana in a stage three mana core while the total amount of mana that could be contained in a peak grade element orb was the same as the amount of mana in a stage eight mana core.

So the mana core of a person with low grade affinity could never develop past the third stage.

For those with dual or three affinities, the orb with the highest affinity grade determined the mana core limit.

This was why an Elementalist’s affinity grade determined their highest attainable mana core stage.

Harry didn’t ponder on this for too long, nothing was normal about him or the system to begin with.

He also felt it was strange… what kind of energy was he using?

He knew it wasn’t mana because mana was usually yellow in colour—at least according to what he was told by the Lightning Instructress.

He knew better than to ask the system for answers because it never answered any question related to the system’s origin or anything related to the term ‘Manaless mage’.

All he knew was that his energy was a lot stronger and better than mana.

He focused on the flame as he watched it flicker and ‘dance’ beautifully. He could feel a strange connection between him and the white flame that was in his chest.

He focused on that connection as he tried to attain a certain level of synergy with the flame. 𝘦𝘯.𝘰𝘳𝘨

According to the other voice, the Elementalist training method wouldn’t really benefit him but the best choice would be the combat mage training method as that would assist him on learning how to control his energy.

However, that didn’t mean the former was completely useless to him.

Elementalists also used and controlled mana, although it was on a much smaller scale when compared to combat mages mana control.

What Elementalists mainly controlled and channeled was Elemental mana, it was a lot easier for an Elementalist to control elemental mana because their bodies had a certain level of synergy/affinity with it.

Controlling the flame was a lot more harder than he expected, however, he didn’t give up but kept trying to control it.

Since it was his energy, he felt he should definitely be able to control it—even if it was only slightly.

After a few failed trials, he finally felt in tune with his energy. It was strange but the flame felt was like a second body to him, he didn’t let this ruin his focus but and tried to control the flame.

He swayed the flames slightly making the edges flicker rapidly for a moment before settling again.

Just then, a notification suddenly flashed across his eyes.

[New Skill Learnt!]

[Energy Control Level 1!]

[Congrats Host on learning a new skill!]

Due to the sudden notification, Harry’s concentration was disrupted and he lost control of the flame.

Although, this slightly annoyed him as it meant he would have to start all over again, he was more surprised by the notification in front of him.

Keep supporting this novel by sending golden tickets and voting for it with power stones. I’ll release a bonus chapter when we hit 400 power stones or 100 golden tickets! Keep voting!

Important information: Starting 20th of December, there would be a WN event where each golden ticket would be counted as double. This would help the novel a lot. If you want to send tickets to Manaless mage at that time, save your tickets and don’t send before 20th December 2022.

If we reach the target, there would be a mass release! Keep supporting Manaless mage! (This note won’t unnecessarily increase the coin price, don’t worry about that.)
