Chapter 217: Chapter 217 I trust you

Alessio sat in the back seat beside Daisy while his driver drove them through the city. The streets were busy with morning traffic but inside the car, everything was quiet. For a while, neither of them spoke.

Daisy kept looking out of the window, her expression distant as she thought about everything that had happened that morning.

Cedric’s words outside the courthouse. The way he had told her to leave. The way he had looked at her. She replayed it all in her mind, trying to make sense of the tangled feelings inside her chest.

Alessio glanced at her. He had been watching her for a while, noticing the way her fingers were clasped tightly in her lap, the way her shoulders were slightly hunched, the way she hadn’t really relaxed since they left the courthouse.

"Actually, you don’t have to worry about finding place."

Daisy turned toward him. Her dark eyes were curious, and her head tilted slightly.

He rested one arm casually against the seat and looked at her. His posture was relaxed but his eyes were serious.

"You can stay at my house for a few days."

Daisy’s eyes widened immediately. Her lips parted slightly and she blinked in surprise. She shook her head quickly, Her hands moved in a small, dismissive gesture.

Alessio blinked. "Why are you shaking your head like that?"

Daisy looked slightly embarrassed and lowered her hands. Her cheeks flushed a faint pink and she looked away.

Alessio understood what she might be worried about and quickly explained.

"I don’t live alone."

Daisy looked at him again.

"I live with my two brothers," he said. "And Rafael’s girlfriend also lives there."

He paused, watching her expression.

"So you won’t be alone with me, if that’s what you’re worried about."

Daisy stared at him for a moment. Then she slowly shook her head.

Alessio raised an eyebrow. "No?"

Daisy nodded.

She lifted her hands and began gesturing. Her movements were slow and deliberate, making sure he understood.

I’m not scared of you.

He understood the first part and looked slightly surprised. His green eyes widened just slightly and his lips parted.

Daisy continued.

I trust you.

Alessio went completely silent.

For a few seconds, he simply looked at her. His expression was unreadable, but something unknown flickered in his eyes.

Those few words seemed to affect him much more than he expected.

"You trust me?"

Daisy nodded. A small smile appeared on her face. It was gentle, genuine, and it reached her eyes.

Alessio looked away toward the window, trying to hide the smile that had begun appearing on his own face. His heart was beating faster than usual, and he could feel the warmth spreading through his chest.

"That’s good."

His voice sounded strangely restrained. He cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure.

Daisy tilted her head, watching him curiously.

Alessio cleared his throat again. "I mean... it’s good that you trust me."

He glanced at her again. Her eyes were still on him, warm and patient.

"But still, if you stay at my house, you’ll have your own room. Nobody will bother you. You can stay until you figure out what you want to do next."

Daisy listened carefully. Her fingers relaxed slightly in her lap.

"And if you don’t like it," he added, "I’ll take you somewhere else. I’m not forcing you."

Daisy’s expression softened. She looked down at her hands for a moment before giving him a small nod.

Alessio noticed. "So you’ll consider it?"

Daisy nodded again.

His lips curved into a quiet smile. "That’s good. That’s good."

He turned toward the window again but his expression remained noticeably lighter.

By the time they reached Evermont Mansion, Cedric’s car arrived almost at the same time.

Grandpa James had been dropped back at the hospital and Cedric’s expression had become noticeably darker without his grandfather there to keep him from saying whatever came to his mind.

Alessio noticed it immediately. He glanced toward Daisy, then toward Cedric. He didn’t like the way Cedric was looking at her.

So when Daisy stepped inside, Alessio followed her without hesitation.

He wasn’t going to leave her alone with Cedric, especially after everything that had happened that morning. If Cedric wanted to argue, Alessio could deal with him. If he tried to make Daisy uncomfortable again, Alessio wasn’t going to simply stand there and watch.

Daisy seemed to feel the same difference. With Alessio walking beside her, some of the tension that had been sitting in her shoulders slowly disappeared. She looked calmer and her steps became more natural as she led him upstairs.

After walking down the familiar hallway, Daisy stopped in front of her bedroom door. She opened it and gestured for him to come inside.

Alessio paused for a second before following her. His heart was beating faster than it should have been and he had to remind himself to breathe normally.

The moment he stepped into the room, his heartbeat immediately became faster. He had been here before. In fact, this was the third time. Yet somehow, being inside Daisy’s room still affected him more than it should.

His eyes slowly wandered around the familiar space. The little details that belonged entirely to her. The small knitted blanket on the bed. The yellow scarf draped over the chair.

The little bottles of perfume she had made herself, arranged neatly on the side table. The books stacked on the shelf. It felt different from seeing her anywhere else. This was her private space. Her little world. And he was standing inside it again.

Alessio swallowed quietly. Why is my heart beating like this?

He tried to act normal. He really did. But his gaze kept wandering around the room before eventually returning to Daisy. She had already walked toward her wardrobe and was looking through her things, her movements slow and careful.

Alessio watched her for a moment. Then he looked away.

Get a grip.

But standing inside Daisy’s bedroom was somehow making him nervous. His palms felt slightly sweaty and his heart refused to calm down. He rubbed the back of his neck and took a slow breath.

Daisy turned around and noticed him standing there. She tilted her head, her eyes curious.

Alessio immediately straightened. "I’m fine."

Daisy hadn’t even asked anything. She simply stared at him.

Alessio cleared his throat. "I mean... you were looking at me."

Daisy’s lips curved slightly. She seemed amused. Her eyes sparkled with quiet laughter.

Alessio looked away again, his ears turning slightly red. "You should pack whatever you need. I’ll wait."

Daisy nodded and returned to her wardrobe. She began pulling out clothes, folding them neatly and placing them into a small suitcase.

Alessio stood there quietly, trying very hard not to look too happy about the fact that he was standing inside her room for the third time. But his heartbeat stubbornly refused to cooperate.
