Chapter 212: Chapter 212 She cares

There was no pretending this didn’t affect him. He looked at her side profile as they walked together. Daisy’s expression was calm, almost peaceful. She didn’t seem to realize what she was doing to him. Or perhaps she did. Alessio couldn’t tell.

They reached the staircase leading to the first floor. There were quite a few people moving through the entrance and the stairs were becoming crowded. Alessio instinctively moved closer. When someone passed too close to Daisy, he gently pulled her toward himself, making sure she wouldn’t be bumped.

Daisy looked up at him.

Their faces were suddenly much closer. She blinked. Then she smiled.

It was a small, simple smile. But Alessio completely lost his train of thought.

His green eyes softened. For a moment, everything around him seemed to blur. The people, their voices... Even the reason they were there. All of it disappeared.

There was only Daisy looking up at him with that little smile.

His heartbeat became so loud that he was convinced she could hear it.

She’s smiling at me.

His gaze stuck on her face... He looked completely lost.

Daisy tilted her head slightly. Alessio didn’t respond. He simply stared. Then he took another step upward.

His foot landed slightly wrong on the edge of the stair. His body tilted. His eyes widened.

"F*ck..."

He quickly caught himself against the railing. His grip was tight, his knuckles white.

Daisy’s eyes widened too. She immediately reached toward his arm, checking whether he was alright. Her fingers pressed against his sleeve, steadying him.

Alessio looked down at her hand on his arm. Then back at her face.

And despite almost falling down a staircase because he had been too busy staring at her, the only thought running through his mind was painfully simple.

She cares.

His lips slowly curved into a helpless smile.

Daisy looked at him with an amused expression. She gently gestured as if asking whether he was alright.

Alessio nodded. "I’m fine."

He paused. Then, unable to stop himself, he added quietly, "Just distracted."

Daisy raised an eyebrow.

He immediately looked away. "Let’s go."

But he didn’t let go of her hand. And this time, neither did she.

Grandpa James noticed them as they walked toward the lawyer’s office and a small smile appeared on his face.

At least someone was there for Daisy. Someone who understood her. Someone who could communicate with her without making her struggle to explain every little thing.

Inside the lawyer’s office, everything had already been prepared. The room was spacious and formal with dark wooden furniture and shelves lined with legal books.

The divorce papers were arranged neatly across the lawyer’s desk, along with all the necessary documents for Cedric and Daisy to review and sign. The papers were stacked in careful piles, each section marked with colorful tabs.

Cedric and Daisy sat next to each other on the long sofa. The distance between them was small but it felt like miles. Neither of them spoke. Neither of them looked at each other.

Across from them, Jenna and Margaret were sitting on another couch while James sat between them, his expression still serious. Margaret’s hands were folded in her lap and she kept glancing at Daisy with concern. Jenna’s posture was perfect, her expression carefully neutral but her eyes kept flickering toward the papers on the desk.

The lawyer adjusted the papers in front of him. He was a middle-aged man with kind eyes and a professional demeanor.

"Everything has been prepared. I’ll explain each section before either of you signs anything."

Daisy nodded. Her hands were clasped in her lap, and her expression was calm.

Cedric remained silent. His jaw was tight and his eyes were fixed on the papers.

Meanwhile, Alessio was standing near the corner of the room. He had deliberately stayed away, not wanting to make the situation more uncomfortable than it already was.

His arms were crossed and his expression was carefully neutral. He watched the scene unfold with sharp, observant eyes.

James noticed him.

"Alessio."

Alessio immediately looked over. "Yes?"

"Why are you standing in the corner?"

Alessio blinked. "I thought I’d stay out of the way."

James frowned. "Come here."

Alessio looked slightly confused but he obeyed. He walked toward the sofa where Daisy and Cedric were sitting.

James pointed toward Daisy. "You came here to help her communicate with the lawyer, didn’t you?"

"Yes."

"Then go sit next to her so you can interpret her gestures if necessary."

Alessio nodded. "Alright."

He walked toward the sofa. As he approached, he noticed Daisy was already looking at him. Her dark eyes were soft and she blinked at him once.

Alessio’s expression softened slightly. He took the empty space beside her. The sofa dipped slightly under his weight and he felt the warmth of her presence beside him.

The lawyer glanced at him. "Are you familiar with her sign language?"

Alessio nodded. "I understand her gestures quite well."

"Good. If there’s anything unclear, you can help explain what she means."

Alessio nodded again.

Daisy looked at him for a moment before giving him a small smile. Her eyes curved slightly and the tension in her shoulders seemed to ease.

He returned it. His lips curved upward, just slightly, a small, private smile meant only for her.

Cedric, sitting on her other side, noticed the exchange. His expression immediately became colder. His jaw tightened and his hands clenched against his thighs. He looked toward the lawyer instead, his voice sharp.

"Can we start?"

The lawyer nodded. "Of course."

He opened the first document. The pages rustled softly as he spread them out. "We’ll go through everything carefully. If either of you has any questions, stop me before signing."

Daisy looked down at the papers. Her fingers touched the edge of the first page and she scanned the words silently.

Alessio remained beside her, attentive to every small movement she made. His eyes followed her hands, watching for any sign that she needed help.

Daisy read through the divorce document carefully, her eyes moving slowly over every section.
