Arabella Toussaint:

I ignored the heavy silence in the room and walked back to my parents. Their bodies were locked in the same positions as before.

I stopped in front of my father and studied him for a moment. His eyes immediately moved to mine, and I could still see that desperate look in them.

Without really knowing why, I lifted my hand and placed my palm against his forehead. Something sparked beneath it, and I sucked in a deep breath.

The strange sensation ran under my palm and into my fingers, but at the same time, I felt it inside my head too. Like tiny sparks were going off somewhere behind my eyes.

My eyes slowly widened. What the hell was this? I waited for the pain, but it never came. Instead, it felt... good... warm. Almost comforting.

"You can move," I muttered softly. The sparks disappeared. And so did whatever had been holding my father up.

His entire body went limp, and he dropped to the floor at my feet. I jumped back in surprise. "Ouch!"

But before I could worry about him, I looked at Vikki and stepped over my father and placed my palm against her forehead.

The same sparks returned immediately under my palm and inside my head. This time I didn’t pull away. I closed my eyes for a second, letting that strange, pleasant feeling move through me.

"You can move too." Vikki collapsed right on top of my father.

"What the fuck!" Alpha Chris’s shocked voice came from somewhere behind me, but I barely heard him. I was too busy staring at the two people tangled on the floor in front of me.

What had I just done? Before I could make sense of it, a heavy arm slid across my shoulders and pulled me firmly into a warm body.

I already knew who it was and slowly raised my head. Lucien wasn’t looking at me. His golden eyes were fixed on my father and Vikki lying on the floor, and the arm around my shoulders tightened slightly, almost as if he was making sure I stayed exactly where I was... beside him.

We stayed like that for another few seconds before Lucien finally moved his arm from my shoulders.

My father and Vikki were still on the floor, looking too weak to even move. Alpha Chris immediately called a couple of Omegas over and ordered them to help the two of them.

Lucien’s phone started ringing at the same time. He glanced at the screen and walked a little farther away to take the call.

"Arabella." I turned at the sound of Alpha Chris’s voice.

He was watching the Omegas helping my father and Vikki onto the couch. "At least make sure they eat something. They haven’t had food or water for hours. After all, they are your parents."

Seriously? Did he still consider me an Omega? I had also left my dinner because of them.

I looked over at Lucien. He still had his back to us, phone pressed to his ear. I turned back to Alpha Chris and gave him a sweet smile. "And what’s next? You’ll ask me to wash their bums too? Where is their precious Luna daughter? And their Beta son?"

"What?" His mouth fell open, and for once, I actually enjoyed seeing an Alpha look that shocked. Beside him, Luna Ava made a disgusted sound under her breath. "No wonder your own family couldn’t stand you."

I slowly turned my head toward her. She looked away almost immediately, pretending she hadn’t said anything.

"Please don’t stop now, Luna." I smiled at her. "I’d love to hear parenting advice from the woman who stood here for years and watched everything they did to me." Her face changed.

"I never..."

"Exactly." I nodded, not letting her speak. "You never did anything, Ava." Her eyes widened when I called her name, but I wasn’t finished. "So maybe worry about your own conscience and your own bum before worrying about how good of a daughter I am."

The entrance door suddenly flew back and hit the wall with a loud bang, making everyone turn. A man strode into the room, and it took me barely a second to recognize him.

Alpha Dante. The current Alpha of Blackthorn Pack. Alpha Chris’s son and my former fated mate.

Great.

But then I noticed the woman walking in, right behind him, and my brows shot up. My dear sister had decided to join us too. Vanessa stopped mid-step the moment she saw me. "What are you doing here?"

I shrugged and pointed toward the former Alpha with my thumb. "He called me."

"Whoa." She gave a humorless laugh as she looked toward our parents. "First you do this to them, and then you come back, remove whatever spell you put on them, and play nice. Wow."

I stared at her. Spell? So now I was a witch too. Good to know. Before I could respond, Vanessa’s eyes suddenly glazed over. I knew that look.

Someone was mind-linking her. Her expression changed almost immediately, and her eyes flicked toward Alpha Chris for a second.

Daddy-in-law must be warning her. Probably something along the lines of, Shut your mouth. The Lycan King is standing right there.

Her eyes quickly moved around the room until they found Lucien. And just like that, some of the attitude disappeared from her face.

She stayed quiet for a moment, but as she walked past me, she leaned closer. "Having the King around won’t save you forever," she whispered. "Sooner or later, you’ll be alone again. And when you are, I’ll remind you exactly where trash like you belongs."

I slowly turned my face toward her. Oh, she still wanted to play. My gaze hardened on hers before dropping deliberately to her stomach and coming back up.

"I know you’re carrying a baby, Vanessa," I whispered with a sweet smile. "So, you better watch that filthy mouth of yours. I’d hate to sneeze and accidentally turn you into a statue like your dear mommy. It might be dangerous for the little monster you are bringing into this world." Her face twisted in shock and rage.

I leaned a little closer. "Has someone ever told you that you look prettier when you’re quiet?"

Vanessa’s eyes widened so much that I almost laughed. For once, my sweet sister had absolutely nothing to say.
