“Why’re you looking at me like that?” I whispered.

The Lycan King Lucien Volkov didn’t answer. His fingers brushed over the bruises on my back before they stopped at the faded scars around my shoulder.

“Who did this to you?”

I lowered my eyes, “My family.”

He clenched his jaw, “And who did this?” He placed his finger on a whiplash mark near my boob.

“My family,” my voice dropped to a whisper as I lowered my gaze. Silence settled between us.

I thought he would mock me; instead, his thumb traced one of the scars, sending a shiver down my spine.

“You’re angry because these scars look ugly,” I said in a small voice.

His golden gaze hardened, “I’m angry because they laid their hands on what’s mine. I need to remind them, Arabella, that touching you has consequences.”
