Chapter 331: She wasn’t reckless, at least.

"Hey ..." Amelia called out again when, even after a long moment, she heard no sound from Adelyn’s side. "You’re still there?"

She pulled the phone away from her ear to check whether the call was still connected.

It was.

Freya noticed her expression and asked with a slight frown, "What’s wrong?"

Amelia looked at her and casually shrugged. "I don’t know. She suddenly went silent. Could it be that she fainted from weakness?"

Freya’s expression immediately grew tenser.

"She—"

She was about to speak when Adelyn’s voice suddenly came from the other end of the line.

"I haven’t fainted. I’m still on the line."

"You are?" Amelia asked, her voice carrying obvious disbelief. "Then why aren’t you speaking? You almost made us panic."

"I was just caught up in a thought. I ..."

"Thought?"

Amelia’s eyes widened dramatically.

"I just asked you which floor your house is on, and you need to think about it? Don’t tell me your illness took a toll on your brain, and now you can’t remember or memorize things!"

She just meant it as a joke at first, but when she realized there was a possibility of something like that happening, real worry flashed in her expression.

"Oh no ... that would be a disaster for all of us! How would you remember your lines ... the script? No ... your career —we can’t afford that!"

She looked up at Freya and spoke in an almost decisive tone.

"Freya, we need to take her to the doctor urgently."

Adelyn pursed her lips on the other end of the call.

She was already trying to think of how she should handle this situation ...

And this woman was only making things more difficult.

Could she not give her even a moment of silence so she could think of a way out?

She couldn’t possibly let them find out that she had gotten herself a boyfriend right after repeatedly insisting that she was far, far from interested in having one.

Freya, on the other hand, only frowned more deeply after hearing Amelia.

"What are you saying?" she asked before extending her hand toward Amelia. "Give me the phone. Let me talk to her."

"But, Freya—"

"Amelia, give it to me."

Amelia obediently handed her the phone, watching as Freya pressed it to her ear before speaking.

"Adelyn, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? We can take you to the hospital ..."

"No, Sister Freya. I’m much better now. It’s just that I’m not at my place right now."

"You’re not home?" Freya asked, turning to glance at the apartment.

Though the building didn’t look particularly impressive, it was relatively better than what Freya had expected.

Low-key, but safe.

"What does she mean she’s not at home?" Amelia asked, her voice a decibel higher than usual.

Freya gave her a small nod before asking Adelyn the same question.

"Weren’t you sick? You should be resting at home."

Adelyn understood their concern, but at the same time, she couldn’t exactly tell them the truth.

"Sister Freya, I have been resting ... just not at home."

Freya paused.

"Not at home?"

"I’m at a friend’s place."

"A friend’s place?"

Amelia repeated the words before Freya could even react.

She might not have been on the phone, but she had kept her ears sharp and had heard everything Adelyn had said from the other end of the line.

"Hasn’t her friend also been her neighbor?"

She pointed that out, remembering that Adelyn had once mentioned a friend helping her find a place in the same locality.

... Which meant her friend must be staying in the same apartment.

Freya stared at Amelia.

However, she said nothing.

"We just brought you some fruits and wanted to check on you, Adelyn," Freya spoke again into the phone. "It’s fine if you’re doing well. Just rest properly. Filming will be starting soon, and before that happens, you need to be in your best health."

Adelyn nodded on her end.

"I understand, Sister Freya. I’m much better today. I’m sure I’ll be perfectly fine soon."

"Okay, then," Freya said in understanding. "Since you aren’t at home, don’t trouble yourself. We’ll visit you some other day."

Adelyn quietly heaved a sigh of relief.

The situation was actually quite simple, and she didn’t need to exaggerate it by getting so nervous.

But the moment it felt like everything might be revealed, she couldn’t understand why she suddenly became so uneasy.

As if ...

She wasn’t really ready to accept whatever existed between her and Dylan.

Perhaps ...

It was because this was only something temporary.

And she had never really thought about accepting it for real ...

Not ever.

After that, the call was hung up.

Freya handed the phone back to Amelia.

"Let’s go," she said before turning around and moving toward the car.

Amelia, however, didn’t move. She remained standing where she was.

When Freya turned back to prompt her again, Amelia looked at her and said with quiet certainty,

"Adelyn has returned to Ashvale, and she doesn’t have many friends. She only mentioned one, and I’m sure that friend of hers also lives here."

A flicker of understanding flashed through Freya’s eyes.

She knew what Amelia was getting at. However, she simply dismissed her suspicion.

"We don’t need to dive into those details, Amelia. She could have friends, and even if she doesn’t have many right now, she’ll eventually make some. We just need to make sure her work life stays smooth. That’s the only thing about her that concerns us."

Micro-monitoring wasn’t Freya’s style.

And though she had mentioned that once, she hadn’t actually planned to do it.

As long as Adelyn remained sincere and passionate about her work, giving her freedom in her private life wasn’t a problem.

Furthermore, as far as Freya understood, Adelyn knew what she was doing.

She wouldn’t deliberately cause trouble or do anything that would put her career at a disadvantage. She wasn’t reckless, at least.

And if she had chosen to spend time at a friend’s place, there was no reason to interfere.

Freya turned toward the car again.

"Come on."

This time, Amelia followed.

Meanwhile, on the other side—

Maria arrived to pick up Clara right on time.

Just as Clara was leaving the Scott Villa, Charlotte called out from behind, stopping her.

"Clara, where are you going? Your father is returning today. Weren’t we supposed to go and pick him up from the airport?"
