Love Across the Light Years -The Devil CEO Indulges My Lies.
Chapter 330: There was no way he was incompetent in that aspect.
Karl paused for a long second, lightly rubbing his chin.
"My brother handles Warren Corp all by himself," he said thoughtfully. "He isn’t particularly sick, but considering how much time he devotes himself to work, there are bound to be a few minor health issues here and there."
"But there’s never been anything very serious."
Adelyn listened and nodded in understanding. She wasn’t planning to ask anything further.
But then—
Karl suddenly lifted a finger as though he had just remembered something and said,
"Oh, right. Big Brother did have something serious before."
Adelyn immediately turned to look at him, her brows furrowing lightly.
"Serious?" she repeated. "How serious?"
Karl glanced at her before shaking his head rather helplessly. "I’m not really sure. But I remember that I hardly saw Brother when I was younger. We only reunited with him around three years ago."
"Three years?" Adelyn frowned in confusion. "Weren’t you always together?"
From what she had learned, the Warren family had arrived in Ashvale and established themselves as one of its most influential families within an incredibly short time.
No one knew much about their origins, but everyone knew the Warren family had four prominent sons —Dylan, Jasper, Felix, and Karl.
As for where the Warren family had come from ...
There was very little that had ever been recorded.
Karl slowly shook his head.
"Jasper, Felix, and I have always been together. Only Big Brother was away." He paused briefly before continuing. "He stayed away for around seven whole years before finally returning to us."
"I don’t know much, but I heard it was because he was receiving treatment. He only came back after his condition improved."
"What happened to him?"
The question slipped out of Adelyn’s mouth before she even realized she had asked it.
Her curiosity had completely gotten the better of her.
Unfortunately, Karl knew very little himself. Shaking his head once again, he replied,
"I don’t know. I was still pretty young back then, and Jasper and Felix never told me anything. By the time I was old enough to understand, Brother had already come back. So ... I never really thought about asking."
The furrow between Adelyn’s brows eased slightly.
"So ... that means he recovered."
Karl nodded.
"He should have." Then he hesitated before adding, "Although ... sometimes I still notice his immediate subordinates worrying."
He paused and then added again, "There have been moments when I felt like they were afraid something might happen to him."
"But ..." He shrugged. "Nothing ever did."
"Brother has never even been admitted to the hospital again. So ... he should be completely fine now. Shouldn’t he?"
Adelyn didn’t respond immediately.
Not because she disagreed ...
But because if Dylan had truly recovered completely, would Ford still remain by his side like that all the time?
There might still be something Dylan had deliberately chosen not to reveal.
And if even Dylan hadn’t said anything, she couldn’t exactly question Karl about it either.
After a brief silence, she asked instead,
"You mentioned his immediate subordinates..." She looked at him. "Are they Ford and the other three who are usually around him?"
She hadn’t seen many people around him, but the few she had seen, she remembered them all.
Karl nodded almost immediately.
But then his expression suddenly changed.
"Wait ..." He looked at her in confusion. "Sister-in-law, you’ve met Ford and Asher before, but how have you met Eve and Emmett too?"
Adelyn couldn’t immediately remember the names.
However, the moment Karl mentioned them, their faces surfaced in her memory.
"Oh ..." she said thoughtfully. "I met them briefly one day. They came here looking for your brother."
"Eve and Emmett are back?"
Karl sounded genuinely surprised.
"Then how come I haven’t seen them yet?"
Adelyn had no answer for that. So she simply chose not to dwell on it. Instead, she pushed her chair back and stood up.
"Since you’ve finished your breakfast, you should get going now."
Karl looked at her before standing up as well.
However, just as she was about to turn away, he suddenly asked as though something had been bothering him this entire time.
"Sister-in-law ..." He hesitated briefly.
"That rumor ... is it really false?"
Adelyn didn’t even have to think to know exactly which rumor he was referring to. Her expression instantly darkened. She slowly turned to glare at him.
The moment Karl met that icy gaze, his entire body stiffened.
He swallowed hard before hurriedly waving his hands.
"I ... I was only asking out of curiosity. If you don’t want to answer, that’s perfectly fine. I’ll leave first."
The moment he finished speaking, he didn’t linger for even another second.
He practically fled.
Behind him, Adelyn continued glaring at his retreating figure.
She hadn’t expected him to bring up that ridiculous topic again.
What exactly went on inside that brat’s head?
Even though she knew she shouldn’t be thinking about it, her thoughts still drifted back to the forgotten night at The Imperial View.
She couldn’t remember anything that had happened that night.
But ...
The intensity in Dylan’s eyes ...
That gaze she still remembered so vividly ...
A man who looked at her like that —there was simply no way he could be incompetent in that aspect.
The moment that thought crossed her mind, heat rushed straight to her cheeks.
Just then—
Her phone suddenly rang, snapping her back to reality.
She lowered her eyes and saw Amelia’s name flashing across the screen.
Without thinking much, she answered immediately.
"Hello, Amelia."
On the other end of the call, Amelia skipped the greetings and asked directly,
"How are you feeling now?"
Adelyn was caught slightly off guard.
Then she remembered Dylan mentioning that he had already informed Freya about her condition.
If Freya knew, it wasn’t surprising that Amelia knew as well.
So she answered honestly.
"I’m feeling much better now. There’s no need to worry anymore."
"That’s good," Amelia hummed with obvious relief. Then she casually added,
"Tell us which floor you’re on. We’re downstairs at your apartment and brought some fruits for you."
Adelyn froze.
Wait ...
They were at her apartment?
But ...
She wasn’t there.
Her grip around the phone tightened slightly.
What was she supposed to do now?
