Chapter 762: Comical Ball (Part 2)

Ma Youcai wielded the Authority of “Sorrow.” The moment he felt down, his Ability would activate uncontrollably, forcing everyone present to involuntarily recall their past sorrows.

Seeing this, Tang Ling began to glow with a brilliant, sparkling, seven-colored light. As the dazzling rainbow radiance washed over them, the moods of Ma Youcai and the other two immediately eased, and they no longer felt so miserable.

“Warning, warning. A historical seal has loosened. Divine War Ruins are about to emerge.”

Tang Ling’s detector suddenly blared an alarm. She immediately slapped a strange, comical-looking sphere. Countless intricate matrices lit up, and a yellow beam of Energy erupted, shooting skyward. It spread out in all directions, forming a conspicuous yellow Barrier that enveloped a hundred-kilometer radius.

A massive, comical smiling face materialized on the yellow Barrier, as if mocking the entire World.

Inside the Barrier, the three-dimensional World turned two-dimensional. The art style of everything shifted to that of a cartoon, and everyone’s appearance transformed into that of an anime character. Tang Ling’s transformation was the strangest of all—she became a cute, chibi version of herself.

“The cuter and funnier you are, the stronger you’ll be,” the chibi Tang Ling instructed them. “You have to use your imagination inside this Comical Barrier.”

The moment she finished speaking, a clash of Divine Power erupted in the distance. The powerful shockwaves were terrifying. A continuous series of rumbles echoed as the city seemed to wail and tremble, one building after another blowing apart in explosions.

On the satellite Investigation Mirror’s feed, two figures appeared out of thin air without any warning, immediately resuming the slaughter from their past. Their movements were perfectly fluid, with no sense of lag. They were clearly unaware they had ever been sealed; for them, those hundreds of years had been nothing more than an imperceptible instant.

This only piqued the Star Association scholars’ interest in the history of the Old Era. What could have sealed the Old Gods of the past?

On the battlefield, blood flew as the two crazed Killing Maniacs fought with wild abandon. Their eyes were bloodshot, their expressions savage and deranged. They were clearly lost in a frenzy of bloodlust.

One was a schizophrenic surgeon who craved blood and murder; the other was an immortal sadist and masochist. The two of them together were a match made in hell.

The surgeon wielded a scalpel. As he brandished it, a flurry of afterimages appeared, its sharp, cold glint so chilling it felt as though it could slice skin from a distance. The masochist, however, neither dodged nor evaded, allowing the scalpel to carve into his body.

The masochist’s clothes were in tatters, his entire body stained red with his own blood and covered in a gruesome network of crisscrossing wounds. The intense pain flooding his nerves only made him more frenzied and ecstatic, causing him to burst into wild laughter.

He was like a Berserker; the more damage and pain he sustained, the more ecstatic he became. The vicious, blood-soaked Long Saber in his hand swung with rabid fury, its speed somehow beginning to surpass the surgeon’s, forcing his opponent to switch from offense to defense.

But for some reason, both of them suddenly felt a wave of grogginess and sluggishness. An intense drowsiness began to creep into their exhilarated minds.

“Who is it?” The masochist abruptly stabbed himself, using the pain to fight off the sleepiness.

They both stopped fighting in unison and looked up to see the massive, comical smiling face in the sky. Even for vicious Killing Maniacs like them, the sight was enough to make them pause in stunned silence.

“What the hell is that?”

Immediately after, they recovered a sliver of sanity from their frenzy. They saw that each other and their surroundings had taken on a cartoonish art style, which only deepened their confusion and put them on high alert.

Just then, the chibi-styled Tang Ling appeared. Her body glittered with a seven-colored light, making her look like an Immortal Spirit straight out of a cartoon. Then, from behind her back, she produced a giant mallet and brought it crashing down on the surgeon.

BAM!

With a loud crash, the surgeon was flattened into a pancake. A few Stars circled above his head, complete with a matching sound effect.

The surgeon snapped out of his daze almost instantly. With a sudden jolt, his body sprang back up, rapidly returning to its normal shape. Without a word, he slashed at Tang Ling with his scalpel.

But Tang Ling was like a rubber-band man. She sucked in her stomach and bent over backward, her body stretching to dodge the sharp scalpel. Her bizarre, cartoonish movements made the surgeon frown in astonishment. He had never seen such a strange Transcendent.

Meanwhile, the Mad King, the Destroyer, and the Primordial Celestial Demon appeared and surrounded the masochist, launching a coordinated attack.

The three Demigods, all renowned for their close-quarters combat prowess, joined forces. In an instant, their assault was cataclysmic. The storm-like barrage battered the masochist relentlessly. He was like a lone skiff in a raging ocean, battered by a violent tempest with no ability to fight back.

“What a weak True God!” the Mad King couldn’t help but exclaim.

The guy’s physical durability was only at the Tier Five level—and a weak Tier Five at that. Aside from his rapid regeneration and immortality, there was nothing special about him. His saber, while stained with a murderous aura that set it above ordinary weapons, was nothing to a Demigod. All things considered, he was just a punching bag!

And to think they had mentally prepared themselves for a life-or-death battle. In the end… this was it?

As expected, the True Gods of the Old Era couldn’t compare to the True Gods of today. They were just a bunch of frauds.

However, the Spiritual Power of these two madmen was exceptionally strong. It would take even the Dream Lord a full minute to pull them into the dreamscape.

Originally, the Mad King and the others felt that one minute was too long, but now it didn’t seem like a big deal at all.

SWOOSH!

On the other side, the surgeon seized an opportunity. His sharp blade sliced through the air and cut into Tang Ling’s arm, severing it completely. Yet, no blood flowed out. As if it were a toy building block, Tang Ling casually picked up the arm and reattached it.

As the surgeon stared in shock, Tang Ling threw a tiny punch. Accompanied by a tremendous BANG and a burst of five-pointed stars, the surgeon’s face caved in as he was sent flying backward. He crashed heavily into the side of a building, then slid down the wall like a liquid before puddling on the ground.

Tang Ling then pulled a giant, red-and-blue horseshoe magnet from behind her back. A visible magnetic field radiated from it, yanking the scalpel right out of the surgeon’s hand.

The Water God and the Cherub arrived on the scene. The Water God generated a torrent of water that enveloped the surgeon. The Cherub, meanwhile, materialized a book with a snow-white cover. He opened it toward the surgeon, and a frigid blizzard roared out, instantly freezing him solid.

Inside the block of ice, the surgeon twitched a few times, trying to break free, but it was useless. Without his scalpel, he had no medium through which to channel his Authority.

‘In a way, this True God is even worse off than a Tier One Ascender. At least they can use their Abilities whenever they want…’

The minute passed quickly. An overwhelming drowsiness washed over them. The Dream Lord broke through the mental barriers of the surgeon and the masochist, and they both closed their eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

“That was… unbelievably easy?”

Everyone found it hard to believe. It had been as easy as a walk in the park.

“Mission complete. Begin containment procedures.”

Tang Ling produced an Any Door from behind her back and opened it. A group of fully-equipped scholars emerged. They fitted the two sleeping True Gods with special devices, placed them into containment pods, and carried them away. Several more teams followed, carrying various instruments to begin follow-up exploration and investigation of the Divine War Ruins.

“Our job here is done. Pack it up, let’s move out.”

「Stars Association Headquarters, Eighth District.」

Ma Youcai, Mizuhara Eriko, and another female civilian Transcendent named Qin Yan were being temporarily held in a laboratory.

Zhang Tao and Zhou Chen rushed over.

“Zhou Chen?”

The woman named Qin Yan widened her eyes upon seeing the two men. Pointing at Zhou Chen in astonishment, she asked, “What are you doing here?”

Zhou Chen was even more stunned. “You know me?”

*Stare—*

Nearby, Tang Ling’s gaze instantly sharpened.
