Chapter 3398

Amid the thunderous roar of the lightning strike, Ye Liuyun took the thunder tribulation head-on with his physical body. He was wearing clothes formed from his Gilded Armor, so they were not destroyed outright by the strike.

But Luan Ping and the Alliance elders gathered around to watch all shrank back in fright.

“This thunder tribulation is way too powerful!”

“When we undergo our tribulations, we’ll definitely have to use treasures. Otherwise, there’s no way we could withstand them!”

Several elders discussed it among themselves, assuming this was what thunder tribulation normally looked like.

This five-colored thunder tribulation did not look as terrifying as blood lightning or black lightning, but its power was astonishing, shaking even the ground beneath them.

When they looked at Ye Liuyun again, he was completely unharmed, prompting several elders to sigh in admiration:

“As expected of a ruthless man like the Alliance Leader. He actually withstood such powerful thunder tribulation with his physical body!”

“Exactly. He didn’t use any treasures or other powers to resist it!”

But what happened next astonished them even more.

Seeing how easily Ye Liuyun had withstood its first attack, the Lightning Spirit struck down the second bolt of thunder tribulation directly with its lightning essence.

The second bolt looked much smaller than the first, but its power had at least doubled.

Ye Liuyun merely smiled at the Lightning Spirit and once again took it head-on with his physical body. This time, however, he did not let it go to waste. After withstanding the strike, he absorbed the lightning essence into his body and had his own Lightning Spirit refine it.

When the Lightning Spirit saw that Ye Liuyun was still smiling at it, it cursed inwardly: “How does this brat seem to have gotten even stronger? He took a bolt of lightning essence with his physical body and didn’t even react.

But don’t get cocky. The thunder tribulation will only grow stronger with each bolt. Even if it can’t kill you, it’ll at least peel off a layer of your skin and show you what I’m capable of!”

It immediately began condensing the third bolt of thunder tribulation.

Each time it struck Ye Liuyun, it took a long time to condense the thunder tribulation. Thunder rumbled in the sky for quite a while before another bolt of lightning essence finally came crashing down.

This time, the lightning essence was twice as powerful as the previous one.

“Twice the power? That’s nowhere near enough!”

Ye Liuyun deliberately spoke with contempt before once again taking it head-on with his physical body.

With a sharp crack, the lightning slammed into Ye Liuyun, making his Gilded Armor smoke.

But Ye Liuyun still withstood it with his physical body. This time, he felt only a slight numbness throughout his body, nothing particularly intense.

“It really feels great to have such a powerful body!” Even Ye Liuyun could not help sighing inwardly.

He had not actually used the Gilded Armor, merely worn it as clothing to keep his own clothes from being destroyed by the lightning. Otherwise, breaking through into the Voidworld stark naked would have made him a laughingstock in front of everyone.

Ye Liuyun’s Lightning Spirit immediately absorbed the lightning essence he had withstood.

The fourth, fifth, and sixth bolts of thunder tribulation followed, each one carrying twice the previous bolt’s power. By the time Ye Liuyun withstood the sixth bolt, his entire body was trembling from the electric shock.

However, he could feel that lightning strikes of this intensity were causing his physical body to fuse together even more tightly. Thus, he still did not use any other power, intending to continue enduring them with his physical body.

But when it came to the seventh bolt of thunder tribulation, the Lightning Spirit took even longer to nurture it, directly condensing twice as much lightning essence in an attempt to catch Ye Liuyun off guard with a single strike.

“You’re going a little too far now!” Ye Liuyun muttered softly.

In truth, he could still withstand thunder tribulation of this level. However, he was worried that if its power continued doubling like this, and the Lightning Spirit struck him twenty or thirty times, he might have great difficulty resisting the final few strikes. By then, the power of the thunder tribulation would exceed this world’s limits.

But the Lightning Spirit thought Ye Liuyun was afraid. It became even more pleased with itself and struck down the lightning essence it had condensed.

Ye Liuyun gritted his teeth. “Fine. I’ll take this one head-on too!”

With a booming crack, Ye Liuyun’s entire body trembled violently from the impact, and he was nearly blasted to the ground by the thunder tribulation. A trace of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.

The lightning essence inside his body, however, was delighted. That single strike had made his Lightning Spirit considerably stronger. The same was true of his God of War Armor. Although he did not use it to defend against the lightning, the armor endured the strikes right alongside him while he took them head-on.

After obtaining the new ore, Ye Liuyun had also allowed the armor to absorb quite a bit of it. Now, after being tempered by the lightning, it would soon be able to advance to a higher grade once more.

Ye Liuyun wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and continued looking up at the Lightning Spirit, waiting to see how much lightning essence it could condense next.

“Twice the power again?”

Ye Liuyun could only smile bitterly to himself.

He had originally thought that since this was his tribulation, the more of it he endured, the greater the benefit to him. But now it seemed that the Lightning Spirit clearly had no intention of letting him off easily.

After the power of this level of five-colored lightning essence had been doubled repeatedly, it was about to be doubled yet again. If he continued taking it head-on with his physical body, he would probably suffer serious injuries.

“What are you afraid of? You have tribulation fluid to heal you after you’re injured!” the Book Demon also urged him to withstand it head-on.

“But what if the Lightning Spirit doesn’t stop after nine bolts? What if it keeps striking me afterward?” Ye Liuyun was worried that the Lightning Spirit would keep going endlessly.

But the Book Demon smiled. “If that happens, you can destroy it. Once your Lightning Spirit absorbs some more lightning essence, it’ll be stronger than that one.”

“Uh... If I destroy it, can I still go to the Voidworld?” Ye Liuyun was worried that using too much force would cost him his chance to enter the Voidworld.

“Do you really think the Lightning Spirit would rather let you destroy it than stop opposing you?” the Book Demon retorted.

Ye Liuyun thought about it and realized that since he had been able to negotiate with the Lightning Spirit last time, it clearly possessed intelligence. And anything with intelligence should fear death.

Once he had figured that out, he stopped worrying. He would continue using his physical body to withstand the lightning, and when he could no longer do so, he would use his own Lightning Spirit to block it. If the Lightning Spirit truly insisted on killing him, he would have no choice but to strike first.

After thunder rumbled ominously in the sky for quite some time, the lightning finally came crashing down again.

This time, Ye Liuyun was completely blasted to the ground by the Lightning Spirit, his entire body convulsing from the electricity. However, he had suffered no serious injuries on the surface. Only a thin layer of his skin was slightly charred, while a few cracks appeared inside his body before quickly healing.

Afterward, Ye Liuyun stood up again.

By then, Luan Ping and the Alliance elders had already retreated far away. The previous bolt of thunder tribulation had sent five-colored lightning spraying in every direction, and they were all afraid of being caught up in it.

“Luan Ping, why isn’t your master using any other power to resist this thunder tribulation?”

“If the power of the next bolt doubles again, how does your master plan to withstand it?”

Several elders could not help asking Luan Ping these questions.

Luan Ping could only shake his head. He did not know what Ye Liuyun had in mind either. However, he had confidence in his master and knew that Ye Liuyun would definitely make it through.

At that moment, the Lightning Spirit in the sky became even more pleased with itself.

“Hahaha, brat, you finally can’t take it anymore, can you? I’ll give you an even harsher one!”
