Chapter 300: Chapter 286: These Two Scholars Are Incompetent (Part 2)
Then, for some reason, she mumbled under her breath,
"Dad would probably like this, right?"
Lloyd was busy fiddling with the monocle, which was uncomfortable no matter how he wore it. He didn’t quite catch what she said, so he asked,
"Hm? What was that, Weiya?"
"N-nothing. I just think it looks better than your uniform... Anyway, if you don’t like the monocle, don’t wear it. Just put it in your breast pocket, but remember to leave the chain showing."
As she spoke, Weiya reached out to put the monocle away for Lloyd, then straightened his collar. She looked just like a gentle and doting young wife getting her husband ready.
Then, the two of them walked hand in hand to a hospital—or rather, a psychological clinic—in the Central District.
Two scholars with graying hair and beards were already waiting for them. When they saw Weiya and Lloyd arrive, they greeted them with effusive pleasantries, served them tea, and made small talk for nearly half an hour before finally getting down to business.
’So this so-called "consolidating the effects of Transcendence" starts with my mental state and psychological health?’
The two scholars took turns asking Lloyd all sorts of questions. Then they performed a very formal psychological evaluation, shining a flashlight in his eyes, having him look at color blindness test plates, and so on.
Lloyd went along with it normally, but his final results weren’t great. The two of them actually rated him as ’Mental Risk Level 3,’ meaning he had a relatively high chance of entering a state of ’Mild Madness.’
This risk level wasn’t actually that serious. In fact, in the profession of Extraordinary Beings, where everyone was a little bit mad, it was considered quite healthy.
After all, even Weiya was in a state of [Mild Madness], and wasn’t she still beautiful, elegant, generous, and utterly lickable?
The two scholars earnestly advised Lloyd to pay attention to relaxing and adjusting his mindset. He shouldn’t push himself too hard and should learn to self-regulate. They also said it would be best if he visited the Priests at the church every two or three days to have them help guide him.
But Lloyd was still a bit dissatisfied. ’I have the persona of a reserved, rational, and steady young man. How could there be anything wrong with my mental state?’
He suspected these two scholars weren’t very skilled...
’How could I possibly be crazy? Impossible!’
After completing this formal mental evaluation, the two scholars finally got to the main event. They each took one of Lloyd’s wrists and released a bit of their inspiration, wanting to check his physical condition.
Since Lloyd offered no resistance and his whole body was relaxed, their inspiration easily permeated his body.
Then, the expressions on their faces froze for a moment, and their gazes became slightly dazed.
About two or three seconds later, they hastily let go of Lloyd’s wrists as if they had been scalded by boiling water.
"Hiss— Such powerful inspiration! Are you really only Tier Three?"
one scholar asked, bewildered.
The other scholar stated helplessly,
"With inspiration this strong, there’s no way for us to conduct the follow-up examination!"
Lloyd answered each point in turn.
"I really am only Tier Three. See? There are no power fluctuations coming from my body... As for the examination, are there really no other methods besides using inspiration?"
"That’s not the case. Please wait a moment."
One of the scholars said this and ran to a nearby cabinet to rummage through it. He finally pulled out a crystal ball the size of a large bowl and gestured for Lloyd to hold it and continuously channel Spiritual Power into it until they told him to stop.
As he spoke, the other scholar took out a stopwatch and signaled for Lloyd to begin.
Lloyd did as he was told and began channeling Spiritual Power into the Crystal Ball.
The originally crystal-clear, completely transparent Crystal Ball suddenly filled with an ominous, deathly gray color. A unique spiral pattern appeared within it, but it vanished in a flash, replaced by a normal, pale blue.
Because Lloyd’s hand was covering it, none of the three people present, including Lloyd himself, noticed this change. He continued to channel Spiritual Power into it.
And so, after another two seconds, the Crystal Ball suddenly made a faint cracking sound, as if it was about to give out.
"Stop!"
The scholar with the stopwatch quickly shouted for him to stop. He then checked the time, took the Crystal Ball from Lloyd’s hand, and held it under the light to examine it closely.
Inside, the originally uniform structure now had several ’snowflakes’—a sign of internal fractures.
"Only three seconds passed... Such powerful Spiritual Power! Are you really only Tier Three?"
The scholar couldn’t help but repeat his earlier question.
"Er... Is there something wrong with that?"
Lloyd asked with a shrug, a look of innocence on his face.
At the same time, he was a little worried. ’They’re not going to make me pay for this, are they?’
"Something wrong with it? You..."
The scholar trailed off, at a loss for words, but the other one stepped in to explain,
"The young mistress of the Land family waiting for you outside—her third [Transcendence] was, with our help, practically perfect. The results were far better than many of her Tier Three peers... But do you know how long it took her to make the crystal show signs of damage during this test?"
"How long?"
"Five minutes..."
"Er... well... I come from a humble background, after all. I don’t have her family’s resources, so I just have to work a little harder."
"No, Lord Lloyd, I’m afraid this can’t be explained by hard work... Your Spiritual Power and inspiration far, far exceed the average for a Tier Three. It’s completely beyond the realm of common sense and certainly can’t be explained away by ’hard work.’ You might as well just say there’s a problem with our test Crystal Ball."
"Okay, then your Crystal Ball has a problem."
"You..."
That scholar was choked speechless by Lloyd’s retort. The other one quickly jumped in to help.
"That’s not it, Lord Lloyd. Did you take some kind of potion before coming here? Or perhaps activate some kind of Holy Artifact? It must be the latter, right? I can indeed feel the Spiritual Energy of a Holy Artifact on you...
"So I must advise you, our tests are meant to help you. There’s no need to cheat just to save face or prove something to us."
"But I didn’t cheat."
Lloyd didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He shrugged, held out his hands, and asked,
"Have you really never seen a young man as exceptional as me before?"
This time, both scholars were left completely speechless.
In the end, the two of them just gave up and changed their tune.
"Fine... Since you’re so insistent, our evaluation for today is concluded. We will give our follow-up development plan and recommendations to Miss Weiya and ask her to pass them on to you."
Seeing that the two of them were ready to wash their hands of the matter, Lloyd wasn’t angry at all. In fact, he was quite pleased.
"It’s over already? Great, great, that was pretty quick."
He had actually already grown impatient with the whole ordeal. It was a rare chance for a date with Weiya, but he’d ended up stuck with two old codgers. He’d wanted to leave for a while now, so he stood up, ready to go.
Besides, he had long suspected these two old guys weren’t academically skilled and were probably just undeserving of their reputations.
The two scholars hadn’t expected Lloyd to be so decisive. They glanced at each other, hesitating, wondering if they should call him back.
’After all, this was a task commissioned by the young mistress of the Land family. It probably wouldn’t be good to be so perfunctory, right?’
But Lloyd didn’t give them a chance to stop him; he just left.
When he got to the main hall outside, he saw Weiya sitting on a nearby sofa with her legs crossed, reading a magazine.
Under the light, the black silk stockings on her thighs reflected a sweet, intoxicating texture that looked exceptionally lickable.
When Weiya saw Lloyd come out so quickly, she asked, a little puzzled,
"Oh? Why are you done so soon?"
"Because my [Transcendence] was quite effective and very solid, so there wasn’t much to consolidate... Anyway, let’s go."
Lloyd said casually, pulling Weiya up to leave.
Although Weiya was a little hesitant, deep down, she definitely wanted to spend more time with Lloyd, so she didn’t say anything and let him lead her away.
