Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 329 Reuben's Decision

Kyran cleared his throat. He was the one who altered Tritus’s character and had seen bits and pieces of his memories. There were far too many things Tritus had wanted to do that Kyran could somehow relate to, except their motives were different.

Everything Kyran wanted to do was to save his clan, while Tritus wanted to rule over the world.

“Going back to the topic,” he said shifting their conversation back on track.

Tritus nodded and replied, ” Apologies master. In addition to my answer, I think I may have an idea why you are hesitant.

“Max is an honest man, and he genuinely respects the dragons.”

Kyran sighed after hearing Tritus. He already knew that and hoped Max would not affect his acceptance of the Sigil once he found out Kyran was not a dragon.

“I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but I am not a real dragon,” Kyran said.

Tritus raised his brows and replied, “Whether you are a real one or not, the fact you can use their magic is enough to gain our respect master.”

Kyran’s brow twitched, he did not plan to alter Tritus’s character and make him a fanatic.

“I have something I want Max to do, but I don’t want to force him,” he said and looked at Reuben on the floor. “I am thinking of showing my sincerity by not forcing someone he looked highly upon to become my Sigil.”

“Hm. I understand where you are coming from,” Tritus replied with a nod. “But, master, Max also respected Freya and you’ve killed her.”

Kyran shrugged, “She hurt Zephyr, she had to pay for that.”

“Master…” Zephyr’s eyes turned teary-eyed after hearing Kyran’s reply. Recalling his master’s little souvenir earlier, touched him.

“As expected of our master. Following you is the best thing that happened to me,” Tritus also agreed.

“Okay that is enough,” Kyran interrupted the two before they started spouting cringy praises. “I want you to convince Reuben to submit to me Tritus.”

“Of course, master. I will do what must be done,” Tritus replied.

“No need.”

A voice suddenly spoke.

Both Tritus and Zephyr looked at Reuben who had already stirred awake and tried to get up.

The truth, Kyran had already sensed him stir awake. But he did not change the conversation because he wanted him to hear the truth.

Reuben managed to change into a sitting position and as soon as he looked up and saw Kyran, he felt his heart skip a beat.

Kyran’s physical features were too evident it was impossible not to know who he was.

“You are a Regis..!” Reuben exclaimed in surprise.

“I am.”

Kyran replied not planning to hide it from him. Besides he would have to tell the truth anyway

“Rumors have it that the Regis Blessing can make a Regis use dragon’s magic andโ€”.”

“I’ll have to stop you there,” Kyran cut him midsentence as black lines appeared on his forehead. “Let’s not talk about the rumors and get right to the point.”

He looked Reuben in the eye and said, “You know my intentions, what do you think?”

Reuben did not reply but instead looked at Tritus.

It was not his first time seeing Tritus, but each time he did, he could count on one hand the times he had spoken to him.

Tritus still looked as domineering as ever, however, the fact that he stood respectfully a few steps behind Kyran said a lot. It should be noted that he would never let others stand in front of him. It was not because he trusted the people standing from behind, but because, he did not want others ‘blocking’ his path.

Reuben had always been an intelligent person. He could easily see the right path he could take to get better chances of survival. If surviving meant escaping, he would do it. It was for this reason that he left Max to deal with the masked man earlier.

He knew the ‘unmasked’ young man before could easily kill him. And the only chance for survival was to act ‘agreeable.’

Speaking of the unmasked young man, Reuben looked at him once more and felt mixed emotions. He had not expected that the masked man who possessed such frightening strength was a Regis and looked very young. They had heard stories of a Regis’s strength but never in his wildest imagination did he view their strength could easily wreck a thousand Templar Code members where most were Masters and High Masters, not to mention having two Grand Masters and one Exalted.

Then Reuben recalled why this young man had done it and turned to look at the youngest one among them.

It did not take him long to associate him with the huge Quilin they had been after. From the color of the boy’s hair and strange clothing, it was obvious he was the Quilin in human form.

This prompted several questions in Reuben’s head.๐’๐‘ฃ๐—…xt.๐“’๐‘‚๐“‚

“You have questions, I get that. I can answer all of them if you swear your allegiance to me,” Kyran told him after noticing Reuben’s thoughtful expression.

Reuben did not reply at once. He only looked at him in silence as his brain was wracked with different scenarios of what might happen if he agreed or disagreed.

Kyran, on the other hand, did not mind waiting. Reuben was still tied and could only sit there and ponder anyway.

“You did not kill Max,” Reuben finally said after a few minutes.

It was not a question. Based on the conversation he heard as he stirred awake, he already confirmed Max was alive.

With a short nod, Kyran said, “I still have use for him.”

Reuben immediately frowned.

“Do you spare people based on their worth?” He asked.

“Depends,” Kyran replied dismally. “I can also spare people without worth as long as they don’t touch my people.”

As soon as he said this, Reuben automatically looked at the boy standing a few steps behind him.

Kyran followed his gaze and he said, “Right. Let me introduce you.”

He gestured toward Zephyr, “This is Zephyr. The Quilin your leader had almost killed because of the fatal attack she did.”

Zephyr looked at Kyran with a slight scowl, “You make me sound like a weakling, master.”

“That’s your opinion,” Kyran replied as he turned to look at Reuben.

“So… that Quilin can also change into a humanโ€” no, that is not right. You are not a dragon that can change into a human form,” Reuben said, sounding a little unsure.

Kyran nodded and said, “That’s right. Zephyr is one of my people, so if you plan on chastising me for killing your leader then forget it. Your bossโ€”,” he pointed toward Tritus, “โ€”tried that and looked at him now.”

Tritus lowered his head toward Kyran and commented, “I am very much honored to become your Sigil, master. If I get a chance to go back in time, I will do it again if it means I will end up becoming your Sigil.”

“Right, right,” Kyran waved his hand dismally at him. He was now considering altering Tritus’s character again.

One Byron was enough, to be honest.

Seeing his boss acting like this made Reuben break out in cold sweat. Never in his life did he imagine, that one day he would see Tritus like this.

“I…” Reuben began after a short pause. “Would like to see Max.”

“No,” Kyran rejected his request at once.

When he saw Reuben’s brow furrowed, Kyran added, “Max needs to rest. I… admit I’ve been a little rough on him.”

Zephyr’s brow twitched as he heard Kyran add the word ‘little’ in his words. As far as he was concerned, Kyran did not know how to act a ‘little’ rough.

“All the more that I have to see him!” Reuben insisted, “Only when I am sure he is alive that I will agree to become your Sigil.”

Kyran raised his brows after hearing Reuben’s terms. In the first place, when he asked him to swear his allegiance, he was not talking about becoming his Sigil. At most, he would place a mark on him similar to Olivia.

“Are you sure you want to become my Sigil?” He asked.

“Isn’t that what you want to do?” Reuben asked in reply looking at him in confusion.

Kyran shook his head, “Nope. I know of other ways to ensure you won’t betray me. But if you become my Sigil, well…”

He looked at Zephyr and Tritus and said, “You will be like them and your life will be tied to mine. Are you fine with that?”

Kyran looked at Reuben once more.

“If Max is already your Sigil, then I don’t mind becoming one,” Reuben replied.

The truth, he and Max were not really that close. But after hearing Max looked highly upon him, he could not help but feel the need to repay the big guy’s respect. So far, the only way Reuben had thought of how to repay Max was to share the burden of becoming another Sigil to the young Regis.

“Alright,” Kyran agreed. If Reuben had decided to become his Sigil then who was he to reject? It was better to have this person become one of his Sigil, to be honest. At least, by being his Sigil, Kyran had better control over Reuben’s life and death.

“I’ll take you to where he is resting, but, I am warning you. Once you leave that place and you can’t change your mind, or else…”

Reuben felt his scalp go numb when he heard the young Regis say the last part. But since he had no plans on going back on his words, he nodded and said, “I understand.”

Kyran did not reply. Instead, he waved his hand and the ropes binding Reuben disappeared. Then his dark gray eyes turned dark purple and in an instant, a purple circle appeared underneath Reuben.

“This..!” Reuben exclaimed in surprise. Because he had sensed a different type of magic apart from the one the young Regis had used earlier from the circle. Apart from this, the latter did not use any arrays!

“Max is awake, but tell him to rest and not worry about his beasts. They are properly taken care of,” Kyran told Reuben before he disappeared within the purple circle.

Zephyr could not help but look at the disappearing purple circle curiously.

“Master, where exactly does that purple circle leads to? Is it back to the cottage?” He asked, thinking that it was a warping circle that he did not want to experience anytime soon.

“No,” Kyran replied with a slight smile.
