Konoha: Let's Just Destroy It
Chapter 59: I Heard Your Voice That Night
Sitting in the living room, Sasuke kept his head lowered without saying a word.
Uchiha Izumi brought out some snacks and milk to entertain him, but Sasuke didn’t touch any of them.
Seeing this, Naruto gestured to Uchiha Izumi, asking her to keep Sasuke company.
Naruto didn’t want to interfere with them, so he went into the kitchen to prepare dinner himself.
Naruto wasn’t particularly surprised that Sasuke had come over.
After the Uchiha massacre, apart from Sasuke himself, the only remaining Uchiha in the entire village was Uchiha Izumi.
It was only natural that Sasuke would come to see her.
Naruto didn’t have much dislike toward Sasuke.
In his eyes, Sasuke was simply a brat.
As someone with a mature mind, Naruto wouldn’t take things too seriously with children whose minds weren’t fully developed.
It was like dealing with the troublesome brats in the village.
Just teach them a lesson and be done with it!
Once they’d been beaten, that was the end of it. There was no need to hold a grudge.
Holding a grudge against a child was simply beneath him.
Of course, adult villagers were different.
They already possessed mature minds and should be responsible for their words and actions.
As Naruto entered the kitchen, he activated his sensory abilities.
Within his range, there were two ANBU.
Under normal circumstances, the ANBU wouldn’t specifically monitor Uchiha Izumi at night.
Neither Naruto nor Uchiha Izumi went outside at night, so the ANBU assigned to monitor Naruto handled the surveillance together.
A few days ago, during the massacre, Naruto had been at the academy, so the ANBU monitoring Uchiha Izumi had never changed shifts.
Now that the Uchiha clan had been exterminated, it was likely that even the ANBU monitoring Uchiha Izumi during the day would be withdrawn after some time.
After a brief analysis, Naruto understood that one of the two ANBU was probably monitoring Sasuke.
However, they were keeping their distance and had no intention of coming closer to eavesdrop.
They probably understood the situation.
It was also possible that they had already received instructions from the Third Hokage.
In the kitchen, Naruto stood on a small stool and rapidly chopped vegetables with a knife.
Slash, slash, slash!
Back in the living room, Sasuke’s expression finally changed.
He couldn’t help glancing toward the kitchen.
"It’s strange, isn’t it?
"It’s actually Naruto who usually cooks at home, and he’s even better at it than I am!
"Sasuke, stay here for dinner tonight and try Naruto’s cooking~!"
Uchiha Izumi had been struggling to find a way to start a conversation, so she finally invited him.
Uchiha Izumi didn’t dislike Sasuke either.
In the past, she had thought of him as a strange little brother who was always clinging to his older brother and whining.
Later, she simply hadn’t paid much attention to him.
And now, she wasn’t going to take out her hatred toward Uchiha Itachi on Sasuke.
At least she knew how to distinguish between the two.
Sasuke knew nothing.
He was both fortunate and pitiful.
Hearing Uchiha Izumi’s words, a gloomy expression appeared on Sasuke’s face.
Naruto could cook, yet he couldn’t.
A feeling of frustration rose in Sasuke’s heart once again.
The Sasuke of this world wasn’t the arrogant Sasuke from the original story.
He couldn’t compare with Naruto in taijutsu or ninjutsu.
His shuriken throwing was more flashy than Naruto’s, but his accuracy wasn’t as good.
His theoretical knowledge was better than Naruto’s, but Sasuke wasn’t even the top student in that area.
There was still another academic prodigy above him—
Sakura Haruno.
Sasuke could accept Naruto being stronger than him.
After all, Naruto was already better than him in almost every other subject.
It wasn’t as though losing in theoretical knowledge would make much difference.
But having his position taken by a civilian fangirl who did nothing but shout "Six! Six! Six!" was much harder for Sasuke to accept!
Overall, Sasuke was merely the academy’s perennial second-place student.
Whenever he got carried away, Naruto would beat him up.
There was simply no way for him to maintain his arrogance!
So Sasuke didn’t refuse the invitation.
He nodded.
Seeing this, Uchiha Izumi breathed a sigh of relief.
At least he had reacted.
The worst thing would have been if he hadn’t reacted at all.
The living room once again fell into a brief silence.
Uchiha Izumi tried several times to start a conversation, but Sasuke didn’t respond.
In the end, she gave up.
"Sasuke, sit here for a while.
"I’m going into the kitchen to help out. Just wait a little longer. It’ll be ready soon."
After leaving him with those words, Uchiha Izumi entered the kitchen to help.
Not disliking someone didn’t mean she liked them.
Uchiha Izumi had no reason to indulge him.
She simply treated Sasuke as an ordinary junior.
It was merely the basic courtesy an older member of the clan should show a junior.
Half an hour later.
"Dinner’s ready."
There wasn’t much food.
Most of it consisted of Chinese-style dishes prepared by Naruto.
Uchiha Izumi had also made some sushi, shrimp tempura, miso soup, and other dishes.
During dinner, Sasuke occasionally lost himself in thought.
He was probably remembering some things from the past.
Naruto and Uchiha Izumi both secretly sighed and shook their heads.
After dinner.
Sasuke sat in the living room, occasionally glancing at Uchiha Izumi.
He seemed to want to say something but couldn’t bring himself to speak.
Uchiha Izumi finally asked:
"Sasuke, is there something you want to tell me?"
Sasuke bit his lower lip.
"Can you tell me the truth behind the Uchiha massacre?"
Uchiha Izumi shook her head.
"I don’t know what happened that night either.
"Today, after you woke up, Lord Hokage finally confirmed that—"
She didn’t continue.
Sasuke understood what she meant.
Sasuke slowly raised his head and stared into Uchiha Izumi’s eyes.
"I heard your voice that night."
Sasuke remembered hearing Uchiha Izumi’s furious voice before he lost consciousness.
But he was afraid that his memory had become confused and that he might have mistaken the voice, so he had specifically come here to confirm it.
After hearing Uchiha Izumi speak throughout the evening, Sasuke was now completely certain.
The voice he had heard that night had indeed belonged to Uchiha Izumi.
He wasn’t particularly intelligent, but he could still make basic deductions.
Uchiha Izumi’s furious voice, combined with Aunt Hazuki’s death, allowed Sasuke to figure it out.
That night, Uchiha Izumi must have learned that Uchiha Itachi had killed Aunt Hazuki, which was why she had been so furious.
But if Uchiha Izumi had been at the clan district that night, why was she still alive?
Why hadn’t Uchiha Itachi killed her?
And why had the Third Hokage said that Uchiha Izumi survived because she hadn’t been at the clan district?
Was there some secret that couldn’t be revealed?
Did his older brother have some hidden reason for what he had done?
Hearing this, Naruto and Uchiha Izumi exchanged a glance.
Naruto secretly activated the Kagura Mind’s Eye, guarding against anyone eavesdropping.
Uchiha Izumi, meanwhile, asked in confusion:
"Did you hear it wrong, Sasuke?
"I know the Uchiha massacre has been very difficult for you, but—"
Sasuke pointed at his head, interrupting her.
"No.
"I heard it very clearly.
"My memory is extremely clear.
"At the time, you were shouting...
"Uchiha Itachi!"
He had just experienced Tsukuyomi and was trapped in fear and hatred.
Suddenly hearing a voice filled with fury had caused Sasuke to feel a sense of shared hatred.
He wasn’t alone.
There was someone else who hated Uchiha Itachi just as much as he did!
Hope even began to rise within Sasuke’s heart.
The hope of killing Uchiha Itachi and avenging his clan!
When a person falls into a desperate and dangerous situation, even the slightest glimmer of hope becomes a lifeline they desperately cling to.
That was why, even now, Sasuke’s memory remained incredibly clear.
