Chapter 327: Facing a Formidable Foe, There Is Only Battle
The battle between Che Dagui and Zhe Ye seemed to be just a duel between the two camps’ strongest Cultivators. In reality, it was a fight for the morale of their respective armies.
If Che Dagui lost, the morale of the Eastern Domain’s defenders would surely plummet. Likewise, if Zhe Ye were defeated, the same would hold true for the Northern Domain.
As the fight dragged on, Zhe Ye gradually probed the limits of Che Dagui’s Martial Techniques, and Che Dagui’s decline became increasingly apparent.
Although Che Dagui could fight opponents of a higher Realm, the gap between the two of them was simply too vast. It was not something his High Tier Martial Techniques and weapon could bridge.
The two fought for more than a quarter of an hour. The area around them, a radius of several hundred feet, had become a vacuum so intense not a single drop of water could get in.
The hundreds of thousands of Soldiers on both sides stared up at the battle in the sky, their breathing slowing to a crawl.
For the vast majority of these hundreds of thousands of people, a Peak battle between Void Realm experts was a once-in-a-lifetime sight.
Having completely figured out the patterns of Che Dagui’s Nine-Section Whip, Zhe Ye suddenly roared. He swung his great saber, and the Saber Aura surged forth like crashing waves, one cresting over the next. It carried an unstoppable momentum, rolling toward Che Dagui in layer upon layer.
Che Dagui sensed at once that the power of this attack was far beyond his ability to withstand.
He was already prepared to self-detonate. He threw his head back and bellowed, “People of the Eastern Domain, listen well! Even in defeat, we will make these invaders pay a price with our very lives! Let our actions show every enemy that the blood of an Eastern Domain man always runs hot!”
Zhe Ye must have anticipated Che Dagui’s plan, and he hastily retreated.
But at that exact moment, Chu Fan, who had been watching from nearby, finally made his move.
He teleported close in an instant, striking Che Dagui’s back with his palm and forcefully halting his self-detonation.
“Stand down. He’s not worth you blowing yourself up.”
Hearing Chu Fan’s voice, the tension in Che Dagui’s body instantly drained away. Before he could even speak, Chu Fan sent him back to the top of the city wall with a flick of his sleeve.
“Kid, you dare interfere in a battle between Void Realm experts?” Zhe Ye, who had been halfway through his retreat, heard no explosion behind him. He turned to see Chu Fan sending Che Dagui back to the city wall with a flick of his sleeve.
The Soldiers on both sides stared at the suddenly-appeared Chu Fan with shock and uncertainty.
“Is a battle between Void Realm experts supposed to be impressive? Anyone who dares to invade my Great Xia, I don’t care if they’re in the Void Realm or even the Saint Realm, will find it a one-way trip.” Chu Fan spoke with indifference, his hands clasped behind his back.
Though his voice was quiet, the hundreds of thousands of Soldiers on both sides could hear him with perfect clarity.
Hearing this, Zhe Ye burst out laughing. “You people from the Eastern Domain have no skills to speak of, but your mouths are all tough as nails. Very well, I shall kill you first. When the city falls, I will bathe it in blood.”
“Is that right?” Chu Fan replied, his tone still detached. “You won’t even have a chance to lift your saber. Do you believe that?”
Zhe Ye listened, a mocking smile still on his face, and went to raise his saber.
But before he could even lift his saber, a black shadow flickered before his eyes. His vision shot upward, and from his new vantage point, he saw a headless body floating in the air below. He saw the arrogant young man, whose hands had been empty a moment ago, now holding a battered Long Sword, its blade dripping with blood.
In that instant, the Soldiers below all cried out in shock.
Just moments ago, they had witnessed Zhe Ye’s tyrannical might. Yet, facing this young man, Zhe Ye hadn’t even managed to raise his saber. All anyone saw was a blur, and in the blink of an eye, Zhe Ye’s head was sent flying into the sky.
Hearing the gasps, Zhe Ye finally realized the headless corpse he was looking at was his own.
A geyser of blood erupted from the neck of the headless corpse as it plummeted toward the ground. Before his vision went black, he watched the world rush up to meet him. The moment his head hit the dirt, he lost all consciousness.
“Lord Zhe Ye!”
“How dare you!”
From the Northern Domain camp, two figures shot into the sky simultaneously, charging ferociously toward Chu Fan.
Facing two Void Realm Cultivators—Martial Artists whose Realms were several tiers higher than his own—Chu Fan showed not a shred of fear.
Instead, he surged forward to meet them.
As they watched Chu Fan charge toward them, the two Void Realm experts suddenly felt a pang of regret.
But it was too late.
With the Second Layer of Wind Thunder Escape, he could cross several hundred yards in the blink of an eye.
With the Sword of Time, a single instant was long enough for Chu Fan to execute four stances of the Dream-Breaking Meteor Sword.
The Soldiers below saw only two shadows collide. There was no earth-shattering explosion, no dazzling exchange of blows.
They only saw the two blurs touch, followed by a flash of blinding light, seemingly more brilliant than the sun itself, that vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Then, two figures plummeted from the sky. Only the young man remained, standing proudly in midair, his Sword held behind him with its tip pointing down.
‘This is the first time I’ve used the Sword of Time against an enemy, and the results are undeniably glorious. Three Void Realm experts: one Tier Seven, one Tier Five, and one Tier Three.’
‘They were completely helpless. No, it’s more accurate to say they died without ever realizing what happened.’
The battlefield fell instantly silent, so quiet you could almost hear a roar carried on the wind.
After a long moment, the Great Xia side erupted in a cheer that shook the heavens.
On the Northern Domain’s side, countless people stared with wide, incredulous eyes at the young man floating in the air before them.
Mo Tuo, as the army’s commander, was the first to react. Though he found it hard to believe, he immediately grabbed a Curved Bow, nocked a Profound-Breaking Arrow, and fired it at Chu Fan.
As a Void Realm expert, Chu Fan instantly sensed the killing intent.
“Celestial Dragon Armor!” he murmured.
A suit of black Battle Armor materialized around him, complete with an exquisite helmet covering his head.
The Profound-Breaking Arrow arrived in an instant. It struck the Battle Armor with a sharp CLANG, lost all momentum, and fell. Chu Fan casually waved his hand, catching the arrow.
His gaze shot toward Mo Tuo like a bolt of lightning.
“So this is all a Northern Domain general amounts to,” Chu Fan scoffed. “Besides sending Cultivators out as cannon fodder, do you only know how to shoot people in the back?”
“Cultivators of Great Xia, hear my command!” Chu Fan roared, raising his Juntian Sword.
“SIR!”
From within Beisui City, countless Cultivators shot into the sky.
“Follow me into the enemy ranks! We will annihilate the invaders! Do you feel any fear?” Chu Fan shouted, pointing his Sword at the Northern Domain camp.
“We fear nothing!” the Cultivators roared in unison.
Chu Fan’s arrival was a powerful shot of adrenaline for the Eastern Domain. Though no one besides Che Dagui recognized him, they all knew he was one of them. And that was enough.
“Open the gates! Cavalry, follow me and destroy the enemy!” a Commanding General of the Great Xia Kingdom bellowed from the city wall.
The city gates groaned open, and thousands of cavalry charged out.
“Form ranks!” Mo Tuo hurriedly commanded.
Just moments ago they had been the attackers, but now they were forced to defend.
The moment the Profound-Breaking Arrow was stopped by Chu Fan’s Armor, Mo Tuo knew that any hope of victory had all but vanished.
Yet he didn’t dare order a retreat, lest he be punished for it.
He could only brace himself and fight…
