Chapter 326: The Great Battle Outside Beisui City Begins
“General Mo Tuo, the Eastern Domain is a barren land. Even if we conquer it, the gains won’t be worth the losses for our Northern Domain. I don’t understand why the Southern Garden King is willing to pay such a high price to attack the Eastern Domain.”
The speaker was a Cultivator, his tone filled with disdain for the Eastern Domain.
Of the dozen or so people present, he also had the highest Cultivation: Void Realm Tier Seven.
With such a level of Cultivation, he would be respected as a Grandmaster anywhere in the world.
To a Grandmaster like him, the Eastern Domain was indeed a barren land. After all, among the former Six Sects and Eight Gates of the Eastern Domain, a single Void Realm Tier One Cultivator was considered the Stabilizing Needle of their Sect.
For Cultivators, what else could such an Eastern Domain be but a barren land?
General Mo Tuo, seated in the seat of honor, placed his hands on his knees. He spoke in his uniquely gruff voice, “Grandmaster Zhe Ye, logically, none of us has the right to question the Great King’s command. But to stabilize the army’s morale, I’ll tell you the reason. Seven years ago, the Great King’s youngest brother led a group into a Secret Realm and never came out; even the Teleportation Array shattered. A few months ago, someone informed the Great King that his brother died in that Secret Realm at the hands of someone from the Eastern Domain.”
“General, the Great King is launching a full-scale invasion of the Eastern Domain based on a single person’s testimony? Isn’t that a bit reckless?” Zhe Ye said.
Mo Tuo waved his hand. “No, no, no. Given the Great King’s character, how could he be so rash? After learning of this, he sent men to the Eastern Domain to investigate. There’s an eighty percent chance it’s true. The only problem is that the little wretch from the Eastern Domain died in the Hua Xu Secret Realm, so now there’s no one left to question.”
“Since the culprit is already dead, what’s the point of all this?”
“The people of the Eastern Domain aren’t even as good as those ‘two-legged sheep’ from the Central Domain. And while the Eastern Domain is barren and unsuitable for you Cultivators, it still has a population of over a billion, with endless wealth and countless fair-skinned, beautiful women. Our purpose here isn’t occupation. It’s to teach the people of the Eastern Domain a lesson—to make them understand that for offending our Northern Domain, they will all pay a sufficient price, even if the main culprit is already dead. The Great King has already instructed me: once we breach the Eastern Domain, we only need to offer thirty percent of the plundered wealth and women to the Royal Court. The rest is ours to keep.”
Upon hearing this, everyone grew incredibly excited.
A burly, middle-aged general boomed, “General, you should have told us this sooner! We might have already taken the city by now.”
Mo Tuo looked a bit awkward. The reason he hadn’t said anything at first was that he had his own calculations. He had figured their grand army could launch a surprise attack on the Eastern Domain and win with ease. Who would have thought they’d encounter such tough resistance, suffering heavy casualties without even taking the city.
To him, the Eastern Domain was insignificant. This was why their Northern Domain frequently raided the Central Domain but had never bothered to attack the Eastern Domain.
The Eastern Domain was mountainous, which made troop movements difficult. Moreover, its wealth was worlds apart from the prosperity of the Central Domain.
The Cultivators could read the situation from his expression, but none of them said a word.
After all, Cultivators like them had been hired by the North Garden Great King at great expense to help. How to actually attack the city was still up to the generals.
“Everyone, let’s discuss our next plan of attack. The Great King had already arranged for agents in the city to contact some of the Noble Families for support, but it now seems those agents sent to the Eastern Domain are most likely dead. This insignificant Eastern Domain has defied the might of our Northern Domain time and again. We must deal them a heavy blow! When the time comes, the men will be our slaves and the women our maids. We will enslave them for generations to come!” Mo Tuo declared with a grand wave of his hand.
Inside the commander’s tent, after an hour of discussion, the battle began once more.
When the Northern Domain Soldiers heard that they could slaughter and pillage freely for three days after the city fell, each and every one of them flew into a frenzy.
Furthermore, this attack was different from the previous night’s. The army’s formation was much more disciplined, and three Void Realm experts each led several hundred Cultivators into the air, acting as the vanguard.
Countless arrows and Thunder Shocking Heavens rained down upon the city as if they were free.
Lan Bing was originally in command of Beisui City, but because he had suffered an arrow wound that was difficult to heal, Che Dagui had rushed over through the night to take over the city’s defense.
After more than a quarter of an hour of fighting, both sides had suffered casualties, and the Northern Domain Army pulled back about a mile.
Zhe Ye flew into the air and hovered there, shouting down at the city, “I am a Void Realm Grandmaster! I advise you all to open the gates and surrender at once. Our Northern Domain’s Wolf Army does not kill the weak. But if you remain obstinate, then after the city falls, the army will slaughter everyone within for three days!”
Hearing this, the eyes of the defenders on the city walls turned bloodshot, and they began to shout curses.
Che Dagui emerged from the crowd and flew into the air, and the two men stood facing each other in mid-air.
“Is the Void Realm so impressive? You Northern Domain bandits have mobilized such a force to invade a border town of my Great Xia. We, the soldiers and citizens of Great Xia, will defend our nation to the death. The people of my Eastern Domain have only heroes who die in battle, not cowards who surrender their cities. Save your breath. If you want a fight, then let’s fight!”
Zhe Ye laughed heartily. “A mere Void Realm Tier One dares to be so arrogant before me? In that case, I’ll kill you first!”
Judging by his appearance alone, no one would ever connect Che Dagui with a Cultivation Expert. After all, his figure was far too bloated.
But few knew that under Chu Fan’s command, the Eight Battle Generals, having received guidance from the Xiezhi and possessing Divine Bones, all had the ability to fight opponents of a higher realm.
Facing the attack Zhe Ye launched at him, Che Dagui met it head-on with a wave of his sleeve.
Facing a Void Realm Tier Seven opponent, Che Dagui knew in his heart he had no chance of victory. But with all eyes upon him, as the Stabilizing Needle of Beisui City, he could not show the slightest hint of retreat and disappoint the hopes of his soldiers and people.
Che Dagui’s weapon was a Nine-Section Whip given to him by the Xiezhi.
As he brandished the Nine-Section Whip, it moved like a spirit serpent. It was no exaggeration to say that with his current Combat Power, a single strike of the whip could topple the city walls.
A Divine Tier weapon and a Divine Tier Martial Technique, but in the end, his Realm was still somewhat lacking.
After engaging Zhe Ye, Che Dagui continuously brandished his Nine-Section Whip. Countless streams of Gang Qi raged forth, coiling toward Zhe Ye like spirit serpents.
Zhe Ye’s Qi Power was incredibly fierce and powerful, and his great saber was even more domineering.
The two clashed. Neither was injured, but the commotion they caused was no less intense than the one created by the tens of thousands of soldiers attacking the city for a quarter of an hour earlier.
Deafening booms echoed ceaselessly. Below them, the bodies that had not yet been cleared were shattered one after another by the overflowing True Qi.
After several exchanges, Zhe Ye was astonished to find that Che Dagui could actually withstand his attacks.
“No wonder you’re so arrogant. I didn’t expect a fatty like you to have the ability to fight above your realm. But in the Void Realm, the difference between each tier is like that between heaven and earth, let alone the full six tiers between us! No matter how stubbornly you resist, death is your only end!”
At this point, Che Dagui was indeed feeling the strain. Zhe Ye’s Cultivation was plain to see, and his attacks grew stronger with each move.
‘But I know that even if I can’t defeat this man, I have to stall for time and wait for Chu Fan to arrive.’
In truth, Chu Fan had already arrived right when Che Dagui and Zhe Ye began to fight. The reason he didn’t intervene immediately was that he also wanted to see what kind of Combat Power his eight generals possessed when facing a Cultivator of a higher realm.
He also wanted to see just how many Cultivators the Northern Domain had deployed, and whether there were any stronger than the Void Realm hiding within the army’s ranks.
