Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Hearing of the God Slaughter Hall Again
"I don’t understand what you mean, Young Master!" Wen Chan said hurriedly.
"You really don’t know what I mean?" Chu Fan chuckled and stood up from the bath.
He took out a bottle of Antiseptic Medicine and tossed it to Wen Chan. "Apply this for me. I’ll explain everything slowly."
Wen Chan’s expression was conflicted, but she gritted her teeth and walked over, immediately applying the medicine to Chu Fan’s mangled right arm.
"If I hadn’t been protecting you, I wouldn’t have received these injuries. Forget those men in black—even ten times their number couldn’t have laid a scratch on me. I don’t know what your organization is called, but I know you’re not a bad person at heart."
Wen Chan’s hand paused, but she said nothing. She continued applying the medicine, then used a nearby towel—originally meant for drying oneself—to bandage Chu Fan’s arm.
"My Spiritual Power is at Level 34. Do you know what that means? It means the music you played on the pipa earlier didn’t affect me at all," Chu Fan said softly.
"Young Master, I..."
Chu Fan waved a hand, cutting her off. He continued in a low voice, "You were a deeply embedded pawn. It’s a shame, really. Tonight, you were uprooted, and your objective wasn’t met. The Crown Prince isn’t that foolish."
"But you were also unlucky to run into me today. Otherwise, no one would have been able to answer your three questions, and you could have stayed at the Xi Jun Building."
"I truly do want to buy my freedom and live a normal life," Wen Chan said.
"I never doubted that. I could hear your helplessness and struggle in the sound of your xiao. Those twenty-eight words hidden within the jumbled characters were a true reflection of your heart. Combining that with your xiao melody, I could tell you genuinely want to find your parents."
"I beg for your mercy, Young Master!"
Wen Chan immediately fell to her knees.
"Get up. The sound of your xiao and those twenty-eight words saved you. Otherwise, no one would have left the Xi Jun Building alive tonight."
Wen Chan didn’t understand what he meant.
"The trail of bodies I left on the way here was the price of getting you out," Chu Fan said flatly.
Wen Chan’s face paled. Perhaps she understood what Chu Fan meant, or perhaps she didn’t.
"The Capital City has always been a dragon’s pool and a tiger’s den. Forget about your organization—even a Saint would have to follow the rules here."
"Don’t worry, it’s safe enough here. Not a single word of our conversation will get out."
Wen Chan’s expression was one of inner turmoil.
"I already have a wife, so you don’t need to fear what I might do to you. The reason I was interested in you, at first, was because..."
As he spoke, Chu Fan suddenly stopped. His gaze shifted toward the door. "You little thing. I knew you’d find your way here."
"Go open the door."
Wen Chan was puzzled. She hadn’t sensed anyone’s approach, yet Chu Fan had.
’It means he wasn’t lying about his Spiritual Power being Level 34.’
Wen Chan walked to the door and opened it, only to see a flash of white light.
She turned back to see Chu Fan holding a pure white fox.
"Close the door," Chu Fan said.
Wen Chan closed the door. For a moment, she thought about escaping, but the memory of Chu Fan’s combat prowess made her decisively abandon the idea.
"The reason I was interested in you, at first, was because of the Illusion Realm you created with your pipa. Although my Spiritual Power is already at Level 34, I’ve never systematically learned how to use it. Since I ran into you, and since you plan to leave your life as a courtesan, I wanted to talk. I never intended to take you for myself. I have a wife—we were childhood sweethearts and have been through life and death together. No matter how beautiful you are, I can control myself."
"Young Master, did you say everyone in my organization was captured and thrown into the Ministry of Justice Prison? Who exactly are you?"
"See? Talking to a clever person makes things much easier. You’ve already heard my name: Chu Fan. I’m from the Eastern Domain. I accidentally made it onto the Talent List, ranked eleventh. That’s my public identity. I came to the Capital City because I promised the Crown Prince I would accompany the Imperial Grandson into the Hua Xu Secret Realm. Stumbling upon your plot tonight was pure coincidence. Who’s to blame but you for being so famous!"
"Could it be that the young master who went to the Xi Jun Building with you was the Imperial Grandson?" Wen Chan asked in shock.
Chu Fan just smiled, not answering her question.
"Everything in the Capital City is under the Crown Prince’s watch. How could a little trick like yours escape his notice? So, do you really think you’d still be alive if I hadn’t brought you out? Just the fact that you used an Illusion Realm on so many people in those private rooms... Have you ever considered how many Court officials or sons of meritorious families were in there? If this were to leak, where would the Court save face? You were all simply asking to die."
"Did you think you were gathering blackmail material on those people? How naive!"
Wen Chan broke out in a cold sweat.
"Young Master, save me!"
"Don’t kneel! I’m not a fan of that," Chu Fan said, stopping her.
"Tell me. Your real name, and the name of the organization behind you. I might be able to help you break away from them for good."
"My name really is Wen Chan. I’ve long since forgotten the name my parents gave me. Our organization is called the Chaoyin Pavilion, and it’s a branch of the God Slaughter Hall. The Chaoyin Pavilion is composed entirely of girls. We were taken to the pavilion to be raised before we were even old enough for formal schooling. Once we came of age, we were sold to brothels."
"After being sold to the brothels, you’re left to your own devices. But when the organization contacts you, you have to obey their orders unconditionally and complete whatever mission they give you, right?" Chu Fan guessed.
’The God Slaughter Hall,’ Chu Fan was actually quite shaken himself. ’It seems their ambitions are not small!’
They appeared once ten years ago, heavily wounded the Piaoxue Palace, and stole the Profound Ice Bed.
For the past decade, it was as if they had vanished.
But now they’ve resurfaced, and their first move is to cause such a huge stir in the Capital City.
"You are wise, Young Master!"
"Alright, cut the flattery. Tell me, what was your objective this time?"
"To sow discord among some Court officials and use the opportunity to replace some of the people who were supposed to enter the Hua Xu Secret Realm. My mission was what I did tonight. I don’t know what comes next."
"Where is the Chaoyin Pavilion?"
"It’s in a cave somewhere, but I don’t know the exact location. The cave is massive; it’s like an entire mountain was hollowed out."
"What about the God Slaughter Hall?"
"I’ve only ever heard of it; I’ve never been there. When I was thirteen, I saw the God Slaughter Hall’s Left Protector once from a distance, but he was wearing a mask at the time."
"So you have no idea what the God Slaughter Hall is ultimately trying to do?" Chu Fan asked.
Wen Chan shook her head.
’I thought I’d finally found a clue about the God Slaughter Hall, but it was just getting my hopes up for nothing.’
Chu Fan could sense that he was destined to cross paths with the God Slaughter Hall in the future, and that they would inevitably be enemies.
Putting everything else aside, the mere fact that they had plotted against Leng Yingxue made it impossible for Chu Fan to ever befriend them. What’s more, they had stolen the Profound Ice Bed from Piaoxue Palace. In the future, he would definitely help Leng Yingxue deal with the God Slaughter Hall.
"Then tell me everything you know about the Chaoyin Pavilion in detail. For example, how many members it has, the Pavilion Master’s approximate Cultivation level and Spiritual Power, what they look like, which State Cities most of the members are assigned to, and so on. Just tell me everything you know."
