Chapter 268: Chapter 268: A Journey of Storms and Tribulations

The wind had not stopped, nor had the rain let up.

The slaughter continued.

Chu Fan didn’t know how many people he had killed. He only knew that countless men in black still surrounded him, and that he, too, was injured.

His right arm was drenched in blood. The constant drumming of the rain sent waves of pain through it. Blood streamed down his arm, over the base of his thumb, and onto his Iron Spear.

What his enemies didn’t know was that Chu Fan’s Dantian was different from other Martial Artists. His Dantian was a world unto itself, containing a lotus flower, a Primordial Spirit, and twelve Golden Cores. The True Qi and Spiritual Power it held was hundreds, even thousands of times greater than that of Cultivators at the same level.

This level of exertion, far from exhausting his True Qi, was actually allowing him to grow rapidly amidst the intense slaughter.

Was this siege by thousands not also a chance for Chu Fan to vent his frustrations without restraint?

Beneath the curtain of rain, many masters had already hidden themselves on the rooftops along both sides of the street, watching the spectacle unfold.

After Princess Long Yanying returned to the Eastern Palace, she immediately sent out her personal Guards. She herself hurried to find the Crown Prince.

She didn’t hide the fact that she, a princess, had disguised herself as a man to visit a brothel, and recounted the night’s events.

The Crown Prince, Long Jingyao, told her to sleep soundly, for the sky would not fall.

She trusted this father of hers completely. If he said the sky wouldn’t fall, then it truly wouldn’t.

Having been out all night, and with her pre-existing illness, she was already exhausted. She took her White Fox and went to sleep early.

But just as the heavy rain began to fall, the White Fox transformed into a streak of white light and shot out of the Eastern Palace.

The perimeter of the battle-torn street had long been completely sealed off by the Imperial Guard.

However, that group of Imperial Guards had no intention of intervening.

Only a few who considered their Cultivation higher than others dared to defy protocol, flying up to the rooftops to watch the fight.

An unknown amount of time passed. The torrential downpour gradually softened into a drizzle.

But the men in black surrounding Chu Fan seemed endless.

The ground behind him was already littered with corpses.

By now, every swing of Chu Fan’s Iron Spear was like a primal instinct. He no longer needed to consciously think about which move would inflict the most damage.

It was unknown how many different melodies Wen Chan had played on her xun.

All they could hear was the sound of the xun, with no other chaotic noises breaking through.

No matter how many enemies there were, under Chu Fan’s utterly overwhelming slaughter, the moment would eventually come when they were all killed.

When he cut down the last man in black, he leaned on his spear, gasping for breath as if his True Qi was completely depleted.

"You can stop and rest for a while now!" Chu Fan’s voice was clearly exhausted, his throat dry and hoarse.

Obediently, Wen Chan lowered her Jade Xun. When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by a scene straight out of Hell.

There were bodies everywhere—in front, behind, to the left and right—along with severed limbs. Rain washed over the blood, which flowed in streams across the ground.

She cried out in alarm.

Hearing her cry, Chu Fan just smiled without a word.

"Your arm?" Wen Chan said, her eyes fixed on Chu Fan’s mangled right arm.

Chu Fan shook his head. "It’s just a small wound. It’s nothing."

Wen Chan took out a handkerchief, wanting to wipe the blood from Chu Fan’s face, but he stopped her.

He set Wen Chan down.

Wen Chan seemed terrified. She grabbed onto Chu Fan’s clothes, holding on tightly.

Chu Fan paid her no mind. He looked up at the rooftops on both sides of the street and shouted, "Everyone, you’ve watched this whole show. Does my, Chu Fan’s, Combat Power meet with your approval?"

With so many spectators lurking in the darkness, of course, no one would answer him.

"I am young and full of vigor. Upon seeing such a peerless beauty, it’s only natural to want to win her favor. Since I won the auction, she is mine. If you want to take her by force, I will naturally disagree. I’ll ask again, does anyone else wish to stand in my way? An hour of a spring night is worth a thousand gold, and we’ve already wasted several hours."

Chu Fan shouted once more.

Beside him, Wen Chan’s fear was mixed with a hint of shyness.

"Since no one else is making a move, I will be on my way?" After asking again and receiving no reply, Chu Fan took Wen Chan by the wrist and walked straight ahead.

Leaving the street, they found a contingent of the Imperial Guard blocking the road ahead, sealing it completely.

"Which general wishes to stop me?" Chu Fan stopped and demanded directly.

"Let them pass!" A general mounted on a Wind Chasing Beast emerged and gave a direct order to his subordinates.

The troops, who had formed an impenetrable blockade, immediately cleared a path at the general’s command.

As Chu Fan and Wen Chan passed by the Imperial Guard, the general spoke again. "Ahead is the Shengshi Inn. Someone has already arranged a room for Young Master Chu. You may proceed there directly."

"Then please convey my thanks to that person for me!" Chu Fan said, clasping his fist in a salute.

The Shengshi Inn was only three li ahead. The two of them arrived after walking for just a quarter of an hour.

No one else blocked their path along the way.

Inside the inn, the old Shopkeeper saw Chu Fan, holding his Iron Spear and leading the peerless beauty, and hurried forward to greet them.

"Young Master, this old one has been awaiting you for some time. A high-Class courtyard suite has been prepared. The sheets and quilts have all been replaced with new ones, and the bath in the room has been filled with fresh water. The temperature should be just right!"

Chu Fan nodded. "Thank you for your trouble."

"It’s no trouble, no trouble at all! To be of service to you, Young Master, is this old one’s honor of three lifetimes."

The old Shopkeeper personally led them to a private courtyard in the back and opened the door to a room containing a bathing pool.

Indeed, inside were two pools, one large and one small, both filled with steaming water.

After Chu Fan and Wen Chan went inside, the Shopkeeper wished them a good evening and closed the door from the outside.

"Let this servant help you bathe, Young Master."

"No need, I can manage myself!" Chu Fan took off his outer robe and, still wearing his blood-soaked trousers, jumped directly into the large pool.

Chu Fan retrieved several sets of women’s clothing from the Juntian Mirror World and placed them to the side.

In truth, Wen Chan was slightly shorter than Yun Xi, Leng Yingxue, and Yan Ying. The three of them were about seven chi and one cun tall (around 172 cm), while Wen Chan was just under seven chi (about 168 cm).

Therefore, Yun Xi’s clothes would certainly not be a perfect fit for Wen Chan.

’But I don’t have any other women’s clothes. She can just change into these for now.’

After all, the rain had soaked her dress, revealing her graceful figure, and Chu Fan was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself.

After all, with Wen Chan’s beauty on full display, what man wouldn’t be moved?

"I’m going to close my eyes and think for a bit. You can wash up in that other pool and change into these clean clothes."

"Mm," Wen Chan’s voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz. Her cheeks were completely flushed, but Chu Fan didn’t see.

Chu Fan had indeed closed his eyes.

’Tonight’s events were so abrupt, so bizarre. I don’t know if my guesses are correct, so I need to review everything from beginning to end.’

’Needless to say, the Crown Prince must have arranged for this inn, and for the Imperial Guard as well.’

’But why didn’t the Imperial Guard intervene during such a massive slaughter?’

’What exactly is the Crown Prince thinking?’

The rustling sounds beside him did not interrupt his thoughts.

Even when he heard the sound of Wen Chan softly entering the pool, Chu Fan remained unresponsive, his eyes closed as he focused on his thoughts.

From the moment she started undressing to when she stepped into the pool, Wen Chan’s gaze never left Chu Fan’s face.

She seemed both nervous and curious.

Of course, she didn’t remove all her clothes, leaving on her silk trousers and dudou. But she washed quickly, and after finishing, she stepped behind a screen to change into the clothes Chu Fan had prepared for her.

"Young Master, I have finished washing."

"If my guess is correct, then everyone from your organization stationed in the Capital City—whether they’re spies or organizers—is already in the Ministry of Justice Prison by now."

Chu Fan opened his eyes, and his first words stunned Wen Chan where she stood.
