Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor
Chapter 1958 Death Assassin
Nie Rouxin and Wu Hong walked through a portal, and the sight of two towering gates — one broken — welcomed them. The scent of blood and metal assaulted her senses, but after experiencing countless wars, Wu Hong was used to it — maybe even enjoying it.
"Welcome, Your Majesty. Welcome, Your Highness."
Wu Hong looked at the rows of soldiers in silver armor, half kneeling. "At ease."
"Yes, sir."
"After all this time, I'm still not used to all this," Nie Rouxin said, sighing.
"You better get used to it. One day, you'll be the disciple of a Saint, and eventually, one yourself."
"I'll try."
"Let's move. Time is of the essence."
The True Qi Path Holy Land remained caged behind their array, even though they had conquered and assimilated all their territories into the Heavenly Court. No one knew what they were planning, but it couldn't be anything good. The time for the expedition against the Red Cloud was approaching, and Wu Hong wanted to do one last thing beforehand.
"They are beautiful," Nie Rouxin commented, her eyes glued to the Human Gate. She found the power of death exuded from these gates alluring. However, the realization that this single gate was the only thing keeping the timeline's population alive frightened her.
"Sister, what's our objective?"
"If we want the world to return to normal, we must repair the Six Path Samsara, and all the other Grand Constructs."
"Is that something you can do? What am I saying? You can do anything."
Wu Hong shook his head. "Under normal circumstances, I can only create a decent copy of the constructs. But now, I have all the conditions to create the real thing."
"I see. So, what's my job?"
"You're here to learn, so just observe."
"Will do."
Wu Hong flicked her hand to summon the court's projection, which in turn released the [Death Seal Runes]. Under her control, the runes entered the [Human Gate] and immediately released a slight tremor that was felt throughout the Samsara battlefields. The broken [Demon Gate] suddenly projected the missing part, followed by the manifestation of four more projections: [Animal Gate], [Ghost Gate], [Deva Gate]. And [Asura Gate].
Wu Hong's seals are Dao Quintessence Prototypes, which means they contain a bit of the essence of a Grand Construct. So, she decided to use them to repair this broken construct, which should also improve her own seal. Under normal circumstances, even such a process might not fix a real construct, or at the very least, would take too long. But now, she also had the assistance of a Grand Dao.
A powerful consciousness descended on the Samsara Battlefield, and it immediately started the repair. Wu Hong aided her by engraving runes in the air, while Nie Rouxin observed on the side.
Roar!
Wu Hong paused to look back. A golden barrier separated this place from the Red Cloud. In the past, the battlefield was divided into three legions, but now, there was only one military barracks. After the terrifying roar, the red cloud became active, sending an endless number of legions to attack.
"There are at least 50 Destructo Monarchs," Nie Rouxin said, taking a deep breath. A Destructo King was on par with a Peak Paragon; a Destructo Emperor could suppress a peak Primal, and a Destructo Monarch was on par with Quasi-Saints.
"Order the court to send most of our troops here. Send the Slave Legion to defend the Borderworld. Tell the old Qilin to keep eyes on the True Qi Path Holy Land."
"I'll get it done."
Ignoring Nie Rouxin, Wu Hong continued the repair. She understood she'd only be useful for a short time. Afterward, Grand Dao must take control. However, that wasn't an issue since she could use this opportunity to memorize all the secrets about Grand Constructs to use later on after reaching the Second Step.
The war waged on, and it was more terrifying than even Wu Hong thought. This time around, the Red Cloud did not play around, sending legions after legions to attack all sides. The Three Paths Array protected the Source Qi Space, but the same could not be said for the Borderworld or the Samsara Battlefields. Even with the remains of the Destiny Hope Array and the Battle Spirit System, the Borderworld faced a desperate battle.
Wu Hong designed the Battle Spirit System to protect mortals. Any causality attack would not reach the mortal controlling the spirit. Instead, the enormous reserves of soul energy gathered from trillions upon trillions of mortals from billions of worlds would block it. Unfortunately, the Red Cloud soon discovered and exploited a flaw in the system.
If a mortal's battle spirit is killed numerous times in a short period, the mortal's spirit will be destroyed, and they will die of exhaustion. Before, the Heavenly Court could hold on long enough to give mortals a decent enough break, but now, all hands were needed. The Red Cloud's attack never stopped, forcing mortals to suffer countless blows to their spirit and dying one after another.
Many court advisors advised Wu Hong to give the mortals a break, or maybe even stop the repairs, but she continued. The Six Path Samsara is fundamentally the most important Grand Construct to this timeline. As long as the cycle of reincarnation can be rebuilt and completed, a boon in the population is expected. A larger population means more talented cultivators, which means more powerful soldiers and generals to fight the Red Cloud.
And that's not mentioning the other benefits. The addition of one more construct will accelerate Grand Dao's recovery, which will in turn accelerate the repair of the hidden rules. In other words, the repair will form a continuous cycle of benefits for the entire timeline, and only an idiot would not pay any price to ensure its success. Mortal lives are short, and after building a civilization for them, all of them had a good and happy life. Now it was time for them to repay the world, or the court, for its benevolence.
Wu Hong ignored everything else and focused on learning from the experience. Suddenly, her heart accelerated, her senses intensified, and her sweat glands went into overdrive. She knew that feeling: the warning of danger. Unfortunately, Wu Hong's reaction was too late. Something suddenly appeared behind her and stabbed her.
Bang!
A potent force pushed the attacker a dozen meters away, allowing Wu Hong to turn around calmly. There was no surprise in Wu Hong's face. As someone who was in harmony with Heaven and Earth, and the controller of Grand Dao, few things could successfully sneak attack her.
"Who are you?" Nie Rouxin immediately yelled.
"Get behind me," Wu Hong said as a blue crystal appeared on her forehead. Her aura also changed, becoming cold and indifferent, as if she were a machine that only knew logic. Nie Rouxin wanted to say something, but instantly read the situation and chose to follow her direction.
"What a strange aura," Wu Hong said, her voice carrying a strange, domineering echo. The attacker was a man in all black, hood, mask, holding two black-red daggers. More importantly, it was a Saint.
"Is that the power of death?" Wu Hong continued. "You're not from this timeline, are you? Who are you?"
"The Lord has chosen your husband as his vessel, but we know he will resist. Now, you can come peacefully with me and help him accept his fate, or I can bring your corpse. Your choice."
"So, you're Wang Wei's trouble? It seems his Time Nexus Event has already started, and I've been dragged into it."
"What is your choice?" the Death Assassin asked.
"What do you think?"
"Very well."
The Death Assassin rushed forward with its dagger while Wu Hong conjured a sword in response; they moved at extraordinary speed before clashing. Wu Hong immediately distanced himself while frowning. That single clash had decimated a quarter of the soldiers still left in the military barracks. And if it weren't for her protecting them, all of them would have failed.
Death Assassin suddenly appeared next to her and swung his dagger; he missed the mark as Wu Hong had flown to the sky. With one thought, Death Assassin appeared next to his target in the sky, but Wu Hong casually blocked his attack while manifesting an array that covered the entire battlefield.
Swish!
Nie Rouxin and all the soldiers were teleported away from the battlefield while Wu Hong's avatar appeared. She rushed over to the barrier protecting against the Red Cloud and took control. The situation was sudden and dire, so the avatar decided to act drastically. First, she took control of the Three Path Arrays before dissipating the barrier protecting the Central Area, diverting all its power to the barrier protecting the Samsara Battlefield.
"This should buy us some time," the avatar thought as she looked at the endless horde of Destructo Beasts. The Silver Legion was still facing the horde, but now they could not return to the barracks to recuperate behind the barrier. In other words, they only had one choice: hold until Wu Hong ended her battle or die.
