Shi Zhile checked her points. She had a total of 610, far ahead of the second-place player, who had 560.

The Green Snake slithered down her leg and, while Shi Zhile was busy collecting the other goats, began to nibble at the goat meat.

Tang Yan climbed down from the tree, grimacing as he limped along with an awkward posture.

Shi Zhile glanced at him. It was obvious it wasn’t his butt that hurt. “Where does it actually hurt?” she asked.

Tang Yan said, “…My butt!”

Wrong! It was his balls that hurt!

What a pitiful sight.

He had landed right on a ewe’s back, just as she was mating with the alpha ram.

That’s what led to him being chased by the entire herd of goats.

He was too embarrassed to admit his balls hurt in front of a girl, so he’d insist it was his butt hurting until the day he died.

Shi Zhile looked away from him and toward the Green Snake on the goat. “XiaoQing, stop eating. I’ll give you a leg later.”

The little Green Snake raised its head and slithered back up her body.

Shi Zhile went over, butchered the goat, and stored it in her dimensional space. Then, without a backward glance, she continued on her way.

Tang Yan followed behind Shi Zhile, still grimacing in pain.

The air grew increasingly humid. Having survived in the game for over half a year, Shi Zhile could now make rough weather predictions.

“It’s going to rain soon. We need to find shelter.”

A chill hung in the forest air, and the temperature was only ten degrees Celsius. Getting caught in the rain would surely lead to sickness.

They picked a large tree, but before they could even rest, a rustling sound came from the branches above.

They snapped their heads up and immediately met a pair of round, pitch-black eyes.

A golden monkey was hanging upside down from a branch, baring two sharp fangs with a menacing look on its face.

Shi Zhile casually took out an apple. The little monkey’s expression changed in an instant, and it chirped twice, trying to curry favor.

Tang Yan commented, “Well, the little guy is two-faced!”

Shi Zhile tossed the apple up and down a few times, making the little monkey scratch its head in frustration.

“You want this?”

The little monkey chittered again, its tone urgent.

Shi Zhile said, “I need a place to shelter from the rain. Lead us there, and the apple is yours.”

Tang Yan glanced from Shi Zhile to the little monkey. “Can it understand what you’re saying?”

The little monkey immediately stopped hanging upside down and leaped to another tree.

It looked back at Shi Zhile and chittered, as if telling her to follow.

Shi Zhile didn’t hesitate, following close behind.

Half an hour passed. A fine drizzle began to wet the leaves, and the two humans and one monkey picked up their pace.

The light grew brighter and their view opened up. Ahead of them lay a large meadow, in the middle of which stood a small, thatched hut.

The little monkey stopped on the outermost branch. Shi Zhile tossed it the apple, which it snatched in its mouth before excitedly scurrying back into the woods.

Shi Zhile and Tang Yan sprinted toward the hut. Just as they stepped inside, the light drizzle turned into a torrential downpour.

The thatched roof leaked in several places, but thankfully, the drips were small.

Tang Yan started a fire on the floor while Shi Zhile sat on a pile of hay and opened her system panel.

Messages scrolled across the panel one after another. Shi Zhile quickly scanned them until her gaze froze on a system-wide announcement.

[Player “Struggling for Life” has achieved the first solo kill, successfully eliminating player “Once Upon a Time” and earning 1000 points.]

The message scrolled three times, highlighted in bright red.

The other players immediately erupted into a frenzy in the chat.

[Player: My god! You get 1000 points for killing one player? I just killed a venomous snake and only got five!]

[Gao Xu: He has more points than Contentment Brings Happiness now! I’m done killing animals. I’m going to kill players too.]

…

More and more players chimed in with agreement. Within a minute, two more players shot up the leaderboard.

Tang Yan saw the message too and sighed. “The system is just adding fuel to the fire. It’s like they’re afraid not enough players are dying.”

Shi Zhile replied, “This is the real battle royale. We haven’t even encountered any large predators, yet everyone’s already started killing each other. Once our Strength is exhausted, that’s when the lions and tigers will show up.”

The warmth of the fire enveloped him. Watching the kill notifications and point gains scroll by, Tang Yan’s expression turned vicious.

“We should go kill people too. If we don’t kill them, they’ll kill us. First strike is the only way.”

The sound of voices drifted in from outside. Shi Zhile immediately grabbed the axe beside her and motioned for Tang Yan to be silent.

She peered through a hole in the wall and saw figures emerging from the forest.

There were three men, all of them tall. The one in the lead was covered in blood and swearing under his breath.

“Fuck, I haven’t gotten laid in a month, and the one time I try to have some fun with a woman, I run into a spitfire. Fucking bad luck.”

The other two chimed in, “Don’t worry, Boss. All the players in the region have been released this time. We’ll definitely find a prettier one.”

Shi Zhile put away her axe, took out her bow, and drew the string taut. The arrow shot out, cutting through the misty rain and piercing the leader’s heart in an instant.

[+1000 points.]

Before the others could react, she loosed another arrow, and a second man fell.

Tang Yan rushed to the opening as well, Crossbow in hand. He fired three bolts in a single volley, riddling the last man.

The notification of points being credited symbolized the player’s permanent death.

Tang Yan said, “Leaving the bodies there will give away our position.”

Tang Yan, who was reloading his Crossbow, looked up. “I’ll go take care of them.”

Shi Zhile glanced at him. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you? I’d get two thousand points for it.”

Tang Yan replied, “I’ve eaten so many of your sweet potatoes. Wouldn’t it be a waste to kill me now?”

Shi Zhile said, “We’ll go together.”

“Alright!”

The two of them put on raincoats and walked out side-by-side. They sprinkled Corpse Dissolving Water on the three bodies.

Soon, the bodies dissolved into a bloody slurry, then a black ooze, which was quickly washed away by the rain into the tall grass.

Before they could return to the hut, another three people emerged from the woods.

It was a group of two women and one man. The man was a player from Huaxia Base, but while Shi Zhile recognized his face, she couldn’t recall his name.

Tang Yan spoke first, identifying himself. “Tang Yan, from Huaxia Base.”

The man’s eyes lit up. “I’m Pan Ming from Huaxia Base. These two are the players Li Sisi and Chen Yan.”

Li Sisi looked the pair up and down, her eyes filled with undisguised contempt when her gaze landed on Shi Zhile.

“I can’t stand women who rely on men. They think they can get protection just by sleeping around a few times, but they’re always the first to die.”

Shi Zhile lifted her gaze and stared at her coldly.

Pan Ming awkwardly tried to smooth things over. “She doesn’t have a filter, please don’t take it to heart. Li Sisi, apologize!”

“Why should I apologize? It’s not that I don’t have a filter, I’m just telling it like it is. It’s freezing out, and she’s barely wearing anything. If she’s not a prostitute, what is she? Isn’t she just… ugh…”

An arrow pierced Chen Sisi’s throat. She stared with wide eyes as blood gushed from the wound.

Pan Ming and Chen Yan whirled to look at Shi Zhile, their eyes filled with terror.

Li Sisi, still very much alive, stumbled back two steps and fell right on her backside.

Shi Zhile put away her bow. The axe reappeared in her hand as she advanced on Li Sisi, one step at a time.

“We’re both women. You like to slut-shame, and I… I like to kill.”
