Chapter 1232 - 1232: To work in dark shadows
[OP: ]
{ “Hello children~! And my fellow teachers~!” }
The day of the competition, a day that the students were kind of looking forward to, but not at the same time.
It was exciting for some, seeing their teachers fighting each other as well as the students, showing their powers that they usually don’t… it was going to be a tournament of skills where they might learn a bunch of new things.
They were looking forward to something exciting. Something new. They were surely nervous about what they would do if they were called out to the arena, but the students and the house captains had all prepared for anything that they might face.
{ “Looks like everyone is having fun already, huh? Now isn’t that fun~?” }
All the teachers were on the left side of the arena while the students were covering the entire left side as well as the sides.
The arena was pretty large but all the thousands of students weren’t sitting evenly right now. The house captains were sitting with their houses, but some of them were still sitting with their own groups.
The positions weren’t really pre decided so the house captains were looking after their house members. While this competition wasn’t focused on the houses, the house captains had taken charge and made sure everything was divided properly.
This setting made it easy for them to handle the other students. They were taking the lead, representing their houses as well as their classes.
Some of the group who had been independent from the start were also keeping their individual distance but they were still connected with their house and the house captains.
If this competition was going to decide whether the student body received rewards or punishment would all depend on their collective choices… they at least didn’t want to become the reason everyone loses and gets blamed for anything.
So, they aimed for a harmonious approach and followed their captains for the time being— of course not all of them were going to follow what the captains say, but the captains had also anticipated the anomalies that might arise.
Now, it was all up to how the teachers selected their opponents.
{ “Hmmm~! The weather is nice today and the air is booming with excitement as well~! Oh how happy this makes me, haaa~!” }
The one speaking right now, the voice that was echoing all throughout the arena belonged to none other than their Weapon Master, their vice headmaster. Helpusoutbyreadingon*.
She was sitting with the judgement panel that consisted of the headmaster, Sir Codocodomi, one of the oldest teachers, Sir Zarathurielm, along with everyone’s beloved Lady Cleo, and of course, the vice headmaster.
While unexpected, as the representative of the student body, Zoe, the captain of the leading house, was selected as an honorary judge– something Eon had foreseen but still wasn’t sure would happen.
‘Now this makes sense.’
With the presence of an honorary judge, who was a student, the path to challenge a ‘judge’ was open for the teachers.
They had the option to do it, so they weren’t going to hold back. Besides there were many teachers who were eager to test out just what the top student of the first year possessed for them to achieve that rank.
‘Now she has an excuse…’
Eon looked at the arena, at the entire teacher body, his class teacher, the teachers that have taught him until now, even his uncle among them… he could see all the teachers were surely looking forward to this.
The expression of mischief that they had was not good news for the students. Since the vice headmaster forbade him from spying on the teachers in any way, he also didn’t know what their teachers had been up to.
‘I’ll just have to wait and see what they have cooked up.’
He was with his house right now and since they didn’t have their house captain, he was the only one leading them right now.
It did not mean Zoe wasn’t going to participate in the competition at all. She was going to guide them however she could from her special position and if anything, this was an honor for their house.
Their captain was sitting with people that had achieved greatness in their fields. People who have great minds around the world look up to.
It was no small thing. It also wasn’t just because of her first rank that she was chosen to be the representative. Literally none of the students had any big reason for her to not be the representative.
She was good to everyone. Even the people who looked down on everyone and caused trouble for their house, did not have anything to complain about her.
She wasn’t the strongest among the students, she wasn’t the smartest, no one knew how she got the first place either, but ultimately, she was in a position that made her more special than all the others at the moment.
This was pretty valid, and ultimately, most of us were in support of this.
‘I didn’t want her to fight anyway. They were better off not knowing the powers she actually possessed just yet.’
Eon knew there would come a time when she had to reveal her powers to the world, when she had to reveal her divine origin, but that time hadn’t arrived yet.
He wanted her to finish her time as a student without getting in any trouble so this was for the best.
{ “I assume everyone knows the rules since your wonderful, new student council presidents have explained to you all so well. Then, how about we all start the main show already~?” }
“Whooooooooo!”
Despite the nervousness, the students were all looking forward to this. They were excited, most of them looking forward to what they might be learning from their teachers.
-Booooooom!
-Kerrrrr… trtrtrtr!
However, when the magical fireworks announced the beginning of the event, the teachers who had been ready a while ago, descended down to the arena.
The first ones to come down were the class teachers of the twelve classrooms, along with a few famous teachers.
{ “The teachers have arrived, so, shall we see who they will be choosing as their sparring partners this time?” }
Their teachers from the twelve classrooms, their teachers who had taught them practical lessons, their alchemy teachers, even Miss Vivian, a beast tamer, were present in the arena. All of them seemed pretty prepared as well, wearing good clothes appropriate for battle.
‘The teachers would choose the first right of the opponents. And following that, the students would get the chance to call for the teachers that they wanted the guidance from.’
The students who defeat the teachers would get a chance to call for the next teachers as well, and while it’s not going to be simple, the students believed this would be relatively easier since they were going to get an arena of their own.
{ “Seems like the teachers have chosen their opponents! Let’s give a huge round of applause to the first round of challengers!” }
The students that the teachers had chosen received a magical notification before them. If they accepted it, they would be transported to their respective opponents, and if they declined, then the teachers would have to choose someone else.
‘Huh?’
The house captains had expected the teachers to choose multiple students for some of the rounds since it would make it easier for them. However, in their very first round, they did not think the teachers would end up summoning almost a third of their classes in the arena!
{ “Ohh! A group battle right from the beginning! How exciting!” }
On the ground, the large arenas were filled with one teacher, and tens of students standing before them at once.
There were more than a few dozen students currently present on the arena right now, all of which were relatively bright within their ranks.
There were some who scored well within the first year exams, most of the students were also those who had either caused troubles for the other students or had been active in the class.
The selected students did not contain any of the house captains, nor the brighter, top ranking students of their classes. From the looks of it, it seemed like the teachers were picking up on the students in the middle ranges of their classes.
‘Damn…’
The chosen first batch of students, while having gone after taking confirmation from their house captains, did not feel too good about this.
They presented their rules and established the conditions. The teachers, agreeing to teach them all, happily asked for all of the students to do their best as well.
‘Who came up with this…?’
Eon and the rest of the house captains were left wondering about this initial move of their teachers.
But what surprised them even more was how the teachers, in the name of teaching the students, started outright bullying them.
‘Some chose practical combat, some chose to guide their students through applied knowledge… but every single one of them was brutally crushing the students.’
Unlike how the students knew them from their classroom, within this arena, the teachers had become extremely competitive.
Some guided the students while beating them up. Some showed them how to use some techniques or magic properly while criticising their work in the harshest possible tone.
Some even went as far as using other methods to ‘teach’ their students. It was a sight that induced genuine fear in the rest of the students.
[{ “Wow, damn…” }]
[{ “Isn’t this what we call bullying.” }]
Miserable, their fellow classmates, their fellow house members, their fellow students were simply miserable right now.
In fact, this did not seem right either.
But, they were following all the rules… making the situation impossible to complain against.
The judges also simply watched as the teachers all won the first of the rounds with a landslide, reminding the house captains as well as the two presidents how great of an anomaly their dear teachers could be…
