Chapter 1050 Oh? You don't say...
[Eon’s POV: ]
“The lunch that we had was pretty… average, no?”
“Hey, don’t say that before Carla. She loved it, you know?”
“I know… but… what’s the point of eating meat if you are going to eat it raw.
I mean, I’ve had raw fish in the east before but this isn’t really all that great.
They just grilled the meat a little? And we were eating with a bland sauce?
What the hell?”
Rein was complaining about the launch that we had a while back. It wasn’t all that bad, it was something good, but, it seems it did not suit her taste buds.
“The food you make, darling, has a unique taste to it.
I mean, yes the other things that someone else makes also had a flavour, but the things that you make had depth to it that I cannot explain.
Even street food like this squid. It had something unique to it, and I’m not saying that simple meat dish didn’t have something unique to it… but, I’d prefer something simple and good like this over something like that.”
“I see. I’ll have to remember that.”
“You remember all the things anyway. Hmph.”
After we finished lunch, we had a small stroll around the park and then, since it was getting late, we finished the tour for the day.
Anna was gone with the knight guards now, and Zoe and Carla were accompanying them.
Alf had gone to the magic shops to see if they had some new books on magic, while Quin and Chry were strolling around the nearby shore by themselves.
President was by himself as well, but I guess he is studying this city from some areas. Perhaps he will try and search for the bad things happening around here as well.
‘Cradle on the other hand… must be in some inn by now. With one or a few partners. Enjoying the approaching night, planning to spend the night in the city rather than in the lavish room of the castle.’
Well, it’s her life. And if doing things like that gives her some distraction and pleasure, she sure is going to feel a little relief… until she feels worse once again.
“Well, it’s alright. If you don’t like something that others liked, then that’s alright. Everyone has their preferences. You just didn’t resonate with the art that food was presented with.”
The lunch we had wasn’t all that bad.
They did not focus on the taste much since it seems like they did not know how much they could have improved it with the right condiments.
The flames that the thing was cooking on was special, the sauce that they gave was good, not something super flashy, but just something that enhanced the natural taste of the costly meat. Read the latest on empire
Quin and Chry loved it as well. And Alf had a somewhat positive reaction to it as well. Zoe… well, she liked it, but Anna, just like Rein, did not like it all that much.
‘Both our presidents liked it as well so, perhaps, there’s some deeper reason the two of them did not like it all that much.’
Perhaps it’s related to some kind of unique trait characteristic. Or perhaps it might have something to do with two different things.
“Anyway…”
Anna might have not liked it for some ethical reason while Rein might not have liked it for simple taste reasons. It could be possible.
Anything could be possible in this world, actually.
“I see you all have been staring here for a while now? What might be the matter?”
We were not wearing any disguises even now but I had cast a masking spell on us so no one was going to recognize us here.
Plus we were in a secluded location. Somewhere around the residential districts, there weren’t many people that paid much attention to us aside from those who were wondering if we were nobles or not.
“Oho! So you knew about us~?”
Aside from all these people though, there was a particular group of people that seemed to be interested in something.
“Well, no point hiding it anymore, I guess.”
A group of six.
One of which seemed to be a knight of [Rank-5], a rank that was most definitely not something simple or something one can achieve with just training.
This person, though wearing simple clothing, was skilled enough to wield Aura at a level that not even Carla was capable of at the moment.
Also, from the looks of it, these people were no simple individuals.
“Hello there~. We noticed you two a while back and were interested in something~.”
Of the remaining five, two were carrying strong protective and offensive artifacts.
From their status windows, we had figured out they were not simple people either, but, even though it was somewhat predictable that these were noble children walking around the city or something, we had never really heard of the names present on their status windows.
[{ “They aren’t related either.” }]
And, even though it seemed like at least two of them looked similar, they weren’t really connected by either blood, or any relationships.
“Oh, right. Where are my manners~? Shouldn’t we introduce ourselves first~?”
The one speaking with us seemed the same age as us, while the knight was much older. Perhaps as old as Elder uncle.
Of the five, the two that looked similar seemed a little younger than us while the remaining two were older. Perhaps around the age of Senior brother Spector.
Still, even though they were accompanied by a knight as powerful as that person, they weren’t really all that special.
They weren’t even as strong as an academy student that had their ranks in the top fifty.
So…
Why were they following us and, more than that, why is it that I have this weird feeling about this?
“We are from a small adventurer party… well, technically, that’s how it is for the time being.
Our parents, actually, want us to be adventurers or at least get the experience of being one.
All of us orphans that were adopted by a couple who wanted children or something like that.”
The person that seemed good at talking explained to us how this old couple who had adopted all of them individually, asked them to register as adventurers and clear a certain dungeon located on the seventh island.
“Soooo… though our new parents are dumb rich, they now want us to do something crazy like getting a dungeon experience.
They want us to clear it, and we obviously aren’t experienced enough or strong enough to do that.”
“Which is why they are recruiting people to clear the [Serpent’s nest].”
The elder knight that had been the one observing the two of us since a while ago finally spoke up and took out an adventurer’s licence card– apparently, he was an <A> rank.
“The pay they are offering is pretty good, and since they somehow detected the vast volume of Mana that the two of you have, they assumed you must be some capable mages and want to recruit you as well.”
His explanation of the whole situation was on point and that was all that he said before shaking his head at the two elder ones and walking away from here.
It seemed like he wasn’t interested in all these children, which caught me off guard since I thought he was their guard, but, it seems I was wrong this time.
“Yeah. As that old man said, we want to recruit you two~.
I saw the way you created that sparkle of light earlier in the square. And also the water bubble that the Miss here was creating.
I’ve never seen anything like that~.”
“Oh? You don’t say…”
Rein was unexpectedly surprised at this as well.
This situation… was unexpected, actually.
[{ “He seems innocent.” }]
[{ “I have a bad feeling about that knight though.” }]
[{ “Same here.” }]
“If you don’t mind me asking, Mister Johans.”
“Oh! We are almost the same age~. You don’t have to be so polite.”
“I’m more comfortable with this manner of speaking, mister.”
Beside, both of us are technically much older than the rest of them.
[{ “From the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like they have any ill intentions or anything.” }]
[{ “You know what? I wanna know what the hell their parents are and why they want them to go to the <B> rank dungeon with just one knight.” }]
Dungeons were dangerous places and sending your adopted children there for experience wasn’t something you should be doing.
[{ “I don’t think they have just one knight actually. And, look…” }]
The knight that was with them until now, who had walked away just now, was still secretly watching them from a certain distance away right now.
He was outside of the common detection range of a mage so he might be thinking that we couldn’t detect him, but with my Solnova senses, and with Rein’s eyes which kept track of that person, we knew where he was.
As well as how he was looking after them.
[{ “This is… a little weird.” }]
First of all, these five were children adopted by a couple who had enough money to give them all those precious artifacts that they were carrying around without hesitation.
Secondly, a strong knight who was pretending to be an adventurer was looking after them.
Thirdly, the artifact that they used to find us, the Mana Rating Sanner, was a limited artifact accessible only by someone with high enough status to be in the grand conference.
Which is a much bigger thing than it seems…
“So, will you join us~? We already have a few parties hired for this… though, we will have to discuss the pay first.”
“That’s right! We have almost run out of the money that mom-.”
One of the younger ones in the back spoke up with a loud voice, but the other younger one just shut his mouth before he revealed anything noteworthy.
“Right… we, well, we don’t really care about the loot or anything. We just want you to join us.”
I wasn’t expecting someone to have that device so we weren’t really hiding our Mana. We did not have to in most cases, actually, since it was already very hard to detect due to our control over it.
‘That was a special device and if I’m not wrong…’
It must have shown them that both of us were (tier-4) mages of the highest grade.
Which, in fact, is not something you can find in an island city like this one that commonly…
