Chapter 1046 About a possible challenge
[Eon’s POV: ]
“Haha, yes~. It’s quite a fun place.”
“I wanted to go there as well! Why can’t I go there as well?!”
“You already know the reason, silly.”
“I know! I just don’t like it!”
Alf was being grumpy.
Carla didn’t really have any great desire to go to the lighthouse and see some technical, old things, so she simply smiled at her childish brother.
“The view from up there is the best thing, actually.”
We just came back from the lighthouse and Rein is bragging about what we saw there.
Since it’s night already, Anna and the parents have gone to their room.
Anna is with Zoe and since she was tired already, she fell asleep early today.
‘Zoe said she will sleep soon as well, so we should go back to our rooms as well.’
But, this is fun.
“Don’t be like that, Elle~! Tell us more about that place~. Tell us about that view please~.”
While she wasn’t part of this circle, Cradle surely knew how to have fun.
She was teasing Alf, who wanted to go and see that lighthouse as well. She was also flirting with Rein, but the rest of them could not see that.
[{ “How are you fine with this?” }]
[{ “I’m not.” }]
President and I were on the other side, watching them while talking about our own things.
[{ “She knows she is torturing herself by doing that. If she wants to be a masochist, who am I to stop her?” }]
Cradle liked Rein, and it was not a new thing for the two of us anymore.
Throughout the many months we have been together, since the very first day where she almost got her soul shattered by that protective spell of mine, she had been coping with simply being close with her.
She had tried it many times, she had tried to get closer to her, and she was now as close to Rein as she would ever be.
She knows she isn’t going to leave me, or give her a chance for that matter. And despite knowing that, if she wants to continue making futile advances, she’s free to do it.
In a place as beautiful and pretty as this, the pain she will have to endure will just be that much greater.
“Man, that place is amazing. When you’re up there, you feel the freshest winds coming from all four sides.
In the west, you see the vast ocean. In the east, the estate.
When you look to the north, you see the lively and bustling night life of the city, and when you look towards the south, you see the vast blue filled with ships leaving for the mainland.”
She was telling them how she felt when she was up there. And, since she had already told them about the technical, boring things in brief, we know aside from Alf and President, the rest of them don’t really wanna know anything about any of that.
[{ “If you have not known, President, she has tried making a
move
on Quin, Carla, and Mia as well. In fact, she almost succeeded with Miss Mia-.” }]
[{ “I know all that, Eon. She has this perverse habit of telling me about her ‘adventures’ with the ‘innocent’ lambs that she catches.” }]
Cradle wasn’t a bad person, she was simply… fun seeking.
It wasn’t like she liked jumping from one partner to another, she simply liked a lot of people and thus, none at the same time.
‘With everyone else, it was simply about having fun or doing fun things. But, it was different with Rein.’
To us who knew her, she genuinely looked miserable every time Rein did what she wanted her to do, but did not go further than a limit that she had already made clear.
And, every time that happened, she was the only one getting hurt. No one else but her.
[{ “You should look after her a little more, President.” }]
[{ “Hmm? Aren’t I doing enough already? I’m practically her babysitter.” }]
[{ “Yes, but… if she breaks, you know it won’t really be a good thing, right?” }]
She was a half-breed. She wasn’t a complete member of the nightborns, and she was also not a human. She had powers from both sides, a balanced, rare power, but… she was not as special as That person.
‘She could simply use skills from both her sides, and had a half-crystal heart, but other than that, she was no unique being.’
There was a possibility that she might fall to the demonic corruption under certain circumstances. And, the president knew that already…
[{ “I know that. But I know her.” }]
The way he looked at her at times like these… one might definitely think he was in love with her.
And yes he certainly loved her, but not romantically.
They had a unique bond, a bond of friendship that was different from the friendship that the rest of us had.
[{ “She won’t fall. Even if she does, she will stand back again in an instant.” }]
The two of them knew each other for many years now.
The story of how they started as rivals and then became friends over time as they worked together was pretty well known among us students.
The two of them were famous as well, and they had received offers from all kinds of famous organisations. They were even invited by some of the most famous famous people in the world to come and work under them, they were simply that good.
Not only were they the presidents of the council, and one of the most trusted individuals that the headmaster himself recognised, they were also far more knowledgeable about their specialities than many experts out there.
‘They were good, and, but they were not like this when they started the academy.’
In fact, the president didn’t know much of anything about anything when he came to the academy.
‘The healthy competitions that the two of them had for the three years that they were students was what brought them together.’
And now, they are what we call best friends. Someone that understood each other better than, or at least as well as lovers.
[{ “I trust her… so, I hope you will do so as well. Even if to a certain degree.” }]
It was a request of his.
[{ “I will try. Though, believe me when I say this… if she does fall, I will not hesitate to release an arrow at her.” }]
[{ “And I’m hoping you’d do that.” }]
The reason we are here, in the first place, was because of her.
‘If she had not come in her astral form to kiss Rein when we came to the academy, she would not have been wounded by the spell.’
If she had not been wounded, the president wouldn’t have used his precious golden elixir on her. And if he had not used that, we might have never known the potential Sansan’s skill had.
[{ “Anyway…” }]
We were here right now, in the northern archipelagoes, in my motherland, in the location where the place best suited for our grand experiment was located.
In a few days, we will go with the headmaster and test our theory for ourselves and see if we, the humans, could actually create a substance that possesses the power to bring the dead back to life without the use of divinity.
‘If we do succeed and create that miraculous drug, we will have our names written in the celestial records. And, even if we fail, we will pave the path to a new possibility for humanity.’
If not now, at least in a hundred years, there will be someone that can actually carry out what we could not complete.
And, even if they complete what we could not, we will be remembered as the ones who started this. The ones who place the silver tracks for the trailblazing souls of tomorrow.
[{ “It’s getting late. Shouldn’t you tell your knight to stop now?” }]
We were in the open area in front of the castle.
The place was well lit by the magical lights so there was enough illumination here.
Still, in this well lit place, the light that was exploding and illuminating the small things below this small hill, was the golden flash coming from the instantaneous movements of my young knight.
Stay tuned for updates on empire
[{ “He’s not pushing himself, so there’s no need to stop him. Besides…” }]
Quin was there with him. Telling him how they should have reacted against the Povpoi and Sam when they fought against them earlier.
‘They lost, even with the support of the President and Cradle. However, since that spar wasn’t between the four of them but just the two and the little creatures, they were the only ones who actually lost.’
They were practising what they could have done better. Refining their moves a little more now that they had some time to themselves.
[{ “It’s better to leave them alone.” }]
Not many knew this but… just like us, this is also Chry’s motherland.
He wasn’t born here and this was certainly his first time here, but his roots were here as well.
And, if he was going to carry out his revenge, this place, his time here, and his time here with Quin, was going to be very essential to both of them.
“Haaa…”
“Oh my! Look at the time!”
It was getting late… we should take our leave now.
“Everyone, we should head back now, right? We have to wake up early tomorrow and go shopping as well~!”
Rein was certainly excited to spend her time in the city and meet the people of this land.
‘We were excited about it as well, but, sadly, I will be working when they are out shopping.’
Meeting people and all is a good thing, a fun thing certainly.
However, there is someone we have to go and see tomorrow.
So, I will be on my own while Rein and the rest of them have fun… it’s a small business, so it shouldn’t take too long.
‘Hopefully, I will rejoin them in a few hours.’
