Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 726: Battlefield Dominance (Part 1)
Chapter 726: Chapter 696: Battlefield Dominance (Part 1)
Right now, Commander Gu Yan—the one the special forces captain had mentioned—had no time to check for messages.
Gu Yan was currently locked in battle with a Fourth Level Late Stage “Giant Arm.”
Gu Yan’s power was only at the Divine Demon Realm Middle Stage. Normally, he would stand no chance against a Fourth Level Late Stage “Giant Arm.” Fortunately, he was a veteran Divine Demon Realm powerhouse and possessed his own Legendary Level Mecha.
Relying on his Mecha’s assistance, he was barely able to fight it to a standstill.
The “Giant Arm” gripped an Alloy Long Rod tens of meters long—where it found such a thing was a mystery—and brought it crashing down with ferocious force.
Gu Yan immediately piloted his Mecha to meet the attack. Just as they were about to collide, a slab of hard rock materialized above the Mecha, blocking the descending Alloy Long Rod.
Not to be outdone, he controlled the Mecha to grip a Wide and Resilient Giant Sword over five meters long and swung it directly at the “Giant Arm’s” chest.
However, an Elemental Barrier materialized over the “Giant Arm’s” torso. At the same time, it lashed out with a kick, meeting the Mecha in a solid, head-on collision.
BOOM!
After the blow, both sides retreated once more.
Gu Yan glanced at his Mecha’s system panel. The armor on its right arm had sustained more damage.
But Gu Yan wasn’t worried. This level of damage was still within his acceptable limits. In a direct confrontation, he primarily consumed the Mecha’s energy reserves, supplemented by some of his own Superpower.
The “Giant Arm,” however, consumed its Elemental Power with every clash.
Once he depleted most of the creature’s internal Elemental Power, he could exit the Mecha and use his trump card, Life-Sacrificing Strike, to finish it off quickly.
So, without outside interference, the outcome was predictable. The only uncertainty was how much it would cost to repair his Legendary Level Mecha after the battle.
‘The thought made him wince.’
“Suppressive fire! Increase the intensity of the bombardment! Drain its Elemental Power as fast as possible! Don’t worry about hitting the Mecha. The damage from a direct collision would be even worse,” Gu Yan ordered grimly over the comms channel.
Upon hearing the command, the special forces soldiers fighting alongside him from the rear no longer hesitated.
The intensity of their bombardment instantly increased severalfold.
Yet, amidst the deafening roar of artillery, a single, unremarkable gunshot rang out. A small Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Round flew through the storm of shells and bullets, utterly insignificant in comparison.
But this tiny round possessed greater precision than any artillery shell, and its timing could only be described as sublime.
The bullet struck at the perfect moment—just after the “Giant Arm” and the Legendary Level Mecha clashed, precisely when the Elemental Barrier had momentarily shattered.
Of course, even with its Elemental Barrier shattered, the “Giant Arm” would always reserve some Elemental Power to protect its most vital area: the head.
Therefore, Lin Xinghai’s shot wasn’t aimed at the head. Instead, it targeted the back of the creature’s neck, a spot with relatively weaker Defense Power.
Normally, not even a Grenade Cannon could hope to breach the keratinous hide of a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie, let alone a tiny bullet.
But a Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Round from a Gauss Rifle possessed more than five times the kinetic energy of a Heavy Machine Gun’s bullet. Even so, that alone wouldn’t be enough to break through the hide. However, when the round was also infused with 300 points of Blood Qi Power, it was a completely different story.
PFFT!
When the infused Blood Qi Power converged and erupted at the point of impact, it blasted a thumb-sized hole in the creature’s keratinous hide.
For a “Giant Arm” standing over ten meters tall, such a tiny hole was utterly negligible.
It wouldn’t even need to pay it any mind; the wound would heal completely in a second or two.
But that tiny hole had already paved the way for the Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Round.
The hardened round, carrying immense kinetic energy, shot right into the creature’s body.
It penetrated nearly 50 centimeters into the creature’s neck before the muscles inside clamped down on it, stopping it dead in its tracks.
The damage from the bullet itself was nothing, but in the next instant, the depleted uranium within the round ignited. As a terrifyingly high temperature erupted, the “Giant Arm” let out a pained, low roar.
However, the “Giant Arm” reacted with incredible speed. A massive surge of Elemental Power erupted from within its body, enveloping the flesh around the Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Round and preventing the intense heat from spreading.
Simultaneously, its internal muscles began to squirm rapidly, forcing the Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Round out.
Watching this, Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but feel a little rueful. ‘A Mutated Zombie that has mastered Elemental Power is a completely different creature from one that hasn’t.’
‘If it didn’t have Elemental Power protecting its internal tissues, the flesh would have been rapidly scorched to charcoal. It wouldn’t have been able to squeeze the round out, and even if it wasn’t burned to death, it would have been severely wounded.’
As it was, the creature’s aura had only weakened slightly.
Of course, Lin Xinghai was in no hurry. He had plenty of Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Rounds, and each shot only consumed 300 points of Blood Qi Power, a cost he could easily afford.
He raised his Gauss Rifle again, waiting for an opportunity to deliver a fatal blow.
But then he noticed that both sides had suddenly stopped fighting.
It was natural for the “Giant Arm” to pause and be on guard after being ambushed.
But he was baffled that Gu Yan, a Divine Demon Realm powerhouse, hadn’t seized this golden opportunity to press the attack, and had instead stopped as well.
Gu Yan was, in fact, completely stunned. The damage he had inflicted over a dozen rounds of combat with the “Giant Arm” wasn’t as severe as what that single, sudden gunshot had caused.
Moreover, the shot had come so suddenly that not even he, let alone the “Giant Arm,” had reacted to it. ‘If that shot had been aimed at me,’ he thought, ‘I can’t even imagine what would have happened.’
So, after witnessing this, Gu Yan’s first instinct was to find the person who fired the shot.
He quickly used his Perception Power to lock onto a man in Battle Armor on the rooftop of the building opposite them. The man was making an “attack” gesture at him.
Although Gu Yan’s mind was filled with questions—he didn’t know who this man was, or how his bullet could possibly breach the defenses of a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie—
But in that moment, all he needed to know was that the man was here to help.
Instantly, Gu Yan piloted his Mecha to charge forward once more. His Giant Sword swung with horizontal slashes and vertical chops, his assault even more ferocious than before.
Throughout the process, he kept his Perception Power extended, observing Lin Xinghai’s every move.
He watched as the man simply lifted his hand and pulled the trigger, without even a hint of an aiming motion. It looked utterly casual, almost like child’s play.
And yet, the bullet that shot from the muzzle of his gun moved as if it were precision-guided. After tracing a graceful arc, it followed the path of his own Giant Sword’s strike and shot directly into the “Giant Arm’s” body.
