Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 725: Returning Alone (Part 2)
Chapter 725: Chapter 695: Returning Alone (Part 2)
With their keen hearing, Lin Xinghai and Liu Miaomiao could easily overhear the crowd’s whispers.
Liu Miaomiao’s face instantly flushed red, but Lin Xinghai paid it no mind, instead pulling her into his arms.
“Alright, I’m leaving now. Remember to get some rest,” Lin Xinghai whispered earnestly in Liu Miaomiao’s ear.
Just as he was about to let go, Liu Miaomiao wrapped her arms around him and asked softly, “Are you going to the front lines?”
Lin Xinghai was a little surprised. “How did you know?”
“Why else would you come here fully armed? I know you’re very strong, but you must be careful,” Liu Miaomiao urged.
She didn’t try to dissuade him, because she knew that Lin Xinghai belonged on the front lines, stabilizing the war effort.
Yes, even though Lin Xinghai was only at the Marrow Tempering Realm, Liu Miaomiao possessed a mysterious confidence in him, feeling that as long as he took action, he would surely become the core of the entire battlefield, influencing the direction of the war.
“Don’t worry, I will,” Lin Xinghai promised. Without any further delay, he left and headed for the military armory.
He needed to restock on ammunition—to be precise, he needed a large quantity of Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Rounds.
Of course, these were strictly controlled items. Even ordinary military officers had to file a request to purchase them, and the quantity was always restricted.
However, when Lin Xinghai took out his officer’s ID to be checked, he found that he had no restrictions on purchasing ammunition.
He shouldn’t have possessed such clearance before becoming a general. ‘Clearly, someone has already spoken to the armory on my behalf,’ he thought. Although Lin Xinghai didn’t know who it was, it was undoubtedly a good thing for him.
Lin Xinghai purchased 1,000 Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Rounds on the spot. Added to his previous reserves, he now had a total of 1,500 rounds, which was definitely enough.
After all, Lin Xinghai’s targets were all Mutated Zombies. If he were to use up all of these Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Rounds, it would be enough to slaughter every last Mutated Zombie in any given region.
Of course, besides thinking it was enough, another reason he didn’t buy more was that his combat backpack simply had no more room.
After all, Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Rounds were at least three times larger than ordinary bullets.
With everything ready, Lin Xinghai quickly left the forward base and charged alone into the green Poisonous Fog District.
…
“Mortar squad, man the mortars! Don’t save your ammo! You have to lock down that ‘Giant Arm’ with covering fire! Don’t let it get close, and watch out for heavy objects it throws at you!”
“Mecha 1 and 2, all you need to do is keep them busy! Don’t waste your time trying to attack, that’s an ‘Armored Corpse’! With our current firepower, there’s no way we can kill it!”
“And Squad 5, get ready with the flamethrowers! Be prepared to move in for support at any time! Do not let those Blood-colored Beetles get close, or we’re all finished!” an officer was shouting nonstop into the communication channel, barking out one order after another.
This was a special operations unit, and their mission was to clear out the Abyssal Creatures in the peripheral areas as much as possible.
Normally, with their combat power, they should have been relatively safe in this area. With their equipment, plus Mecha support, they could have annihilated the Abyssal Creatures with relative ease.
Even when they encountered Mutated Zombies, as long as there weren’t too many and they weren’t too powerful, they could attempt to encircle and destroy them.
But just a moment ago, they had encountered three Mutated Zombies, and two of them were actually Third Level Mutated Zombies.
If this special operations brigade hadn’t had two Body Shaping Realm experts among them, they probably would have collapsed long ago.
But judging by their current casualties, they could only hold out for five minutes at most. Of course, a request for reinforcements had already been sent out; now it was just a question of whether help would arrive before the Mutated Zombies broke through.
Just as the group was locked in a fierce firefight, they suddenly saw three bursts of fire.
Of course, on a battlefield like this, fire was everywhere. Every exploding shell produced a flash of light.
But at this moment, these three bursts of fire seemed particularly glaring, because they had appeared inside the heads of the three Mutated Zombies.
When they looked closer, what had been a dim glow had already transformed into a raging inferno, burning straight through the three Mutated Zombies’ skulls from the inside out.
The scene was truly bizarre—especially since one of the three Mutated Zombies had been a Third Level “Armored Corpse.”
That was an “Armored Corpse,” known for its freakishly high Defense Power. Even a Divine Demon Realm expert, if they weren’t skilled in offense, would have to put in some effort to kill one.
But now, it had just fallen down, stiff as a board.
Everyone on the field fell silent at the stunning scene.
In the silence, the sound of footsteps approached from the distance.
STEP, STEP, STEP!
They could see a person clad in metal Armor, holding a massive firearm, casually strolling toward them from a distance.
His calm and unhurried demeanor made it seem as though this wasn’t a dangerous Poisonous Fog District, but his own backyard.
The captain of the special operations team was perceptive enough to instantly recognize the man’s gear. The suit he wore was a Battle Armor still in the military’s experimental phase, and the weapon in his hands was the latest model of Gauss Rifle.
In an instant, he came to a conclusion. He took a step forward and said loudly, “Sir, on behalf of all the members of the 13th Special Operations Brigade, I thank you for your help.”
“Don’t mention it. I was just helping out since I was in the area. But I do have a question for you,” Lin Xinghai said.
“Please ask, Sir,” the captain said quickly. Of course, he remained cautious; if the man asked about classified information, he would have to verify his identity before answering.
“Do you know the location of the nearest Divine Demon Realm expert?” Lin Xinghai asked.
Back at the forward base, there was no way to contact Zuo Wenya directly. ‘So I’ll just find another Divine Demon Realm expert,’ he thought. ‘I’m sure someone else will have the right clearance.’
The captain who was being questioned was a bit stunned to hear such a question.
But he quickly recovered and pointed in a direction, saying, “Our commander-in-chief, Officer Gu Yan, is in Area C-116. He’s a Divine Demon Realm expert. You can go straight to that area to find him.”
“Okay, thanks.” As soon as the words left Lin Xinghai’s mouth, his figure vanished before their eyes.
Witnessing this, everyone on the field felt their pupils shrink again as they formed new theories about Lin Xinghai’s true power.
Thinking of this, the captain of the special operations team had someone bring over a long-range Communication Device and reported the matter up the chain of command.
Although Lin Xinghai seemed like an ally, the problem was that the Abyssal Plane had already planted many spies among the human factions. Therefore, anything that felt even slightly abnormal had to be reported at the earliest opportunity.
