Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 722: The Situation (Part 2)
Chapter 722: Chapter 692: The Situation (Part 2)
In fact, Lin Xinghai was well aware that the final death toll would be horrific. Of the 1,100 people who had lost contact, he estimated that less than half would return.
By that calculation, the number of deaths would reach around 1,500.
In that case, the final death rate for the students would exceed 17%, perhaps even approaching 20%.
Moreover, this was just from one academy. If the other two major academies were included, the number of dead students could be close to 5,000.
Furthermore, besides the three major academies, some regular universities had also come here. The final number would probably be even higher.
When he thought about it, Lin Xinghai didn’t want to dwell on it any longer. Right now, he just hoped the rewards from this operation would be substantial enough.
After all, while these students were all geniuses, potential wasn’t the same as strength. They needed a stable environment to develop and grow.
But now, it wasn’t even clear if humanity had a future, let alone a stable environment for growth. Therefore, Lin Xinghai actually supported the military’s decision this time.
‘Just treat it as a brutal screening process.’
“Teacher, what’s the current situation?” Lin Xinghai immediately asked about the other matter he was more concerned about.
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s question, Jian Hua couldn’t help but give a bitter smile. “That’s really hard to say.”
Lin Xinghai raised an eyebrow slightly. Before he could ask anything more, Jian Hua continued, “The military was extremely well-prepared at the beginning, so we had the upper hand. Especially within the first half-hour of the war, the military used artillery to seal off the Abyssal Passage. During that period, we were even able to launch a full-scale counterattack.”
“However, once the Abyssal Passage reopened, the enemy began sending a constant stream of troops, causing the situation to become a stalemate again.”
“So now it’s a matter of seeing whether we can hold out longer, or if the Abyssal Plane gives up on this operation first.”
“In fact, if we want an open and stable Abyssal Passage, the initiative isn’t in our hands; it depends on the will of the Abyssal Plane. If they maintain a high-intensity assault, we will ultimately have no choice but to seal this Abyssal Passage completely, just like all the others.”
“But if that happens, the subsequent ‘Corpse-man Plan’ can no longer be executed.” Jian Hua told Lin Xinghai everything he knew.
Although Lin Xinghai was still nominally his student, in terms of military rank, Jian Hua’s was actually lower than Lin Xinghai’s. Therefore, he could speak freely with Lin Xinghai about matters that would normally be kept secret from students.
After listening, Lin Xinghai thought for a moment before asking, “Then what are the military’s plans?”
“What other plans could there be? The only thing to do now is to hit them hard. Hit them until the Abyssal Plane feels the pain and doesn’t dare to recklessly transport troops over. Only then will we have won,” Jian Hua said.
Lin Xinghai nodded in understanding, then asked, “Teacher, can the academy get in touch with Instructor Zuo Wenya?”
“Not at the moment. They’re on the absolute front line, in the core area. Communications are extremely difficult. Right now, only the military’s general staff can contact them directly.”
At this point, Jian Hua paused, then asked with some hesitation, “Why are you asking?”
Lin Xinghai had nothing to hide. He said directly, “I want to join the battle.”
“What? You’re planning to go back into the fight?” Jian Hua was startled and quickly tried to dissuade him. “You have to understand, it’s nothing but fighting in there now. It’s incredibly chaotic. Even if your Xinghai Squad just wanders around the outer areas, you could run into a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie. There’s no way to guarantee your safety.”
“Teacher, you’ve misunderstood. It’s not the Xinghai Squad, it’s just me. If I’m alone, I can easily escape even if I encounter a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie,” Lin Xinghai explained.
“I know your Speed is high, but even if you can escape from a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie, it won’t do much for the overall war effort! You’d be better off focusing on increasing your strength and breaking through to the Divine Demon Realm as soon as possible. I believe you can become the strongest in the Divine Demon Realm. By then, you really will have the power to change the entire course of the battle by yourself,” Jian Hua continued to persuade him.
“Teacher, I’m actually going in to improve my strength. Alright, I won’t disturb you any longer. I’m leaving now.” Lin Xinghai waved a hand dismissively and left.
Jian Hua didn’t understand his true capabilities, so there were some things that, even if Lin Xinghai said them, the other man wouldn’t necessarily believe.
Lin Xinghai was well aware that his personal strength might not be that impressive, but his Time Acceleration Ability was absolutely heaven-defying.
He was looking for Zuo Wenya with the intention of using his Superpower to assist him in battle. With a tenfold Time Acceleration, Zuo Wenya would definitely have the power to crush any Fourth Level Mutated Zombie.
Besides wanting to contribute, it was even more important for Lin Xinghai to raise his own strength as quickly as possible.
Although the Abyssal Plane had begun its full-scale invasion, meaning the newly emerging Abyssal Creatures would no longer carry Blood Bags…
…the Blood Bags inside the Abyssal Creatures that had come out earlier wouldn’t have just disappeared.
Lin Xinghai wanted to go in this time to kill those Abyssal Creatures and obtain their Blood Bags while helping Zuo Wenya hunt Fourth Level Mutated Zombies, thereby increasing his total Blood Qi Power.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He had to at least raise his total Blood Qi Power to its limit. Then, he would be able to break through to the Body Shaping Realm at any time.
Lin Xinghai quickly returned to the temporary dorms assigned to his squad and found Little Fatty, who was still asleep.
“Is my gear repaired?” Lin Xinghai asked, shaking Little Fatty awake.
Roused from his sleep, Little Fatty mumbled and was about to roll over and go back to sleep, but when he saw it was Lin Xinghai, he quickly perked up. “I contacted the people at Hongyu Group earlier and had them send a repair team. Based on my calculations, the Gauss Rifle should be fixed by now. If you want it, we can go pick it up right away.”
“But for the miniature Mjolnir, we haven’t found a good replacement yet. We found a Divine Demon Realm expert we know and borrowed an Armor-Piercing Gun. As for the Battle Armor, Boss, you can use mine for now. We’ll figure out a way to buy you a new one later.”
“Great, thanks for your hard work. Come with me to pick it up,” Lin Xinghai said with a smile. He was growing more and more fond of Little Fatty, his master of logistics.
“You got it!” Little Fatty immediately rolled out of bed and led the way, asking curiously, “Boss, what do you need all this stuff for now? Don’t tell me… you’re going back to fight?”
As he spoke, Little Fatty was a little startled by his own idea, but upon further thought, he realized it was probably the most logical explanation.
