Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 705 - 675: Repel (Part 2)

The moment the Mecha was split in two, a deafening roar erupted as it activated its self-destruct system.

A Mecha’s self-destruction was far more terrifying than that of the Combat Robots. A massive Fireball completely engulfed the Hunter.

At this point, the Hunter had very little Original Force left. It could only use its body to tank the damage, and it was constantly forced backward in the process.

Meanwhile, an oval-shaped metal object endured the deafening explosion and shot out at high speed in the opposite direction.

This oval-shaped metal object was clearly far tougher than the Mecha. Even after withstanding such a violent explosion, its surface was only covered in pits and dents, but its overall structure remained largely undamaged.

Because time had been short, these Mechas had only undergone minor modifications.

Little Fatty knew very well that when facing a Fourth Level Mutated Zombie, modifying Attack Power, Defense, or mobility would be pointless. Therefore, he had the Hongyu Group prioritize modifying the escape pods.

And this latest model of modified escape pod did not disappoint the members of the Xinghai Squad.

The moment the Mecha’s outer armor was breached, the escape pod ejected within 10 milliseconds, saving the pilot’s life.

Moreover, as the escape pod flew out and was about to land, a thruster suddenly opened on its underside, shooting out a stream of pale blue fluid.

Propelled by the new momentum, the escape pod soared into the air again. This was a unique feature of the latest model; its maximum flight distance could exceed five kilometers.

Five kilometers might not seem like much normally, but it was crucial at this moment.

After all, if the escape pod only allowed them to escape the Mecha, the situation would still be incredibly dangerous. If the Hunter got close and landed another casual blow, there would be absolutely no chance of survival.

But a maximum flight distance of five kilometers was enough for them to reach a safe area.

They could find a nearby military fortress, coordinate with other squads, or, at worst, just fly straight out of the central zone and into the outer zone. Once there, they could find a random place to hide, and their chances of survival would still be extremely high.

Many watched as the escape pod sped away, but this was no end for them. On the contrary, with the Hunter now inside their defensive perimeter, the situation had become even more dangerous.

Although the Hunter had been caught in the Mecha’s self-destruction and knocked back a short distance, it quickly righted itself and lunged toward the next Mecha.

Even with Combat Robots and Attack Drones positioned between the Mechas, trying to block the Hunter’s advance by self-destructing, a Hunter using its special ability was simply too terrifying.

Ordinary High-Energy Bombs no longer posed much of a threat to it. And against its incredible speed, the Superpowers unleashed by the other squad members could hardly land a hit.

In the blink of an eye, it rushed in front of the second Mecha. With a single swing of its Sharp Claws, it sliced the machine in half.

Perhaps the pilot inside reacted a fraction too slowly, or maybe the Hunter’s attack was even faster this time. The ejected escape pod emerged with a deep gash across its surface.

If the escape pod’s material hadn’t been so tough, it probably would have been split wide open.

Although the squad member inside was saved, the damage to the escape pod meant they couldn’t immediately escape the area, leaving them in peril.

All of this might sound slow, but in reality, only two seconds had passed since the Hunter breached their defensive perimeter. In that time, it had already destroyed two Mechas.

And this was its kill rate while simultaneously tanking self-destructions and dodging everyone’s Superpowers.

Otherwise, it could probably take down two or three Mechas in a single second.

At this point, everyone could feel how dire the situation was. If this continued, their squad, with its dwindling numbers, would sooner or later be wiped out.

And as things stood, they couldn’t think of any way to stop it.

"I’ll hold it down! Everyone, get ready to hit it hard again!" Qian Xingxiu’s voice rang out over the comms channel.

Although he had just suffered a backlash, he still had more than half of his Superpower energy left. If he wasn’t afraid of worsening his injuries, he could definitely use Starlight Chain again.

The others instantly held their breath, ready to coordinate their attack.

Specks of starlight began to glow around the Hunter’s body once more.

But before the starlight could form into chains, a massive bullet shot in from the distance, striking the Hunter squarely in the head.

BOOM!

The Hunter was blasted sideways as if hit by a sledgehammer, flying over ten meters before crashing heavily into a house on the side of the street.

This was completely unexpected. After their initial shock, their faces filled with joy, and they all turned to look into the distance.

At that moment, Lin Xinghai was in the middle of a fierce battle with Death Claw and Giant Arm, all while holding an Electromagnetic Railgun. He had just fired another shot in their direction.

A roar echoed, and the Hunter, which had just burst out of the house, was hit again and sent flying right back inside.

"All hail the boss!" Little Fatty couldn’t help but cheer.

None of them had expected that Lin Xinghai could still provide long-range fire support while simultaneously holding off two other Fourth Level Mutated Zombies.

And it was incredibly effective, too.

After all, the Hunter’s Original Force was mostly depleted. Although its powerful Physique allowed it to withstand the blast from the Electromagnetic Railgun...

The problem was, even if the Electromagnetic Railgun couldn’t kill it, the Hunter was unable to negate the powerful impact force. Moreover, its body was so small that it was sent flying every time a shot landed.

For Lin Xinghai, this was more than enough. With Liu Miaomiao on the field, he just needed to stall. As long as the Hunter didn’t flee, it would sooner or later die from having its Life Force completely drained.

And it had to be said, Lin Xinghai’s method was extremely effective. The Hunter was already taking hits from the self-destructing Combat Robots and Attack Drones, so its Speed was already severely limited.

And whenever it got close enough to attack a Mecha, a slug from the Electromagnetic Railgun would arrive right on cue and blast it away.

After a few more consecutive failures, the Hunter finally started to panic.

After another ten-odd seconds of fruitless attacks, it finally let out an indignant roar and began a swift retreat.

Watching the Hunter retreat, the members of the Xinghai Squad were about to cheer.

But when they saw it heading straight for Lin Xinghai’s battlefield, their hearts leaped into their throats.

Although the Hunter’s Speed was continuously dropping as its Life Force drained, it had now reached a point where, even while using its special ability, its Speed was only 80,000.

The problem was, even that Speed was far greater than the top speed of Lin Xinghai’s Mecha.

And with the Hunter’s Attack Power, it was more than capable of destroying a Rare Level Mecha in short order.
