Invincible Snake Emperor
Chapter 783: Human Head
Chapter 783 -713: Human Head
Tu Xiao’an led Feng Linjie toward the mansion, discovering that the area was sealed off by tall, strangely shaped rock formations. In the very center of the basin stood the mansion itself. It was ancient and massive; a closer look revealed it to be an Azure Stone Hall.
The Azure Stone Hall was immense, but its entrance was pitifully small, looking as though it could only allow two people to pass through side-by-side. The stone hall also gave off an inscrutable feeling, as if it had existed for countless ages.
This was a true War Relic.
Tu Xiao’an slowly approached the entrance and looked up, taking in the sight of the stone hall.
The longer he looked, the more Tu Xiao’an marveled. ‘As expected of a War Relic. The scale is immense.’ This Azure Stone Hall made his Snake Palace seem insignificant by comparison. From a distance, it resembled a colossal beast’s maw, ready to devour a man, bones and all.
A mere glance at the hall was enough to stir a thread of fear in one’s heart.
Tu Xiao’an didn’t charge in rashly. Instead, he dispassionately scanned his surroundings and discovered a faint, green light flowing across the surface of the stone hall, almost imperceptibly.
It was nearly impossible to spot unless an external force made contact with it.
Someone had placed a prohibitive array on it.
Tu Xiao’an suddenly looked down, scanning the ground for any tracks. He found no footprints.
“My Lord, this must be the core of the War Relics,” Feng Linjie remarked from the side after observing the structure. “A stone hall this large is one of a kind. You’d only find something like this in a relic.”
In truth, this was also his first time seeing the Azure Stone Hall, and he was stunned by its magnificence.
He hadn’t made it this far before; he had deserted back when they encountered the Centipede Monster.
Even now, he still wanted to desert, but he no longer had a choice in the matter.
In the presence of this Snake Emperor, he had no freedom whatsoever.
“My Lord, shall we go in?” Feng Linjie asked when Tu Xiao’an didn’t respond.
Tu Xiao’an turned and shot him a look. “If we’re not going in, then why did I come here?”
“You go in first.”
Feng Linjie froze. ‘He wants me to go first? To use me as a disposable probe?’
“My Lord, I have another way.”
Feng Linjie wasn’t an idiot. Who knew what kind of traps were waiting for him?
Feng Linjie looked around and found a large bone from a dismantled Skeleton Monster. He tossed it into the air, and it flew like a dark shadow straight toward the hall’s entrance.
‘Now *that’s* how you test the path.’
FIZZ!
A green light flashed at the entrance. A Light Sect materialized, blocking the large bone and flinging it back several yards.
“Another Light Sect?”
Tu Xiao’an narrowed his eyes. ‘Could it be that only living things can enter?’
“Feng Linjie, hurry up and go in,” Tu Xiao’an said coolly. “Don’t make me throw you. That would be unpleasant.”
“My Lord, you can’t…”
Feng Linjie felt like crying. In the other man’s eyes, he, a High Rank War God, was worth less than dogshit.
He was the one stuck with all the dirty work.
If he’d known things would turn out like this, he never would have deserted in the first place.
“Hurry up. Didn’t you say saving people was the priority?”
Knowing he had no choice, Feng Linjie slowly approached the Light Sect, treading as if on thin ice.
He was extremely cautious, ready to pull back at the first sign of trouble.
But before Feng Linjie could even reach the Light Sect, its Energy surged. The next second, he vanished from Tu Xiao’an’s sight.
‘Huh? So he’s in?’
Tu Xiao’an pondered for a moment. ‘Forget it. I can’t be bothered to overthink this.’ His figure flashed, and he, too, vanished the moment he neared the Light Sect.
When Tu Xiao’an reappeared, he was inside a great hall within the Azure Stone Hall. He spotted Feng Linjie almost immediately.
But Feng Linjie was trembling all over and didn’t look well at all.
Tu Xiao’an followed his gaze to see what he was looking at and was startled to find a human head suspended in mid-air in the center of the hall.
There were no ropes, nothing holding it up. The head was just hanging there eerily.
Its eyes were wide open in an expression of one who could not rest in peace.
Blood was still dripping from the severed neck, suggesting the person hadn’t been dead for long.
Tu Xiao’an glanced at it a few times, then walked over to Feng Linjie with a frown. “Do you know him?”
Feng Linjie seemed to relax slightly at the sight of Tu Xiao’an, then said gravely, “His name is Canglin, a High Rank War God from T-City. He was ranked 17th on the official Heaven’s List, stronger even than me. He was one of the five who came in with Director Qin and Lord Luo.”
A renowned High Rank War God, dead in such a gruesome manner—his bloody head suspended in mid-air.
This War Relic was truly terrifying.
Feng Linjie’s decision to desert earlier had been absolutely the right one.
Tu Xiao’an stared at the head, his expression dark.
‘There were five of them originally. Feng Linjie wasn’t with them, so that makes four. Now one of them is dead.’
The bad feeling in Tu Xiao’an’s heart intensified. ‘Could Luo Ziyun have met with disaster as well?’
‘No, that can’t be!’
Tu Xiao’an shook his head. The great hall was plain to see; there was nothing in it aside from the suspended head.
‘Where are the others?’
Suddenly, a mocking voice echoed through the hall.
“Welcome, my two guests, to my residence. You’ve come a long way. As your host, I’ve used this head to prepare your reception. A delightful surprise, is it not?”
“Who’s there? Show yourself!”
Tu Xiao’an was startled and quickly scanned the area, trying to pinpoint the source of the voice.
But though he looked in every direction, he found nothing.
Tu Xiao’an glanced at Feng Linjie, who also shook his head, having found nothing.
It was as if the voice was coming from far away, broadcast through a hidden speaker in the hall.
The person in the shadows was playing hide-and-seek with him.
Or perhaps, they were simply toying with the intruders.
After all, he was the master of this place, and these uninvited outsiders were unwelcome guests.
No one could say for sure what a true War Relic contained, but one thing was certain: a powerful Exotic Beast was bound to exist within it.
Wencheng had its Ancient Taotie. And while Skeleton Mountain in X-City had appeared long ago, its War Relic had never been revealed.
If Director Qin and Luo Ziyun were in the first group to enter, then Tu Xiao’an and Feng Linjie were the second.
No one knew what kind of monsters and demons they would encounter.
The owner of the voice could be any kind of Demon Fiend or monster; it was a complete mystery.
Feng Linjie’s face was grim. The suspended head had clearly shaken him to the core. A renowned High Rank War God, and one stronger than him at that.
If someone like that could die so easily, what fate awaited him?
“Don’t be impatient, my guests. If you have the courage, please proceed. You will meet me soon enough.”
The mocking voice wasn’t coming from any single direction; it was all around them.
“The last group that came in… did you kill them all?”
Tu Xiao’an tilted his head up, calling his question into the empty air.
The answer to this question was crucial.
He couldn’t care less if the others lived or died. He was only here to find one person.
