Invincible Martial Artist from Foreseeing Opportunities
Chapter 111 - 86: Forcefully Slaying the Ox Demon, Sunset Like Blood
Xu Guang could clearly sense the helplessness in Duan Jue’s heart when he recounted that past event, but he couldn’t empathize with it.
Now that Duan Jue was dead, it was hard to say whether Ming Xiaochen had pulled any strings behind the scenes. At the very least, Duan Jue had once said that Ming Xiaochen was a rare genius in this world. Could he really not see Lin Yu’s intentions?
Issuing three Golden Decrees in succession would inevitably force Lin Yu to lash out in desperation once he became enraged from humiliation. But why did Ming Xiaochen want to force Lin Yu’s hand, making Duan Jue’s death a certainty? Duan Jue was now just the Feiyun City Guardian. Was he worth such an effort from Ming Xiaochen?
Furthermore, he thought of Lin Yu. Lin Yu didn’t dare send assassins after Duan Jue because Duan Jue used to manage the Mysterious Strange Pavilion, which suppressed the world’s Profound Caves. With such a violent organization, even if only one or two experts felt grateful to Duan Jue, Lin Yu wouldn’t dare make a move. Assassination was too underhanded and would easily provoke resentment. Therefore, Lin Yu chose to cooperate with the Yellow Heaven Sect so that the Feiyun City Guardian would die amidst the rebel army.
It was a perfect excuse. It could pacify Duan Jue’s old subordinates and boost his own authority, as he would become the main force suppressing the rebels.
Amidst all of this, Xu Guang stood too low and too far away. He couldn’t see the full picture, nor could he untangle the truth. Such schemes were common in history books; they had never been scarce in the past, and they would never cease in the future. All Xu Guang could do was stay far away from these matters. By relying on the Searcher, he would climb to the peak and do exactly as he pleased.
BOOM!
High in the distant sky, a figure crashed down, smashing into the houses in the distance. It was the Cold Blade Sect Leader, Han Qiufeng.
Xu Guang’s expression revealed his shock. At the same time, he saw many people—the green-robed Guan Mountain and the alluring Su Yuchan.
If anyone ever asked about the gap between the Second Transformation and just entering the Sensing Profound realm, Han Qiufeng had used his Life to test it. He had spent six breaths of time to carve out a path of survival for Su Yuchan.
Su Yuchan’s senses seemed incredibly sharp. Detecting someone watching from afar, she locked eyes with Xu Guang through the countless collapsed houses. She was expressionless, but Xu Guang’s Celestial Eye clearly caught the faint, imperceptible sorrow hiding in the depths of her gaze. He figured Han Qiufeng must have been very important to her.
However, neither of them made any sudden moves. They both turned away and embarked on their respective paths of escape.
The Wei River flowed endlessly. This rare, mighty river ran through the lands of the Great Qian Three States, irrigating countless farmlands and feeding innumerable commoners. Yet, its turbulent currents were known to all under heaven.
On the ground ten miles away from Feiyun City, a fissure suddenly split open. The Mountain Armor Monkey sneakily poked its head out, followed by a few figures stepping out from within.
The one leading them was none other than Xu Guang. Song Tao had already woken up, but his injuries were too severe for him to stand. The Cyan-Scaled Horse was also heavily injured, lifting one leg as it walked. Fortunately, they had finally made it out.
Song Tao lay on the horse’s back, his tone low and his face full of gratitude. "Thank you for saving my life, Lord Ming."
Xu Guang waved his hand dismissively. In a flash, he leaped onto a large tree to look out over the surface of the Wei River. He wondered where Ghostly Roar had taken Lu and the others.
Just as he was thinking, a sharp screech suddenly rang out in the air. A massive giant bird with white feathers and a red beak swooped down from the sky. It was a Messenger Owl.
Xu Guang couldn’t help but reveal a look of joy. This was the Messenger Owl guarding Ji Xiaolu; they were safe. Without further delay, he had Song Tao and the Cyan-Scaled Horse bring up the rear while he took the Mountain Armor Monkey and headed toward the banks of the Wei River.
As the sun set in the west, its dying light cast a thick, blood-red hue over the official road.
The evening glow over Feiyun City burned like fire.
