"Hold on," I said, holding up a finger as we walked out into the bright afternoon sun. "One more pit stop before we head to the high-rise. We need to get you some actual clothes."

Chloe stopped dead in her tracks, looking down at her oversized, faded hoodie and baggy jeans, then looked back up at me with her jaw slightly agape.

This time, there was no defensive panic or stubborn refusal. The spa had completely stripped away her rigid walls, leaving behind pure, unadulterated shock.

"More?" she gasped, shaking her head in utter disbelief. "You are literally an impulsive spender! Are you addicted to throwing money around, or do you just physically hurt if your bank account isn’t dropping every hour?"

"It’s an investment," I said with a light chuckle, popping the kickstand on my bike. "You’re moving into a luxury penthouse suite. You can’t be walking around looking like you’re permanently prepared for a three-day study marathon in a damp basement."

She let out a soft, defeated laugh, rubbing her temples, but a bright sparkle stayed in her eyes.

"Unbelievable," she whispered, though a small, fond smile played on her lips as she stepped over the bike’s rear rack again. "Fine. Lead the way, Mr. Impulsive. Let’s see what crazy store you’re taking me to now."

I pulled up outside an upscale, glass-fronted boutique in the city’s fashion district. The mannequins in the display windows were dressed in tailored blazers, sleek silk dresses, and designer leather goods.

Chloe took one look at the store’s pristine interior and hesitated at the threshold, her hands clutching the strap of her old backpack.

"We’re going in there?" she murmured, her voice laced with sudden anxiety.

"Yep," I said, pushing the heavy glass door open for her.

We stepped onto polished hardwood floors, where an impeccably dressed stylist offered a polite nod. I walked Chloe over to the center of the showroom, turned to face her, and held up a blank card linked straight to the proxy system.

"Here’s the deal," I said smoothly. "You have a $50,000 budget. Clothes, shoes, bags, accessories—whatever catches your eye. No limits, no holding back."

Chloe’s jaw dropped. She stared at me, then at the card, then back at me as if waiting for the hidden camera crew to jump out.

"Fifty... thousand?!" she nearly choked, dropping her voice to a frantic whisper. "Are you out of your mind?! That’s more than my entire tuition! I can’t spend that much on clothes!"

"You can, and you will," I replied with a smirk.

At first, her lack of confidence held her back. She hovered awkwardly near the racks, pulling out basic black sweaters or thumbing through her phone, frantically typing queries like "trending academic aesthetic" or "what to wear in high-end apartments." She was still trying to dress for other people’s approval, terrified of making a wrong choice.

I walked over, took the phone gently out of her hand, and locked the screen.

"Stop looking at what’s trending," I said, looking her straight in the eye. "Stop trying to fit into a box. Pick whatever you like. You’re not buying these to impress anyone else—you’re buying them because you deserve to feel good in them."

Her eyes widened slightly at my words. The message hit home.

She took a deep breath, set her old backpack on a lounge chair, and walked back to the racks with a completely different look in her eyes.

What followed was a total shopping spree. Chloe started pulling tailored trench coats, elegant silk blouses, high-waisted trousers, sleek leather heels, and structured shoulder bags off the displays. She tried on outfit after outfit, moving from subtle sophisticated pieces to sharp, modern streetwear. Every time she stepped out of the fitting room, her posture grew prouder and her smile brighter.

The sales staff practically ran around the store carrying armfuls of designer boxes for her.

As the cashier finished bagging the massive haul, Chloe walked over to me carrying a sleek luxury shopping bag, wearing a sharp, fitting cream jacket over a stylish top that made her look like a rising tech CEO rather than an exhausted student.

"How do I look?" she asked, a confident, radiant grin playing on her lips.

"You look incredible," I said, eyeing the sharp cream jacket and the effortless, high-end confidence radiating off her. "Like you own the place."

Chloe blushed, a soft pink dusting her cheeks, but she didn’t duck her head this time. Instead, she looked me up and down, taking in my faded plain t-shirt and worn shorts.

"What about you?" she asked, crossing her arms with a playful smirk. "You just dropped a fortune on me, Mr. Impulsive, but you’re still walking around in clothes that look like they’ve survived three laundry cycles too many."

"Don’t worry about me," I chuckled, picking up a couple of the heavier shopping bags. "I’ll get what I need soon enough. Right now, this is about getting you settled."

As we walked out of the store into the bright afternoon, the weight of the massive haul finally set in for her. Chloe slowed her pace, looking down at the sleek designer bags in her hands. Her expression shifted from excitement to a deep, quiet hesitation.

"I... I don’t even know how I’m ever going to repay you for all of this," she murmured, her voice laced with sudden vulnerability. "The spa, the clothes, the $40k penthouse... it’s too much. I feel like I’m taking advantage of you."

I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at her.

I could see the gears turning in her head. If she felt like this was just charity, she’d spend every single day in that apartment feeling guilty, burdened by a debt she couldn’t pay back. That guilt would crush the very confidence we were building.

I set the bags down on a nearby stone bench and looked her straight in the eye.

"You want to repay me?" I asked softly, taking a step closer.

Chloe blinked, taken aback. "I... yes! Anything. I can write your papers, help you study, manage your schedule—"

"I don’t want a study assistant, Chloe," I interrupted, cutting off her frantic rambling. "There is actually something I want."

She paused, her breathing hitching slightly as she looked up at me through her glasses. "What?"

"I want you to be my girlfriend."
