Investing In My Crippled Heavenly Empress Wife Gets 100,000x Returns
Chapter 61: At This Moment, She Is So Sweet and So Happy (2)
She craved this brief moment of warmth from being brought back by him, even if it was just self-deception.
Chen Chuan naturally knew Ji Siyu had already woken up.
But he didn’t expose her, silently taking out a waterskin instead.
He then took out a clean container, filled it with some rainwater, and placed it over the fire to boil.
Next, he produced a healing Medicinal Pill that emitted a faint fragrance.
To feed her the medicine, he couldn’t just let her keep lying there.
Chen Chuan leaned over, his movements not exactly gentle but careful enough as he helped Ji Siyu up, letting her lean against him.
When her back touched that warm chest and she felt that steady, powerful heartbeat, Ji Siyu’s heart gave a violent tremor.
An indescribable warm current instantly surged through her entire body, almost bringing her to tears.
She could no longer pretend; her thick eyelashes fluttered a few times, and she slowly opened her eyes.
What came into view was Chen Chuan’s well-defined jawline.
Ji Siyu looked up, and although her face was still pale and weak, it blossomed into an incredibly happy smile.
She whispered softly, "I knew you had me in your heart."
Her voice was very soft, carrying the raspiness of having survived a disaster and an undisguisable affection.
Chen Chuan’s body stiffened almost imperceptibly, but he didn’t respond to those words.
He simply handed the warmed water and the Medicinal Pill to her lips with an expressionless face, his tone flat:
"Take the medicine."
Ji Siyu obediently opened her mouth and swallowed the pill and water.
The warm liquid slid down her throat, seemingly warming her frozen limbs and bones as well.
After she finished the medicine, Chen Chuan gently laid her back down and stood up to sit near the cave entrance.
With his back to Ji Siyu, Chen Chuan said, "Rest well. I’ll take the night watch."
Looking at Chen Chuan’s profile, which looked somewhat lonely in the firelight, a faint smile unconsciously appeared on Ji Siyu’s pale face.
She could feel that the ice-like relationship between the two seemed to have developed a crack.
Though he was still taciturn and distant in attitude, his actions had already explained everything.
She could even vaguely sense that Chen Chuan seemed to be worried about something.
She secretly guessed that he might be worried she would distrust and hurt him again like before.
"I won’t. Never again," Ji Siyu swore silently in her heart.
Late into the night, the torrential rain outside showed no signs of stopping; instead, it grew even more rampant.
Chen Chuan sat cross-legged near the entrance, eyes closed as he regulated his breathing, yet he didn’t fall asleep, remaining alert to the movements outside at all times.
And Ji Siyu couldn’t sleep at all.
Because she had secretly used a faint amount of spiritual power to quietly dissipate most of the medicinal power from the pill she had just taken.
Her injuries hadn’t healed to begin with, and she had endured the ravages of the wind and rain; her body was extremely weak.
Now that the medicinal power was gone, the chill and internal injuries erupted simultaneously, and she began to run a high fever.
"So cold..."
She curled her body, whispering with a trembling voice that sounded exceptionally clear in the silent cave.
Hearing this, Chen Chuan opened his eyes and stood up to walk over.
He squatted down and reached out to touch Ji Siyu’s forehead; it was burning hot to the touch, giving him a start.
"How can this be?" he wondered to himself.
"I clearly gave her a Medicinal Pill. Even if she couldn’t recover immediately, she shouldn’t have developed such a high fever, and her injuries shouldn’t have worsened?"
He carefully sensed the Qi within Ji Siyu’s body and soon discovered the anomaly.
Almost none of the medicinal power from that pill remained.
She had clearly dissipated it herself in secret.
Chen Chuan understood instantly.
He looked at the woman before him, who was delirious with fever yet still subconsciously crying out that she was cold, and felt speechless.
He really couldn’t fathom what was going on in this woman’s head.
Did she have to torment herself like this?
"Cold... Chen Chuan, I’m so cold..."
Ji Siyu murmured unconsciously.
Her body leaned slightly toward where he was.
Looking at her like this, how could Chen Chuan not understand her intentions?
She was using this almost self-mutilating method to try to close the distance between them and gain his pity.
He stood there in silence, his heart undergoing a final struggle.
Looking at her cheeks, which were flushed with an unnatural red from the high fever.
Listening to her unconscious mutterings.
Those worries about the God Emperor’s Reincarnation and the uncertainties of the future...
At this moment, they seemed to be diluted by the real and fragile woman before him.
What would the future bring? Who could say for sure?
At least for now, she needed him.
Forget it.
Chen Chuan sighed softly, as if he had set down some heavy burden.
He took out another Medicinal Pill and carefully fed it to Ji Siyu.
This time, Ji Siyu didn’t resist and swallowed it obediently.
But after taking the medicine, she still curled up, saying in a small voice, "Still cold."
Chen Chuan knew exactly what she was doing.
But this time, he didn’t hesitate anymore, nor did he expose her little trick.
He walked over to her, sat down against the cave wall, and then reached out.
His movement was slightly stiff, yet he firmly pulled that shivering, burning hot, and soft body into his embrace.
The moment she was actively pulled into Chen Chuan’s embrace, Ji Siyu’s delicate body gave a violent tremor.
The grievances, bitterness, waiting, and love that had been suppressed for far too long were like a flood breaking through a dam, no longer controllable.
Scalding tears instantly burst from her eyes, quickly soaking the front of Chen Chuan’s clothes.
She didn’t make a sound, only burying her face deep into his chest, breathing in forcefully that scent that belonged only to him and made her feel at peace.
Feeling the slight tremor of the body in his arms and the dampness on his chest, Chen Chuan’s arm tightened slightly.
With tear stains still wet on her face, the corners of Ji Siyu’s mouth curled into an unprecedented arc of sweetness and happiness.
This warmth.
This security.
It was something she had only gained after experiencing life and death and searching bitterly.
In this warm and safe embrace, all her fatigue and weakness surged up together.
She finally couldn’t hold on any longer and, with a satisfied smile, fell into a deep sleep.
Outside the cave, the wind and rain continued to rage.
Inside, the firelight flickered, illuminating a pair of figures embracing; warmth quietly spread, dispelling the cold night and seemingly melting some of the ice.
