Chapter 60: At This Moment, She Is So Sweet and So Happy (1)
The light in the forest gradually dimmed to a dusky yellow, signaling the end of the day.
Chen Chuan walked ahead, his pace seemingly steady, yet significantly slower than usual.
He knew Ji Siyu was severely injured and that keeping up with him was already a struggle.
He might not have given much thought to this unconscious consideration.
But in Ji Siyu’s beautiful eyes, it became a faint yet steady light in the darkness.
Ji Siyu struggled to keep up with that figure from behind.
She keenly sensed Chen Chuan’s deliberate slowing of his pace, and her heart couldn’t help but ripple with threads of sweetness.
He wasn’t as cold and heartless as he appeared; he still cared.
However, he never once looked back, nor did he say a single irrelevant word to her.
That straight back seemed to build an invisible wall, separating the two.
"He’s still angry, still struggling."
Ji Siyu thought sourly to herself.
In this silent and subtle atmosphere, the two walked one after the other through the increasingly dark mountain forest.
The sky grew gloomier, and heavy dark clouds gathered from all directions, pressing down until it was hard to breathe.
Finally, just before night completely shrouded the mountains, bean-sized raindrops smashed down without warning, followed immediately by a torrential downpour.
Wild winds howled as they swept through the forest, swirling dead branches and fallen leaves, causing even the towering ancient trees to shake violently.
The temperature plummeted, and a chill seeped into the bones along with the wind and rain.
The occasional roars of beasts gradually subsided as the Demonic Beasts also sought shelter from the rain.
Chen Chuan frowned and quickened his pace, his sharp gaze scanning the surroundings.
Soon, he found a dry cave.
He cautiously scouted it, and after confirming there were no signs of Demonic Beasts inhabiting it, he slipped inside.
The interior of the cave was quite spacious, blocking out the wind and rain outside; it suddenly became much quieter, with only the sound of rain and wind clamoring outside the entrance.
Chen Chuan started a fire, the orange flames dancing and dispelling the darkness and some of the chill within the cave.
He sat by the fire, tidying his slightly damp clothes, but his gaze involuntarily flicked toward the cave entrance.
He had thought Ji Siyu would follow him in immediately.
However, as time ticked by, that familiar figure never appeared at the entrance.
Doubt rose in Chen Chuan’s heart, and he stood up, walking to the edge of the entrance to look out.
The torrential rain was like a curtain across the sky, and the wild winds raged.
Ji Siyu just stood there quietly in the rain curtain not far from the cave, her frail body swaying in the wind and rain.
The rain had long since soaked her through; her plain dress clung tightly to her body, outlining a slender and bedraggled silhouette that looked all the more pitiable.
Her face was as pale as if all blood had drained from it, her lips were frozen purple, and her already injured body was clearly even weaker.
But her eyes remained stubborn.
She stared unblinkingly toward the cave, toward where he was.
She was waiting for him, waiting for an attitude, waiting for his forgiveness.
Seeing her like this, Chen Chuan felt a surge of inexplicable irritation and frustration.
Just what was this woman being so stubborn about?
Was she trying to force him by harming herself?
He retreated to the fire but did not sit down, his heart falling into a deeper struggle.
He wasn’t made of stone; he had seen everything Ji Siyu had done for him.
Her persistence in the rain at this moment was like fine silk threads wrapping around his heart.
However, a more profound issue loomed over his heart like a dark cloud: Ji Siyu was the Reincarnation of a God Emperor.
Once she awakened her past life’s memories and returned to that supreme position of God Emperor to look down upon all living beings...
At that time, would she still be the Ji Siyu before him, the one who begged humbly and disregarded life and death for him?
Would that mortal emotion be so insignificant it wasn’t worth mentioning in the face of the vast memories and power of a God Emperor?
He didn’t want to invest all his feelings only to end up as strangers or even be forgotten.
This uncertainty made him afraid to easily open his heart.
Outside the cave, the wind and rain grew even more intense.
Night had completely fallen, and darkness enveloped the land; only the firelight inside the cave provided a faint sense of security.
Ji Siyu stood in the rain, her body shivering with cold, her teeth chattering.
The cold and her injuries intertwined, making her feel as if the world were spinning, as if she would collapse into the mud at any moment.
She could have completely utilized the Nirvana Scripture to heal her injuries, but she didn’t.
With an almost self-destructive obstinacy, she wanted Chen Chuan to see her current misery, wanting to stir even a tiny bit of heartache in him.
Finally, Chen Chuan couldn’t harden his heart after all.
He walked to the entrance and spoke in a low voice to the figure in the rain that was almost merging with the darkness:
"Come in."
His voice wasn’t loud, but it reached Ji Siyu’s ears clearly through the sound of the wind and rain.
A massive surge of joy instantly rose in Ji Siyu’s heart; he did care about her after all.
But she forced a stubborn look onto her face and shook her head, her voice weak but firm:
"If you don’t forgive me, I’ll stay outside."
She wanted more than just a place to escape the rain.
Chen Chuan’s brow furrowed tightly as he looked at her weak yet stubborn appearance, his tone growing a bit heavier:
"Come in. Don’t make me say it a third time."
However, Ji Siyu only looked at him with eyes filled with tears; her lips moved slightly, but she couldn’t make a sound.
Her body had reached its limit; a strong sense of dizziness hit her, and her vision began to blur.
Finally, in the moment before the overwhelming darkness swallowed her consciousness...
She saw that figure rush out of the cave at an incredibly fast speed.
Immediately after, she fell into a warm and solid embrace, completely losing consciousness.
The moment she went limp, Chen Chuan was already by her side, scooping her up in his arms.
What he felt was icy cold and soaking wet.
Without hesitation, he immediately carried her back into the cave and carefully placed her on a dry patch of ground near the fire.
Inside the cave, the firelight danced.
Chen Chuan added some firewood to make the flames burn brighter.
He looked down at Ji Siyu lying on the ground.
Her eyes were tightly shut, water droplets still hung on her long eyelashes, her face was as pale as paper, her lips were an unhealthy blue-purple, and she was soaked through.
At this moment, Ji Siyu looked as bedraggled as an abandoned little beast.
Chen Chuan’s expression was complex and hard to describe—there was helplessness, annoyance, and a trace of imperceptible heartache.
In fact, not long after Ji Siyu fainted, she had already slowly woken up.
But she didn’t dare open her eyes.
She was afraid that as soon as she opened them, she would see Chen Chuan’s eyes, still cold and distant.
Afraid to hear him speak words of finality again.
