Chapter 51 — The Foundation of a Territory

Morning arrived quietly.

Aether stood outside the cave, looking over the surrounding forest.

The place was still wild.

Trees stretched in every direction, broken only by scattered rocks, small clearings, and the occasional trail left by beasts.

It wasn't a territory yet.

It was barely a home.

But every great territory had started somewhere.

Aether opened the system.

[Current Location: B-Grade Origin Zone]

[Home Territory: Temporary]

[Territory Development: 1%]

[Requirements for Permanent Territory:]

[1. Stable Core Formation.]

[2. Defensive Boundary.]

[3. Origin Resource Source.]

[4. Territory Anchor.]

[5. Minimum Controlled Area: 500 meters.]

Aether studied the requirements.

"So that's the minimum."

Aria stood beside him with Starfall resting against her shoulder.

"Five hundred meters doesn't sound like much."

"It isn't."

Aether looked toward the forest.

"But it's enough to start."

Lyra walked out of the cave, stretching after her night's cultivation.

"What are we doing first?"

"Finding the territory anchor."

Lyra looked confused.

"What is that?"

"Something that connects the territory to its owner."

Aether continued reading.

[Territory Anchor: Unknown.]

[Recommended sources:]

[— Ancient Origin Crystals]

[— High-grade Origin Cores]

[— Origin Relics]

[— Natural Territory Cores]

Aether closed the interface.

"We'll search for a natural one first."

"Why?"

"Because I don't want to waste rare resources if the land itself can provide what we need."

Aria nodded.

"Where do we search?"

Aether looked around.

"The highest Origin concentration should be nearby."

He activated Origin Sense.

The world changed.

The forest became a network of flowing energy.

Thin Origin currents moved beneath the ground.

Some were weak.

Others were dense.

One stream caught his attention.

It wasn't coming from the cave.

It was coming from deeper underground.

"There."

Aether pointed toward the eastern forest.

Lyra smiled.

"Another underground mystery?"

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

"Hopefully a useful one this time."

They began moving.

Nyx followed close behind.

The forest was unusually quiet.

Too quiet.

Aether noticed it almost immediately.

There were fewer beasts than yesterday.

Not because the area was empty.

They could sense them.

Small movements came from the trees.

Leaves rustled.

Branches shifted.

But none of the beasts approached.

"They're avoiding us," Aria said.

Aether nodded.

"Probably the formation."

His concealment formation didn't only hide their presence from distant observers.

It also distorted the natural perception of weaker beasts.

That was useful.

But there was another possibility.

Aether looked north.

The strange activity there was still affecting the surrounding region.

He didn't like it.

But he couldn't investigate everything at once.

"We keep moving."

After nearly twenty minutes, they reached a rocky slope.

Aether stopped.

The Origin flow beneath them was much stronger.

He crouched and placed his palm against the ground.

The soil vibrated faintly.

"There."

He released Origin Energy.

The ground cracked.

A small section of stone sank.

An underground passage appeared.

Lyra stared at it.

"You found another cave."

"No."

Aether looked down.

"This was constructed."

The walls beneath the ground were too smooth.

Ancient stone.

Ancient formations.

And once again—

the eye symbol.

Except this time, it wasn't surrounded by broken rings.

There was only a single complete ring around it.

Aether's expression became serious.

"This is different."

Aria stepped closer.

"Older?"

"Maybe."

He couldn't determine the age.

The system wasn't giving him enough information.

[Ancient structure detected.]

[Origin composition: Unknown.]

[Structural integrity: 61%.]

[Function: Unknown.]

Aether entered.

The passage extended downward.

Unlike the previous inheritance chamber, there were no traps.

No ancient projections.

No overwhelming pressure.

Just silence.

After several minutes, they reached a large underground cavern.

A natural pool occupied its center.

The water was perfectly clear.

But beneath the surface—

something was glowing.

Aether approached.

The system immediately reacted.

[Natural Origin resource detected.]

[Resource: Origin Spring.]

Aether's eyes brightened.

"Now that's useful."

Lyra crouched beside the pool.

"How useful?"

"Very."

The system continued.

[Origin Spring Quality: High.]

[Origin Energy Purity: 94%.]

[Estimated regeneration: Stable.]

[Current output: Moderate.]

Aether examined the surrounding cavern.

The spring was connected to several underground Origin veins.

That explained the energy concentration.

This wasn't merely a pool.

It was a natural source.

Aether smiled.

"This can become the core resource of our territory."

Aria looked around.

"Can we connect it to the cave?"

"Eventually."

Aether studied the underground veins.

"But we shouldn't move the spring itself."

"Why?"

"Because it's naturally stable."

He pointed toward the surrounding formations.

"If we disturb these veins, we might damage the entire source."

Lyra nodded.

"So we build around it."

"Exactly."

Aether opened the territory interface again.

[Origin Resource Source detected.]

[Requirement Three: Complete.]

Aether's eyes narrowed.

"Three down."

Only two remained.

The stable core formation was already being developed.

The defensive boundary would take more work.

But the territory anchor remained the biggest problem.

Aether looked at the spring.

"Can this be the anchor?"

[Negative.]

"Why?"

[Origin Spring is a resource source, not an ownership anchor.]

Aether sighed.

"Of course."

Then Nyx suddenly walked toward the far wall.

She stopped beneath another eye symbol.

Her silver forehead mark began glowing.

Aether immediately followed.

The wall had no visible entrance.

But Nyx placed one paw against it.

The stone reacted.

A faint silver line appeared.

Aether's eyes narrowed.

"Move."

Nyx stepped aside.

Aether placed his palm against the mark.

The stone opened.

Behind it was a small chamber.

And inside—

was a crystal.

Unlike ordinary Origin Crystals, this one looked like a miniature tree.

Its translucent branches extended upward from a black stone base.

Silver energy flowed through them.

The system activated.

[Unknown Origin Relic detected.]

[Classification: Territory Anchor.]

Aether stared at it.

For the first time that morning, he smiled.

"Found it."

The system continued.

[Territory Anchor condition satisfied.]

[Compatibility with host: 96.4%.]

[Warning: Anchor is dormant.]

Aether walked closer.

"Can I activate it?"

[Activation requires Origin infusion.]

"How much?"

The system paused.

[Estimated requirement: 300 Origin Points.]

Aether's expression flattened.

"Of course."

Lyra laughed.

"You need 300 points?"

"No."

Aether looked at the crystal.

"I need to accumulate 300 points."

Aria smiled.

"That might take a while."

Aether nodded.

"Which is fine."

He wasn't in a hurry.

The territory wasn't going anywhere.

He carefully stored the dormant anchor without damaging its connection to the surrounding structure.

Then the system displayed a new message.

[Territory Development Objective updated.]

[Current Territory Progress: 37%.]

[Required Origin Points for Anchor Activation: 300.]

[Current Origin Points: 200/300.]

Aether stared at the numbers.

He needed 100 points to reach Stage 5.

Then another 300 would be required to activate the territory anchor.

That meant he had work to do.

A lot of it.

He looked at Lyra and Aria.

"We're going hunting."

Lyra immediately smiled.

"I was waiting for you to say that."

Aria adjusted her grip on Starfall.

"How many?"

Aether looked toward the forest.

"Enough."

He wasn't interested in mindlessly slaughtering every beast in the area.

The goal was growth.

Resources.

Territory development.

And eventually, a stable foundation.

They left the underground cavern.

But before Aether reached the surface, his system suddenly displayed another message.

[Territory Anchor resonance detected.]

Aether stopped.

The crystal inside his storage space was vibrating.

[External Origin signature detected.]

[Direction: North.]

Aether's expression hardened.

Again.

The north.

He closed his eyes and expanded his Origin Sense.

For several seconds, nothing happened.

Then he felt it.

A distant pulse.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

It wasn't a beast.

It wasn't human.

It felt like something enormous was slowly becoming aware of the world.

Aether opened his eyes.

"Something is using the same Origin network."

Lyra looked toward him.

"Could it be the Watcher?"

"Maybe."

Aria asked, "And if it is?"

Aether glanced at the dormant territory anchor.

"It knows we're building something."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Then we'll build faster."

He stepped into the forest.

The hunt had begun.

And far beneath the northern mountains, another crack spread through the ancient seal.

This time—

the sound of something breathing echoed through the darkness.
