INFINITE MEMORIES : MY F-RANK SKILL IS ACTUALLY THE STRONGEST
Chapter 102: HARVESTER’S DESCENT
<Chapter - 102 The Harvester’s Descent>
The three-mile-long obsidian dreadnought of the Void Vanguard Harvesters hung suspended in the upper atmosphere like a jagged celestial blade.
Its dark hull, composed of interlocking hexagonal plates of pre-Cataclysm starry alloy, absorbed the morning sunlight, casting a freezing shadow that stretched across the mountain ranges of the Central Continent. Along its spine, pulsing jade conduits hummed with ancient gravitational mana, creating a downward atmospheric pressure so immense that the clouds below were crushed into a thin, swirling ring of white mist.
Across the continent, millions of commoners looked up at the sky in bewildered silence. Without corporate propaganda broadcasts or Church inquisitors dictating what to fear, the people simply watched the heavens crack open.
On the high stone terrace of the Central Stronghold, the air was dense and cold.
"Boss! Boss, look at the energy spectrum!" Alistair Vance cried out, his trembling hands frantically operating his brass telemetry scanner. "That vessel’s main propulsion is drawing power from an unsealed Void Rift! Its outer hull carries seven layers of spatial compression plating! That’s not corporate alloy—that’s 12th-Cycle Extinction Metal!"
"Calm down, Alistair," Noah Kurtz said smoothly, his hands shoved deep into his dark coat pockets.
Noah stood at the edge of the balustrade, ash-black hair blowing slightly in the descending cosmic updraft. Pinned over his chest lapel, the ironwood leaf brooch absorbed the faint jade glow falling from the dreadnought above. Underneath his sleeves, his black ironwood forearm guards circulated his Root Authority in a silent, zero-waste loop.
Beside him, her shoulder brushing gently against his arm, stood Rin Asakura.
Rin’s lavender kimono swished gracefully in the rising wind. Her crystalline violet eyes, bright and clear under the morning light, tracked the massive alien vessel. With her sight fully restored and merged with the infinite depth of Asura’s Touch, Rin did not simply see a warship; she saw the vessel’s internal kinetic flow—the massive gravitational engine churning at its core, and the hundreds of mechanical life signatures mobilizing inside its launch bays.
Slowly, Rin turned her face toward Noah, her violet irises catching the reflection of his steel-gray eyes.
"They do not view this world as a home, Noah..." Rin whispered softly, her melodic, formal cadence carrying an intimate, calm clarity. "Their pulse is hungry. They see our sky as a field of grain waiting to be reaped."
Noah turned his head, looking down into her violet eyes with a quiet, genuine warmth. He reached out with his right hand, his calloused fingers sliding smoothly between hers, entwining their hands over the cool balustrade.
"The Void Harvesters never planted anything, Rin," Noah spoke calmly, his flat voice carrying the weight of ancient memories. "In the 12th Cycle, they scavenged dead worlds after the Cataclysm broke them. They think Earth is just another carcass."
Rin squeezed his hand gently, her pale lips curving into a serene, breathtaking smile. "Then we will remind them that this world is alive."
SCREEECH—!
From the belly of the three-mile dreadnought, a massive circular bay door ground open.
Descending on pillars of jade-green anti-gravity light came three hundred Void Skiff Interceptors—slender, twenty-foot crafts made of dark obsidian, armed with twin heavy plasma-lance cannons. Leading the armada was a towering, ten-foot-tall mechanical commander clad in spiked, star-iron armor: Harvester Vanguard Malakor.
Malakor hovered fifty feet above the stronghold terrace, supported by a pair of buzzing jade thrusters built into his spine. His faceplate slid back to reveal a leathery, pale humanoid face marked with glowing green circuitry lines.
"ATTENTION INDIGENOUS SPECIMENS," Malakor’s voice boomed through external speakers, amplified by crushing telepathic force that shook the stone tiles. "BY THE EDICT OF THE SEVENTH VOID SECT, TERRA-ZERO HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A TIER-IV EXTINCT CYCLE HARVEST ZONE. ALL SYSTEM CORES, PRE-CATACLYSM ARTIFACTS, AND HIGH-DENSITY BIOMASS WILL BE STRIPPED FOR SECT ENRICHMENT. LOWER YOUR WEAPONS AND SUBMIT TO THE EXTRACTION PENS."
Jiho Park, who had just set down his fourth empty soup bowl on the stone table, stood up and stretched his broad shoulders.
The S-Rank Juggernaut scratched the back of his neck, his faded slide sandals clicking lazily against the flagstones as he trudged to the front of the terrace. He looked up at the three hundred hovering alien skiffs, then turned his droopy eyes toward Noah.
"Master," Jiho mumbled, letting out a sleepy sigh. "That tall green guy just called us ’specimens’ and said he wants to put us in a pen. Does he know that meat from a pen tastes terrible?"
"He doesn’t know much about food, Jiho," Noah replied flatly, his posture completely relaxed.
"Can I teach him?" Jiho asked, his droopy eyes flashing with genuine hope.
"Take down his left flank," Noah commanded gently.
"Got it, Master!" Jiho grinned.
Jiho didn’t wait for the alien armada to open fire. The broad giant planted his heels into the terrace, took a deep breath, and crouched low.
BOOM—!
With a meteoric leap that cracked the reinforced stone floor, Jiho propelled himself straight into the sky.
"INTERCEPT THE INCOMING BRUTE!" Malakor barked in disbelief. "UNLEASH THE PLASMA LANCES!"
Fifty Void Skiffs locked their cannons onto Jiho mid-air, unleashing a concentrated barrage of searing emerald plasma beams. Each blast carried enough thermal heat to vaporize steel plating.
SZZZZZT—!
The plasma storm enveloped Jiho completely. But as the green smoke parted, Jiho was not only unharmed—his S-Rank physical density had absorbed the thermal energy like a warm bath.
Jiho reached out with his bare, monstrous hands, grabbing the nose cones of two Void Skiffs mid-flight. With a cheerful grunt, he smashed the two twenty-foot vessels together like a pair of cymbals.
KABOOM!
The exploded wreckage rained down as Jiho used the falling debris as stepping stones, vaulting from skiff to skiff, ripping wings off engines and tossing multi-ton starcrafts into one another like flying toy blocks.
On the terrace, Chloe Harrington drew both dead platinum revolvers with a crisp, fluid snap.
Her amber eyes glowed with brilliant golden probability lines as she read the chaotic cross-trajectories of the remaining two hundred and fifty alien skiffs. She flipped her silver coin high into the air with her left thumb.
Clink.
"Probability vectors for alien engineering: severely flawed," Chloe smirked rebelliously.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Chloe fired four unpowered iron rounds into the sky.
The bullets didn’t fly straight. Guided by her passive Probability Distortion, the kinetic slugs ricocheted off a falling piece of Jiho’s broken skiff hull, bouncing at impossible angles straight through the main fuel intake valves of four separate command vessels.
POP-POP-POP-POP!
A chain-reaction fuel failure rippled through the central armada. Forty alien skiffs stalled simultaneously, their jade thrusters misfiring as they spiraled out of control and collided into the canyon walls below in massive balls of emerald flame.
"WHAT IS THIS ANOMALY?!" Malakor shrieked through his comms array, watching his vanguard fleet disintegrate in under sixty seconds. "THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PRIMITIVE SPECIMENS FROM A QUARANTINED GRAVEYARD!"
Malakor locked his glowing green eyes onto the slouching young man standing calmly on the terrace. He raised a massive, two-handed Star-Cleaver Halberd, igniting its blade with crackling void lightning.
"DIE, HERETIC!" Malakor roared, diving straight at Noah’s chest at Mach 3.
Noah Kurtz did not draw a dagger. He did not flinch.
Ashen Step: Zero Void.
Noah shifted his weight smoothly, stepping into the slipstream of Malakor’s dive with effortless, fluid grace. Pinned to his tunic, the dark ironwood leaf brooch absorbed the halberd’s lightning before it could even spark.
Noah caught the shaft of the ten-foot halberd with his left forearm guard, completely neutralizing its Mach-3 momentum with zero kinetic bounce.
Malakor’s pale face froze in primal horror. "My kinetic momentum... stripped?!"
"You came three cycles too late, Malakor," Noah spoke softly, his steel-gray eyes cold and clinical.
Beside Noah, moving in perfect, synchronized harmony, Rin Asakura stepped smoothly into Malakor’s blind spot.
Her violet eyes burned with lethal, serene clarity. Rin drew her wooden practice sword in a single, flowing arc, channeling Noah’s shared Root Ki directly along the blade.
SHING—!
The wooden sword struck Malakor’s star-iron breastplate. The ancient 12th-Cycle metal did not dent; it severed cleanly along its molecular grain, shattering the armor and crushing Malakor’s void thruster in a single, decisive blow.
Malakor crashed onto the terrace stone, gasping for air as his severed armor clattered across the flagstones. He looked up, trembling in utter shock at the slouching young man and the violet-eyed swordswoman standing hand-in-hand above him.
"Who... who are you...?" Malakor wheezed.
Noah looked down at the defeated alien commander, his steel-gray eyes carrying the calm authority of an ancient emperor.
"Tell your Seventh Void Sect," Noah Kurtz said quietly. "Terra-Zero is no longer a harvest zone. The Ashen Sovereign has returned."
Rin turned her violet eyes up toward the massive dreadnought hanging in the sky, her fingers tightening their gentle hold around Noah’s palm.
"And our sky, Noah," Rin murmured softly, a breathtaking smile touching her lips, "remains unbroken."
