Chapter 109: Three Guilds, Three Faces
’The truth. Two hundred and thirty-one healed patients. That’s not a narrative. That’s evidence. The Crown can manufacture doubt but they can’t manufacture away the people I’ve healed. Every one of them is a living refutation of every lie the Crown tells.’
"One more thing," Alvian said. "I want the Bloodhound contract evidence organized. Every document. Every notary seal. Every financial trace. If the fracturing Guilds want a tribunal, we give them a tribunal. And we give them the evidence to make it stick." ℯℯ𝑙.
Serah’s voice came through the communication crystal. She was still walking, still processing. "Alvian. There’s something I didn’t say to Valerius. Something I wanted to discuss with you first."
"What?"
"The healing array is self-sustaining. It doesn’t need you. The Guilds know that. They could take the technology, build their own arrays, and cut you out entirely. What’s to stop them from allying with us just long enough to learn what they need, then discarding you?"
’Nothing. Nothing stops them. Except leverage. And the leverage is that only I can make the central focus crystals. Only I have Genesis Forge. They can build the infrastructure but they can’t make the heart. Not without me.’
"They can’t reproduce the central focus," Alvian said. "The biological-crystalline hybrid requires Genesis Forge. That’s our leverage. We provide the crystals. They provide the infrastructure. If they discard us, the arrays stop working when the crystals degrade."
"And if they find another way to make the crystals?"
"Then we’ve already changed the world. And that’s worth more than any alliance."
The communication crystal pulsed. Serah’s footsteps continued, steady and sure, carrying her back to the Undercity where the political revolution had begun and would continue.
[DING!]
[Political status updated]
[Alliance offer: UNDER REVIEW]
[Intelligence gathered: Significant]
[Threat level: MODERATE (Crown surveillance, smear campaign)]
[Opportunity: HIGH (three Guilds ready to break, tribunal evidence ready)]

The week began with maps.
Alvian spread three hand-drawn locations across Tobias’s kitchen table. Undercity market. Academy courtyard. A tavern in the merchant district called The Rusted Anvil. Each one public. Each one with enough foot traffic to provide witness cover. Each one different enough that no pattern could be traced.
"One meeting per day," he said. "Serah handles the conversations. I monitor through the crystal. Tobias handles security at each location."
Tobias leaned over the maps, his new arm resting on the table with a soft hum. "The market is safe. Undercity territory, our people everywhere. The Academy courtyard is risky. Crown surveillance drones circle twice hourly. The tavern is Guild-affiliated, which means Guild eyes on everything."
"That’s the point. Each location provides different witness cover. The market shows Undercity support. The Academy shows public legitimacy. The tavern shows Guild willingness to host the conversation."
Serah studied the schedule. "Three days. Three Guild leaders. Three different demands."
"Three different people," Alvian corrected. "Thorn wants pragmatic alliance. Vex wants technology. Ashby wants purpose. We give each one what they need and take what we need."
’Diplomacy is just combat with better manners. You read the opponent, find the weakness, exploit it. The difference is the weapon. Instead of dissolution, the weapon is leverage. Instead of INT 214 calculating combat angles, it calculates political angles.’
’The old Alvian would have found this boring. The new Alvian finds it necessary. Power that can’t be used politically is power that gets you killed.’

**Day One: The Undercity Market**
The thirteenth level market was a sprawl of shipping containers and salvaged stalls, the air thick with the smell of fried noodles and dimensional residue. Serah arrived at noon, when foot traffic peaked. She wore her research attire, circuitry wire in her hair, pad on her hip. She looked like a scholar browsing for salvage components.
Guildmaster Elara Thorn was already there. The woman stood at a stall selling crawler cores, examining the merchandise with the practiced eye of someone who had spent thirty years pulling similar cores from Warrens tunnels. She was fifty-three, weathered, with a scar running from her left ear to her jaw. Level 58. B-Rank Stone Sense. She moved like someone who expected the ground to betray her at any moment.
Through the communication crystal, Alvian watched Serah approach. Thorn didn’t pretend. She didn’t pick up a book or browse a shelf. She turned, looked Serah in the eye, and spoke.
"You’re the researcher."
"And you’re the Guildmaster who sent three delvers to my partner’s healing array."
Thorn pulled a flask from her coat. Drank. Wiped her mouth. "Your man healed three of my delvers. Their injuries were six months old. Dimensional scarring that the Healer’s Assembly called permanent. He fixed them in an afternoon." She paused. "The Crown calls him an enemy. I call him a business partner. What does he want?"
Serah delivered the prepared answer without hesitation. "Access to the Warrens for research. Non-interference with Undercity sovereignty. And a public tribunal on the Bloodhound contract."
Thorn agreed before Serah finished speaking. "The Consortium’s been choked by Crown-loyal magistrates for years. Every deep dive permit gets blocked. Every Warrens expansion gets denied. A corruption tribunal serves our interests more than yours."
"The Bloodhound contract bears Guild Magistrate Hollis Thorne’s notary seal. His superior, Chief Magistrate Aldric Wren, approved the contracts."
"I know." Thorn’s scar twisted with her smile. "I’ve been waiting for someone to give me an excuse to burn that whole office. You just handed me a torch."
The meeting lasted eleven minutes. Thorn didn’t negotiate because she didn’t need to. The Delver’s Consortium wanted the same thing Alvian wanted. The alignment was natural.
[DING!]
[Diplomatic engagement: Delver’s Consortium]
[Duration: 11 minutes]
[Outcome: Agreement reached]
[Terms: Warrens access, Undercity sovereignty, Tribunal support]
[Assessment: Thorn is genuine. Her hostility toward the Magistrate system is personal and professional.]

**Day Two: The Academy Courtyard**
The Academy’s courtyard had been partially rebuilt since the Calamity Rift. The training dome was gone, replaced by a flat expanse of new concrete. Students crossed the space between classes, their paths carefully avoiding the cracks where dimensional energy still pulsed faintly.
Serah sat on a bench near the medical wing. She had papers spread across her lap, circuitry diagrams that looked like research but were actually the healing array’s technical specifications, prepared for the conversation she was about to have.
Master Artificer Corrin Vex found her at 2 PM. He was young for a Guild leader. Thirty-two. Level 52. B-Rank Circuitry Talent. He sat on the bench beside her without invitation, his own pad already open, comparing her visible diagrams to his own notes.
"Your circuitry work on the array’s conductive channels is exceptional," he said. "The molecular alignment technique. Where did you learn it?"
"Independent research."
"Bullshit." He said it pleasantly. "That alignment pattern is pre-Cataclysm. I’ve studied the Golden Age texts for fifteen years. Nobody reproduces that technique without source material."
Serah didn’t flinch. "My partner has access to sources that aren’t publicly available."
"The healing array’s construction methods. Molecular Forge, you called it. Can the technique be taught? Can we build our own arrays?"
’He doesn’t care about politics. He doesn’t care about the Crown or the bounty or the tribunal. He wants the technology. He wants to understand how it works. He wants to build it himself.’
’That’s dangerous. If the Artificer’s Circle can reproduce the array without us, our leverage disappears.’
Serah delivered the careful answer. "The technique requires specific Talent resonance. The molecular manipulation involved can’t be performed without a dissolution-type Talent of sufficient rank. But the arrays themselves can be reproduced if the creator provides the central focus crystals."
Vex’s eyes narrowed. He was smart enough to hear the implication. "You’re offering the infrastructure but not the heart."
"We’re offering partnership, not independence. The central focus crystals are the bottleneck. They require my partner’s direct involvement to manufacture. Without them, the arrays are just pretty architecture."
"Controlled technology transfer."
"Yes."
Vex was quiet for a long time. Through the communication crystal, Alvian watched him think. The man’s mind was visible in his fingers, which tapped against his pad in patterns that matched the circuitry diagrams he was studying. He was running calculations. Comparing what he would gain against what he would give up.
"I’ll take the deal," Vex said finally. "But I want something extra. Full technical documentation of the molecular alignment techniques. Not for reproduction. For understanding. My Guild has been studying pre-Cataclysm circuitry for a century. Your partner just leapfrogged us by three hundred years. I want to know how."
Serah looked at the communication crystal hidden in her hair. Alvian spoke through a tiny earpiece she wore. "Agree. The documentation costs us nothing. His understanding doesn’t give him the ability to replicate it without dissolution resonance."
"Full documentation," Serah repeated. "And in exchange?"
"The Artificer’s Circle provides magitech infrastructure support for any healing arrays your partner builds. Maintenance. Power systems. Integration with existing Guild networks. We have the technical capacity to make the arrays better. Your partner has the capacity to make them possible. That’s synergy."
