Chapter 104: The First Leaf
"You just created life from raw materials," she said. Her voice was barely a whisper. "That’s not medicine. That’s not even biology. That’s..." She stopped. Started again. "That’s genesis."
Tobias had risen from his position by the door. The old scavenger walked over with the careful steps of a man approaching something that shouldn’t exist. He picked up the leaf from Alvian’s palm and turned it over in his mechanical fingers.
"The delvers used to tell stories," Tobias said. His voice was rough. "About the Golden Age. How the old civilization could grow cities from seeds. How they could make living things from nothing. I always thought it was a myth. A fairy tale to make us feel better about living in the ruins."
He looked at the leaf. Then at Alvian.
"It wasn’t a myth, was it?"
Alvian didn’t answer. He was already running scenarios. The implications of Genesis Forge went far beyond healing.
If he could create a leaf, he could create an organ. A heart. A lung. A limb.
The former Royal Guard whose arm had been phased. Alvian had given him a clean amputation point for a conventional prosthetic. With Genesis Forge, he could regrow the arm entirely. Not a prosthetic. Not a replacement. A living arm, grown from base molecules, with functional Essence pathways and genetic integrity matching the host.
The boy whose lungs had been phased for two years. With Genesis Forge, he could create entirely new lungs. Not reformed from damaged tissue. Created fresh. Perfect. Whole.
"Serah," he said. "I need you to document something."
She was still staring at the leaf. "What?"
"The healing array needs to be upgraded. Molecular Forge could only reformation existing tissue. Genesis Forge can create new tissue. If I rebuild the central focus with Genesis Forge principles, the array won’t just heal. It’ll regenerate."
"Regenerate."
"From nothing. The array will be able to create replacement organs, rebuild severed limbs, reverse any damage as long as the body’s template exists in dimensional memory."
Serah sat down on the floor. She didn’t choose to sit. Her legs simply stopped working.
"Do you understand what you’re saying?" she asked. "You’re talking about ending permanent disability. Ending the concept of untreatable injury. You’re talking about medicine that doesn’t exist anywhere in the world."
"I know."
"The Crown will..."
"The Crown can’t touch me. The Guilds are already fracturing. And I have two hundred patients in a queue who will burn the palace to the ground if anyone tries to stop the healing."
’The power isn’t the System. The power isn’t the Skills. The power is the people who need what I can make. The Crown fears what I can dissolve. But the people need what I can create. And the people outnumber the Crown.’
"The array upgrade can wait," Alvian said. "The queue can’t. Send in the first patient."
Serah stood. She was shaking slightly. She picked up her pad with hands that weren’t entirely steady and walked toward the entrance.
"First patient," she called out. "Dimensional scarring, left arm."
She paused at the threshold and looked back. "Alvian."
"Yeah."
"The leaf is still photosynthesizing."
He looked at the leaf, still sitting on the floor where Tobias had placed it. Green and alive and impossible. A small piece of genesis, sitting in the ruins of a medical wing, quietly turning light into life.
"Let it," he said.
The first patient walked in. A woman with a scarred arm and hopeful eyes. The array hummed. The pylons cascaded. The central focus blazed.
And the leaf on the floor kept growing.

The woman with the scarred arm walked out whole.
Not reformed. Not patched. The dissolution had broken down the dimensional scar tissue, and the reformation had rebuilt her arm according to her body’s original template. But Genesis Forge had done something the old Molecular Forge couldn’t. It had created new tissue where the old tissue had been completely destroyed. Not reformed from existing cells. Created from base molecules.
The difference was invisible to the patient. She flexed her fingers, cried, thanked him, and left.
But Serah saw it on her pad. "Your Essence expenditure dropped by forty percent compared to yesterday’s similar cases. The Genesis Forge is more efficient."
"More than efficient." Alvian flexed his hands. The new pathways from the evolution were settling in, becoming part of his baseline. "The old Forge had to work with what existed. Break it down, build it back. Genesis Forge skips the breaking down part for missing tissue. It just creates."
"That’s not efficiency. That’s a paradigm shift."
’Yeah. It is.’
The queue continued. Patient after patient. The rhythm was the same but the results were different. Faster healings. Cleaner outcomes. Cases that would have taken five minutes yesterday took two minutes today. Cases that would have been impossible yesterday became possible today.
Patient twelve was a girl with a crystallized eye. The dimensional corruption had turned her left eye into a grey, glassy stone that couldn’t see light or color or anything at all. Standard healing could dissolve the crystal, but the eye beneath was destroyed. There was nothing to reform.
Alvian placed his hand over her eye. Genesis Forge activated. He didn’t dissolve the crystal first. He dissolved the crystal AND created new ocular tissue simultaneously, using the girl’s DNA as a template for the cellular structure and her right eye as a reference for the organ’s shape.
The Creation Wheel spun.

The girl opened her new eye. She blinked. Then she screamed.
"Everything is so GREEN," she shouted, and then she was laughing and crying and her mother was holding her and the healing chamber was full of noise for the first time in days.
Tobias appeared at the door. "The guard came back. The one with the amputated arm. Says he heard you can do more now."
"Send him in."
The former Royal Guard walked in with the careful posture of a man who had learned to expect disappointment. His right arm ended in a clean stump where Alvian had dissolved the dimensionally displaced tissue two days ago. The stump was healed. Functional. Ready for a conventional prosthetic.
"You said you could give me a clean point for a prosthetic," the guard said. "I’ve been thinking about that. The Guild artificers can make me a mechanical arm. Something with gears and Essence conduits. It would work. Not great. But it would work."
"That’s still an option."
"But can you do better?"
Alvian studied the stump. The man’s original arm had been phased into another dimension and lost. There was nothing to reform. The template existed in his DNA, but the tissue itself was gone. Destroyed. Existing in a dimension that Alvian couldn’t reach.
Molecular Forge couldn’t have done this. It could only reformation existing tissue. But Genesis Forge could create.
"I can regrow your arm."
The guard stared at him. "What?"
"Regrow it. From base molecules. Using your DNA as a template. It would take about ten minutes. It would be your arm. Living tissue. Functional Essence pathways. Everything."
The guard sat down heavily on the healing platform. His face went through several expressions too fast to track. "You’re not joking."
"I don’t joke about medical procedures."
"How much does it cost?"
’Credits? He thinks this is about credits. The man has been living without an arm for three years and he’s worried about the price.’
"Nothing. Lie down."
The guard lay down. Serah positioned herself with her pad, scanning the stump, mapping the Essence pathways that ended at the amputation point. Tobias stood by the door, his mechanical arm humming.
Alvian placed both hands on the stump. Genesis Forge activated at full intensity. His awareness plunged into the molecular structure of the man’s arm, reading the DNA, the cellular memory, the dimensional template stored in every cell. The body remembered what the arm should look like. The bones. The muscles. The nerves. The Essence pathways that carried Talent energy from the core to the extremities.
He didn’t have materials. He needed carbon, calcium, iron, trace elements. The array’s dimensional crystal substrate had absorbed ambient Essence for centuries, and Essence could be converted into base matter through the Genesis Forge. It was expensive in energy terms. Very expensive.
His Essence reserves dropped sharply. 287. 220. 180. 140.
"Essence dropping fast," Serah called out. "You’re at 140."
"I know."
