Immortality Starts With Selling Pills
Chapter 128: Sharing Bed
Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Sharing Bed
Keira gave him a faint smile and waved her hand dismissively.
"You’re overthinking it, Derrick," she said. "Everything is under control."
Derrick opened his mouth to reason with her, pointing out how insane it was to gamble with her life like this.
But taking one look at the stubborn set of her jaw, he stopped. He knew that look—she wasn’t going to budge.
He let out a short sigh and changed tactics.
"Do you think it’s Julian?" Derrick asked directly.
Keira didn’t deny it.
She stared down at her hands, her eyes turning dark.
"He’s definitely capable of something like this," she admitted quietly.
"But you’re not completely sure yet," Derrick added.
"No," Keira replied, looking back up at him with a cold focus. "Not until the person behind it all finally reveals themselves."
"Let me help you," Derrick said without hesitation.
Keira stiffened for a brief second.
Without saying a word, she picked up the white bandages and began wrapping them back around her wrist with practiced, professional ease.
"You can help me by joining the Guild Academy," she said, pinning the cloth in place.
Derrick’s brow furrowed. "Why the Academy?"
He didn’t see the point. He felt there was very little he could actually learn in a classroom, and going there sounded like a complete waste of his time.
"I can teach you how to fight," Keira said, looking up at him.
"I can drill raw battle instincts into you until your body moves on pure reflex."
"But if you want to learn real energy control—how to manipulate and shape your Enchained energy—I’m not the best person to teach you that."
She paused, resting her hands over the fresh bandaging.
"I don’t have natural talent when it comes to energy control," she admitted cleanly. "I only got better at it by fighting through endless life-or-death battles."
"You shouldn’t rely on my brute-force method. You need to build a proper foundation and find your own way."
Keira noticed the hesitant look on Derrick’s face.
"Ever since what happened with my grandfather," she said, her voice dropping lower, "I’ve been quietly investigating the cult that alchemist belonged to."
Derrick’s brows furrowed. "I thought your father was taking care of that?"
"The alchemist is dead," Keira said, her gaze darkening.
"They claimed it was suicide."
Derrick looked at her closely.
"You don’t believe that?" he asked.
"Not one bit. Even though he was in the middle of the most secure chambers of the Chen family and bound by restrains, committed suicide? That’s farfetched." Keira spoke in disdain.
"No, I think someone from inside the Chen Family got to him and silenced the man before he could speak and father is trying to cover it up so the name of the Chen Family is not tarnished."
"That’s why I got involved in the guild’s investigations into the cult myself."
"I feel like I’m getting close to the truth... and someone wants to silence me before I reach it."
She leaned back slightly against her pillows.
"During my last raid, I found hints of what they’re actually planning," she said. "I haven’t told a single person about it yet."
Derrick leaned in. "What plans?"
"The cult plans to embed The Children of the Fallen One into the very core of the federation.," Keira revealed, her eyes darkening.
"They’re planning to infiltrate all the academies."
"They want to spread their brainwashing inside the schools and turn students into their new followers."
"I think they blan to hollow the federation from inside out and take over it once they are done."
She looked straight at Derrick.
"That’s why I need you to go to the Guild Academy."
"You can watch for them on the inside, while I check on the other places."
Derrick thought about her words for a few moments.
He looked at Keira and gave a firm nod.
"Alright," Derrick said. "What’s the plan?"
Keira rested her hands in her lap.
"In one month, you’ll enter the Golden Dawn Academy," she said.
"You don’t need to worry about the test or paperwork. I’ll use my influence to handle your admission directly."
She looked him in the eyes, her expression sharp.
"Once you’re inside, your job is simple," she continued.
"Just perform well. Show off your talent."
"If you stand out enough, the cultists hiding in the school will naturally take notice."
"They’ll either try to approach you and recruit you to their side, or they’ll try to silence you because you’re too much of a threat."
Keira gave him a small, confident look.
"With your current strength, you’ll easily be the strongest in your class."
"Most of the students there have barely reached the middle stage of the Physical Strengthening Realm."
Derrick raised an eyebrow.
"Who’s leading the class right now?" he asked.
Keira smirked slightly.
"Actually, you happen to know him," she said.
"It’s Kenny West."
So it’s about time we had a round two. Derrick thought to himself. He did not even realize his hands had turned into a fist and his eyes flashed with fain killing intent.
He may not have noticed it but Keira certainly did.
Her lips pursed into thin line.
"You two seem to have some history,".
She shifted over toward the side of the wide hospital bed, making plenty of space beside her.
"Want to lie down for a bit?" she asked, patting the mattress.
Derrick didn’t stand on ceremony.
He kicked off his shoes and laid down right beside her on the bed.
He reached over to the bedside table and picked up the bouquet of white lilies, handing them to her along with the fresh fruit basket.
Keira took the flowers, bringing them close to gently breathe in their scent.
She looked over at him, a soft expression in her eyes.
"How did you know I liked lilies?" she asked.
"Found traces of them in your family garden when we were talking about your mother," Derrick said softly.
Keira smiled, bringing the bouquet close to breathe in the scent once more.
The genuine warmth in her expression caught Derrick off guard—it was a rare sight for someone who usually kept her walls so high.
She carefully set the lilies down on the side table next to the bed.
Reaching for the remote, she clicked the TV on, letting the low hum of a broadcast fill the quiet room.
Then, she picked up a crisp red apple from the fruit basket Derrick had brought.
With a lightning-fast flick of her fingers, a thin flash of energy glinted in the air, instantly slicing the apple into neat, perfect wedges in a split second.
She held out a slice toward him.
"Want one?"
"Sure." Derrick replied, taking the slice from her hand. "Kenny has tried to get me killed more than once. Once time he nearly succeeded as well."
Keira silently listened as he told her about his past.
