Chapter 581: Chapter 578: The Black Land

The healers were all shocked to hear about the giant’s strange characteristics.

Most of them had been captured by the giant and thrown into the labyrinth in a state of confusion, completely unaware that the giant had such traits.

Now it seemed this terrifying giant was actually quite easy to deal with.

"If we had known about these weaknesses earlier, we wouldn’t have been caught..." one healer said dejectedly.

"It’s not that simple. These giants have different characteristics depending on their numbers. When there are more than two, they’ll help a fallen comrade up. When their numbers exceed the number of targets they’re chasing, they won’t freeze up just because the targets scatter."

"Also, when there are enough of them, they combine to form something even more terrifying..." the healer who knew about the giants said gravely.

"What kind of thing? The black walls?" another healer pressed.

"No. Have you ever wondered who built those towering black walls?"

The moment he finished speaking, the black earth suddenly began to tremble again.

"No way... Is it really coming?"

As the ground trembled, the black spheres on the ground began to bounce, and the entire space filled with the sound of their collisions.

Mounds began to rise from the ground as burly giants emerged. Then, another giant would grow from the body of the first, these terrifying aggregates of black spheres forcibly bonding together.

The healers quickly retreated, but the black spheres grew too fast. Before they could get far, the giants had already melded together into a black lizard that blotted out the sky.

The black lizard’s shadow fell over all the healers. Realizing they could no longer escape, they could only stop and watch as the lizard grew larger and larger, until it obscured the entire pure white sky.

"What in the world is that thing?" a healer exclaimed.

"The Wall Builder. The black walls on the Central Island were made by it..."

Before he could finish, the black spheres at the lizard’s throat bulged, and a huge section of black wall shot out of its mouth, plunging straight into the ground.

"BOOM!" The violent tremor sent the healers staggering and stumbling once again.

But this was only the beginning. The lizard raised its head, and with a shudder, it spat out more than ten black walls in succession. As it spat, it swung its head, carving arcs through the sky with the walls. They smashed heavily into the ground, perfectly forming a high wall dozens of meters long in the distance.

Seeing this, the healers present immediately understood how the labyrinth outside had been built.

The giant lizard seemed completely indifferent to the healers, merely continuing to create its black walls.

But the terrifying tremors and the black walls constantly falling from the sky were more than the healers could handle. Gradually, they were forced into a corner.

Meanwhile, the ground continued to squirm. Perhaps in a little while, they would be captured by the giants forming on the ground.

"Getting caught outside was one thing, but are we going to get caught again inside the Healing Space?"

The healers were utterly desperate. They had never expected to encounter such a situation after entering the sphere of light.

"Where did the Elders go? Isn’t this their Healing Space?"

"Yeah, are they hiding or something?"

In this moment of crisis, the healers began to hope for the Elders’ aid. This was their Healing Space, after all. Only by finding them could they ask what was happening and get an explanation for everything.

However, as the squirming black spheres on the ground slowly swelled, the healers realized they weren’t forming giants.

Slender bodies, thin arms... The things growing from the ground were actually the bodies of healers, made from black spheres!

"Elders! Those are the bodies of the Elders!" Xi recognized them at once.

"The black spheres mimicked the Elders’ bodies? Don’t tell me these damn things can use the Elders’ powers too?"

The words had barely left his mouth when a dense black flame suddenly coalesced on the heads of these dark figures. This black flame was also composed of black spheres; they seemed to be doing everything in their power to mimic the appearance of healers.

As soon as they were formed, these "Black Elders" raised their arms and grabbed at the nearby black wall. The moment their palms touched the wall, it began to melt, surging toward the healers like a mudslide.

’We’re finished.’

Behind them, a high wall blocked their path. In front, a mudslide rushed toward them, along with those unnatural-looking Black Elders. It seemed these black sphere aggregates were trying everything they could to kill them.

"Can we leave the space?"

"I tried. We can’t. There’s a healing target here, too. We can’t leave until the healing is complete."

"There’s a healing target here? Where?"

Watching the surging black mudslide, the healers sank into despair.

Just then, a voice suddenly came from above:

"Turn off your senses!"

Xi recognized it at once. It was his predecessor’s voice!

He looked up and, sure enough, saw his predecessor floating in mid-air.

"Quick! Do as he says! Turn off your senses!" Xi immediately shouted to his companions.

Although the healers didn’t know who this "predecessor" was, seeing Xi’s trust, they didn’t hesitate and immediately did as he said, shutting off their senses.

The healers had no heads; their various senses were simulated, so of course, they could turn them off with ease.

Instantly, darkness and silence enveloped every healer.

Fear still filled their hearts as they waited for the mudslide to arrive.

Their dim spheres of light completely retracted. All the healers present had followed Mo Ling’s instructions and completely shut off their senses.

Just as the terrifying mudslide was about to engulf the healers, something strange happened. The mudslide suddenly disintegrated as if it had lost all cohesion, falling limply to the ground.

In the distance, the Black Elders also crumbled, and the surrounding black walls melted into the black earth as if they had fallen into a pool of water.

The Wall Builder also froze before sinking back into the black earth.

In just a few moments, the entire landscape returned to its original state, as if nothing had ever happened.

Mo Ling slowly extended his perception again. Seeing that everything had returned to calm, he breathed a sigh of relief.

’It’s over.’

’Just as I thought... What these black spheres become depends on "observation".’

Mo Ling had been wrong all along. At first, he thought the black spheres changed based on their numbers. Later, he believed someone was controlling them from behind the scenes.

But after coming to this space, Mo Ling was certain. The changes in the black spheres had nothing to do with numbers or control. What they became depended solely on the "observer."

In other words, whatever the observer perceived them to be, that is what they would become...
