Chapter 558: Chapter 555: Healer Mo Ling

Hila pulled Mo Ling along, weaving through the endless light, while Mo Ling eliminated every black dot he saw. However, these black dots were not as defenseless as Mo Ling had thought.

They seemed to have no intention of waiting to be slaughtered. After noticing their companions disappearing one after another, the black dots began to gather. They swelled, forming dark, shadowy masses.

These shadows charged madly at Mo Ling and Hila, completely devouring the dazzling light and tearing open a deep fissure in the void.

"I can’t let too many of them gather..." Mo Ling grew tense.

Although it was more convenient for him to teleport them after they gathered, they converged so quickly that a moment’s carelessness could result in a mass too large for his teleportation limit. Not only that, but the shadows were also extremely agile. They constantly circled Mo Ling and would even hide behind other shadows to launch sneak attacks.

’Why are these black dots so intelligent?’

After a period of battle, the black dots even realized that Mo Ling’s teleportation had a limited range. So, they stopped gathering into a single mass. Instead, they spread out like a colossal black cloth, surging toward Mo Ling and Hila from all directions.

Faced with this overwhelming assault, Mo Ling could only tear open a temporary gap for the two of them to dodge through.

"Senior, this is the most difficult disease I’ve ever seen. It’s so tenacious."

Because the void-black dots were so scattered, Mo Ling couldn’t wipe them out in one go. The dots were also growing stronger. After a little while longer, they learned a new trick.

They divided their original forms into even smaller pieces and scattered themselves across the entire battlefield. This allowed them to cover a larger area, making it increasingly difficult for Mo Ling to clear them out.

"It’s resistance, Senior. Don’t use the same move on them. Diseases can’t be defeated by the same attack repeatedly. They’ll quickly find a way to counter it, and the same move will only become weaker and weaker," Hila reminded him nervously.

Hearing Hila’s warning, Mo Ling became very anxious. He had no other abilities besides teleportation. The black dots were fast learners and were constantly searching for his weaknesses. The effectiveness of his teleportation was steadily diminishing.

"How much of the emptiness is left?"

"It’s decreasing, but there’s still a lot. They’ve scattered now, so my perception has become fuzzy."

Mo Ling’s heart sank. He had to find a way to deal with the current situation.

"Hila, if you let go of me, can you still allow me to perceive the emptiness?"

"Yes, but not for long," Hila replied.

"That’s long enough. I need to create an opening and let these black dots gather..."

By now, the black dots had turned into a sky full of dust. They were completely dispersed, covering the entire battlefield. The brilliant light was obscured by the ever-thickening darkness.

"Let go, Hila. Go hide somewhere else for a moment."

"Senior..." Hila called out softly, but she didn’t hesitate. She immediately released Mo Ling’s hand and vanished.

The moment Hila left, Mo Ling felt his surroundings suddenly begin to blur. His perception of the emptiness dropped to its lowest point.

"Come on."

Mo Ling opened his arms and stopped using his teleportation. The overwhelming swarm of black dots instantly converged on him.

He used himself as bait, gathering all the black dots in one place.

Emptiness. Endless fear blotted out all light, dragging Mo Ling into the darkness.

A profound silence...

Mo Ling waited quietly. Although his perception was at its lowest, he could still feel the black dots continuing to converge. Soon, they would merge into a single entity.

Moreover, the density of the dots was still increasing. This emptiness was growing more and more solid, trying to trap Mo Ling completely within it.

’Not yet.’

Mo Ling didn’t act rashly, instead waiting for the darkness to condense further.

But gradually, faint sounds began to emerge from the silence.

It sounded like something... or some things... conversing in hoarse, strange voices.

And yet, Mo Ling could understand this language. It wasn’t the language of the healers, nor was it any language he had ever heard before. It sounded like tearing paper—chaotic and insane.

"Has it spread?"

"Yes, it’s a success."

"Has it spread throughout the entire Hua Sheng Islands?"

"Yes, it has been planted on every island... a disease that targets healers."

"Excellent. Their abilities are powerful, but their minds are incredibly weak. Emotions will slowly devour those fragile minds, and their powers will fall into chaos as a result."

...

"Loneliness."

"Emptiness."

"Fear."

"Regret."

...

Countless words, carried on those paper-tearing sounds, gradually spread and echoed through the surrounding darkness. Mo Ling felt as if the voices were burrowing into his body through the enveloping black dots, clinging to him like maggots on a bone.

’But it’s time for all this to end.’

The black dots, enveloping Mo Ling, continued to contract.

’Now it’s time to "close the net."’

Using his last vestiges of perception, Mo Ling targeted all the black dots surrounding him and activated his teleportation.

He himself was at the very center of the teleportation frame.

’I’ve never tried teleporting my entire body before. I wonder what will happen.’

Previously, just teleporting the Block that was his head was enough to let his whole body fly. Now that the teleportation frame covered him completely, he didn’t know what to expect.

Mo Ling had a feeling—a powerful intuition—that his teleportation wouldn’t harm him. That’s why he had been willing to use himself as bait to capture this overwhelming swarm of black dots.

The thought flashed through his mind, not even as fast as the teleportation itself.

When Mo Ling came to his senses, he had already lost his perception of the surrounding black dots.

However, his vision was still pitch black.

"What is this, mud?"

Mo Ling forcefully pushed aside the sludge in front of him. The black mud instantly crumbled and fell to the ground.

Only then did Mo Ling realize he was back inside the Block.

The black mud had made a mess of everything, covering the furniture he had "bought for free" with black stains.

Unable to process it for a moment, Mo Ling stood in the limp pile of black mud, stunned.

’The teleportation really didn’t hurt me.’

He had returned to the Block with the teleportation, completely unharmed. Mo Ling touched his face and discovered that his block-head was gone. His face was covered in sticky black mud.

"What on earth is this stuff?"

Mo Ling rubbed the black clod of mud in his hands. It had a very strange texture, as if it were made of many smooth grains of sand.

He carefully held it up to look at it for a moment and realized it wasn’t sand at all, but incredibly uniform black spheres.

Although the spheres were minuscule, he could tell that their surfaces were as smooth as if they had been machined, and their shape was extremely regular.

’Was this stuff mass-produced?’

’Who was the manufacturer?’

’Could it be the owners of those voices I heard earlier?’ℯ
