I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 437 - 434: The Limitation of a God
Chapter 437: Chapter 434: The Limitation of a God
"A god that cannot grant wishes has no reason to exist."
The god stared at the small puddle and said faintly.
"I will give you the Authority."
"Even if you give it to me, I’ll stop granting wishes immediately. I’m not a god, and I won’t perform a god’s duties," the Little Elf refused righteously.
But to the Little Elf’s surprise, the god actually nodded.
"I know. But that is your choice."
Suddenly, it stood up. Golden light scattered as countless rays connected to the Little Elf.
The Little Elf panicked. "Don’t give it to me!"
However, it was too late. The golden threads pierced swiftly into the Little Elf’s body, and the golden light surrounding the god began to dim.
Mo Ling saw what was happening and quickly stepped between them, but the golden threads passed right through him.
’This is bad!’
By the time he tried to use teleportation to sever the threads, they had already vanished completely.
"Goodbye."
With that one word of farewell, the god abruptly flew upward and disappeared.
Mo Ling quickly turned to look at the Little Elf.
"Are you okay?" he asked anxiously.
But the Little Elf didn’t answer. It just turned its head to look at the small puddle on the ground.
"I know why it couldn’t do it anymore," the Little Elf said, its voice heavy as it stared intently at the puddle.
"Being a god isn’t just about power. It’s also a restraint..."
"What do you mean?" Mo Ling asked anxiously.
"The emergence of a god is based on the wishes of living beings. In essence, a god is a collection of those wishes, just like it said..."
"A god that cannot grant wishes has no reason to exist."
"When the Sea of Creation can no longer grant wishes, the god will disappear too..."
Hearing the Little Elf’s words, Mo Ling instantly understood everything.
"So it made you a god just to have you take its place and die?"
"No. As long as I continue to grant wishes, I won’t die," the Little Elf said gravely. "But the Sea of Creation’s death spiral will fall upon me. I have to find a way to solve it..."
At this, the Little Elf fell silent.
Its gaze seemed locked on the small puddle.
"If it just wanted a scapegoat, why didn’t it pick someone at random? Why you, specifically?" Mo Ling asked, confused.
"I don’t know." The Little Elf thought for a moment but couldn’t come up with an answer.
And so, atop the stone, only the anxious Mo Ling and the Little Elf, unable to look away, remained.
"Don’t worry. I can transfer the divine Authority at any time."
The Little Elf waved its hand, and a blue Olive rippling with water appeared before it.
Within the ripples, its "mechanical" brethren were displayed.
"I can transfer the Authority to them."
Immediately after, the image in the ripples changed again, beginning to display all the living beings within the Sea of Creation.
"I can also transfer the Authority to these beings."
But that wasn’t all. The Little Elf waved its hand again, and Li Luo appeared on the ripples, riding a Lego Bird.
Li Luo and Fatty seemed to have accidentally entered another Divine Sacrifice Site and were anxiously searching for an exit.
"What was the point of it doing this? I can just toss the Authority away again..." The Little Elf was also confused.
"Then hurry up and throw it away."
Mo Ling no longer thought the divine Authority was anything good. It was a bomb that could detonate at any moment; no one knew what would happen if they kept holding onto it.
"Can you find it? Where did it go to hide? Can you give the Authority back to it?" Mo Ling pressed.
"No. It’s hiding too well. The structure of the Sea of Creation is too complex. It’ll take some time to find it."
The image on the blue Olive kept changing, jumping away from Li Luo’s location to show other creatures currently in the Sea of Creation.
Even the wandering glass creatures were among them.
"Are you looking for it?"
"More than that. I think I have a rough idea of why it chose me..." the Little Elf said, pointing at the Olive.
"After gaining the Authority, it seems I can see the ’divinity compatibility’ of different beings. For example, these glass creatures aren’t suitable to be gods. My dim-witted brethren, despite their low intelligence, have very high compatibility. Most beings in the Sea of Creation fall somewhere within this range."
The blue Olive even showed Slaughter and Balloon, who were still fighting. They had battled their way to another Divine Sacrifice Site, leaving it in ruins, its mirrored surfaces shattered and on the verge of collapse.
After continuously changing, the scene on the blue Olive finally froze.
The image was of Mo Ling and the Little Elf on the stone.
"My compatibility is the highest, which is why it made me a god."
"But you..."
The Little Elf’s tone suddenly became puzzled.
"Why are you... empty?"
"Empty? What do you mean?" Mo Ling asked in confusion.
The Little Elf organized its thoughts before explaining, "This stone we’re on has a compatibility rating, too, although it’s terrifyingly low. Everything in this world has the potential to become a god. But you don’t. You’re empty."
"So you mean I can’t become a god?"
"No, it’s... unknown," the Little Elf explained. "It’s like a spreadsheet cell that’s supposed to have data, but it’s completely blank. It isn’t any number, not even zero. It’s just... empty."
"I might not be explaining it well, but that’s what it feels like to me."
Mo Ling was completely baffled by the Little Elf’s explanation, but now was not the time to dwell on it.
"Just hurry up and transfer the Authority," Mo Ling urged, worried that something unexpected would happen if they delayed any longer.
"Don’t be hasty. I have an idea. Come here and sit down with me," the Little Elf said calmly.
Mo Ling froze for a moment, then walked toward the Little Elf, half-believing and half-doubting.
"You’d better not be planning to dump the Authority on me."
"How could I possibly do something like that!"
"..."
After Mo Ling reached the Little Elf’s side, it indeed made no sudden moves.
"A little closer..."
"Closer still..."
Heeding the Little Elf’s words, Mo Ling shuffled over bit by bit and sat down beside it.
"Still not close enough. Sit *inside* me. I’m made of light; I don’t have a physical body."
"Oh, I get it."
And just like that, Mo Ling’s body merged with the Little Elf’s.
The Little Elf’s body had been created in Mo Ling’s image. Their height and build were identical, right down to the very same Block-head.
"Adjust a bit more. Look at the puddle in front of us. I can’t turn my head..."
Following the Little Elf’s directions, Mo Ling shifted his position and adjusted his posture, slowly beginning to merge with the golden light.
Finally, after tireless effort, Mo Ling’s body completely overlapped with the illusory golden light.
Now, his body was covered in a faint, shimmering light. With the slightest tremble, golden radiance would spill out, making him look like a gilded statue.
The instant he merged with the Little Elf, Mo Ling suddenly felt something come over him. In a flash, his consciousness expanded, and his vision became immeasurably vast.
Before him was no longer a small puddle, but a boundless ocean. In one part of this ocean, the surface was covered with mirrors, reflecting a dazzling light.
"This is... the Sea of Creation!"
Mo Ling was actually seeing the Sea of Creation in the small puddle.
In an instant, he also saw the creatures in the Sea of Creation. He saw Li Luo and Fatty, he saw Slaughter and Balloon locked in their great battle...
At the same time, the Little Elf’s excited voice echoed from within his body:
"Now, you’re a god, too!"
