I'm Trapped in the Block
Chapter 369 - 366: Sever the Future
Chapter 369: Chapter 366: Sever the Future
A gentle, unseen breeze stirred the feathers, for this sea had its own tides.
A nearly imperceptible thread connected heaven and earth, standing like a Stabilizing Needle in the midst of the Feather Sea.
The moment he saw this thin thread, Mo Ling knew what he had to do:
’Cut it.’
He just didn’t know if his teleportation ability would work against this "uncuttable" thread.
Mo Ling looked at the machine. "So, as long as I cut this thread, Paradise Island will be destroyed?"
"Yes."
"Will the humans on the island, or we in the hub, be harmed in any way?" ℴ
"No. The surface of Paradise Island and the hub are at the very top and very bottom of the ’spring,’ respectively. They will not be affected when the spring is released," the machine said with certainty.
As if worried Mo Ling wasn’t convinced, it showed another projection:
A compressed, layered pastry suddenly expanded and shattered. All the structures in the middle turned to dust, but the top and bottom layers were completely unaffected, remaining perfectly calm.
Although it was just a simulation, Mo Ling felt much more at ease.
Mo Ling gripped the thread again.
It was slippery. If the machine hadn’t told him, he never would have known it actually came from a living creature.
A hub made of feathers.
A cord made of Dragon Sinew.
A dome of glowing white stones forged from life itself...
Mo Ling had no idea what else had been used.
’Is this what Paradise is?’
A sudden sense of irony struck Mo Ling:
Innocent creatures named Hell Beasts were trapped on the island, imprisoned for countless ages. And yet, the beautiful Paradise Island was nothing more than a pristine white cage, built from the corpses of living beings.
’Was it really worth it, trading all this for a brief peace?’
A simple "public enemy" and the sacrifice of a few weak races, all to obtain peace. It sounded like a great deal.
’But was the cost really that simple?’
Mo Ling’s hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
"What’s wrong?" the machine asked with concern, noticing something was off with Mo Ling.
"It’s nothing."
Mo Ling shook his head, pushing the anxiety to the back of his mind, and looked at the thin thread before him again.
’I hope this works.’
Aiming his teleportation frame at a small section of the thread, Mo Ling carefully activated the teleport.
The instant he activated the teleport, the entire thread suddenly vanished.
’Where did it go?’
He quickly looked inside the Block and saw a severed section of the thread lying quietly on the metal floor.
"The energy released when it snapped was too great. The rest of it flew off instantly," the machine explained to Mo Ling.
Hearing this, Mo Ling let out a sigh of relief. He had thought the thread had some special ability to teleport.
However, even though he had severed the thread connecting heaven and earth, he didn’t feel any change.
The gentle breeze still stirred the Feather Sea. Soft feathers drifted about, and everything around them was still calm.
But the machine was now looking at the dome, muttering softly:
"It worked. Another brand new future."
It seemed to have seen something again.
This time, however, the machine wasn’t as surprised. It looked down at Mo Ling.
"I knew you could do it..."
"I just cut a thread, that’s all." Mo Ling didn’t think it was anything to be proud of.
"I just happened to be here, and I just happened to have the ability to cut it. There are so many relics in the Abyss; probably any one of them could have done the job."
Hearing Mo Ling’s humble words, the machine shook its head.
"It’s not like that."
It ejected a spare electrical wire from its mechanical arm and formed it into a circle.
"You must complete a circuit for a current to flow. If you can’t even form the circuit, then it’s all just empty talk."
"What do you mean?" Mo Ling asked, confused, looking at the wire in the machine’s hand.
The machine held the wire and pointed to the spot where its two ends met.
"You just happened to be here."
As soon as it said this, Mo Ling instantly understood the machine’s meaning. He shook his head and said helplessly:
"The world isn’t an electrical wire."
Hearing Mo Ling’s words, the machine froze in place. It held the wire, seemingly pondering something. After a short while, it spoke to Mo Ling with a serious tone:
"The world might really be no different from an electrical wire."
"Why?" Although he couldn’t comprehend the machine’s logic, Mo Ling was very curious about such a viewpoint.
"Because the path is fixed. The way the electrons move, how they are distributed—it’s all determined in advance, just like the future. There are no mistakes."
"The events scattered everywhere are like resistors, each with a different value. We aren’t really the ones experiencing these things; it’s just the electrons reaching that particular point on the path."
The machine stared at the wire in its hand, somewhat lost in thought.
"I’ve said the same thing to Si Yang. I believe everything is preordained. We are just the ones experiencing it, just like..."
"Like we’re in a novel, right?" Mo Ling cut the machine off.
The machine looked at Mo Ling in surprise and nodded.
"Yes, like a novel."
Mo Ling waved his hand dismissively.
"A friend of mine has the same idea as you, but I don’t think it’s very likely."
"Why?" the machine pressed.
"Because think about it: what kind of novel would feature a guy with a block for a head and a black intelligent robot, discussing whether the world is a novel while standing in a sea of feathers?"
Mo Ling asked this question with the utmost seriousness.
If this world really were a novel, content like this would be far too absurd.
While the machine was still pondering this possibility, Mo Ling patted its mechanical arm, interrupting its thoughts.
"Stop thinking about it. There’s no point in thinking about these things anyway."
Hearing this, the machine also nodded.
"I do have a tendency to get lost in pointless thoughts."
Although it was a perfect machine, perfection meant more comprehensive and concrete thought, which often led the machine into endless mental knots.
Seeing that the machine had finally stopped thinking about such things, Mo Ling nodded in relief.
He used to fall into similar deep thoughts because of what Martin had said.
But after experiencing so many strange and bizarre things in the Abyss, Mo Ling had long since given up on pondering such things.
The matters at hand were what was most important.
"How are we supposed to get out? And what about Li Luo?" Mo Ling asked.
Right now, that was the most important thing to consider.
"Don’t worry. Si Yang will be here to rescue us soon."
As soon as the words were spoken, two figures appeared in the distance.
Mo Ling focused his gaze and saw Si Yang bringing Li Luo toward them at high speed, riding in a small white boat.
The small boat cut a soft wave through the sea of feathers, rising and falling with the swells.
Aboard the boat, Li Luo saw Mo Ling from afar and broke into a joyful expression.
